“ i wish that was my decision to make , ” if it was up to clary , helen and aline would be allowed to live at the institute with no harm no foul . but the clave , they were strict , it was a surprise that they still allowed her to be part of the new york institute after everything . “ it is far from fair what’s been done to her . ”

“ i think we are going to need to get as much sleep as we can . ” her comment gentle as she smiled towards the male , there were so many thoughts going through her head when it came to jace . some kind and some not so kind . she was happy to have a returned smile , a gesture that meant a lot to the once mundane teenager . jace was someone she never had walked in on asleep over books and files , he usually was awake at all hours , but obviously homework wasn’t a big thing for shadowhunters . clary couldn’t help but softly chuckle into her coffee mug as she continued to sip at the hot liquid , thankful to be warmed by something . the chill throughout the institute was one thing she hadn’t gotten used too just yet . “ i’m sure a good few cracks and you’ll be alright jace , ” she shook her head , setting down the coffee mug and leaning over the desk herself , eyes scanning the pages beyond pages of notes and information . “ no one’s gotten any further . maybe we are beating a dead horse ? ”

they weren’t a pair that typically hung out together , or even really spoke to one another by themselves . part of clary was glad that she had enough strength in herself to talk to alec , but the other part of her was terrified with how he’d react to her claims of wanting to be normal but also sucking it up and being who she was . a shadowhunter . wanting to save her mom and the people she cared about . “ the clave thinks that i am like my father , a man i’ve never met and have no intention of being associated with . how can i trust a clave that won’t even give me a chance ? guilty until proven innocent . that’s how i feel . i didn’t even know what a mortal cup was yet everyone believed i knew where it was , what it was even . forgive me for not wanting to trust them so wholeheartedly . ”

" i never thought i’d run an institute , ” she sat down with the younger girl with a smile , “ you never know what you’re going to be until you get there . livia , you’re so strong , you can be anything you want to be , as long as you put your mind to it . ”

" so if i understand this correctly , you continuously blocked my mind as i grew up ? i saw you every year yet i have no memory of ever seeing you , ” clary was trying to put all the pieces together , it wasn’t easy that was for sure . “ you’ve known me my whole life but this is the first time i’m really meeting you . sorry , this is all just super weird for me . ”

" sometimes we just need your help , not the attitude that can come along with it , ” she’d become accustomed to talking to downworlders , for standing her ground . but clary knew that she had to go about things the right way . not the mean way . “ will you help us in this fight ? ”

there was nothing but a soft smile on clary’s face , “ of course emma is welcome , ” during the dark war , there was a growing connection blooming between the carstairs daughter and the fairchild . the pair of them so similar yet so different in so many ways . they had found a bond and clary intended on keeping it . “ anyone you consider family livia is welcome under our institute’s roof . ” shadowhunters and downworlders alike were welcome as far as clary knew . as long as they were on their side like magnus was and the way simon was while he was a vampire . “ oh , well , i wish i could help more . ”

she wanted to groan at the second that he opened his mouth . jace was someone who could just get under clary’s skin without her realising until he had dug too deep . sighing she gingerly stepped closer , knowing that the downworlder was no more but still scared another could jump out of the shadows at any given moment . that was why they were what they were right ? shadowhunters . hunting things that stayed hidden in the shadows of the world . she was trying to embrace her new status , but the teen just wanted to be with her charcoals and canvas . the world of art was her safety net , not the glowing seraph blade that was in her hand . one day it would feel like second nature for the weight in her palm , but for now , now it just felt odd . off putting . “ how can i expect their movements jace ? maybe i’m not cut out for this . ”

it was a blessing to see all the children so close after so much pain . how they were the tightest knit group since clary met the lightwood siblings . the blackthorns were close , clary had already taken to liking julian after the amount of time emma was talking about him to her in private . “ that’s all we want , for you and your siblings to be happy and to feel safe . if you ever visit , do let us know so we can give you the best of the accommodation the new york institute has to offer . is there anything i can do for you while i’m still here ? ”

sometimes clary didn’t particularly enjoy hunting . the lightwood siblings had left her to her own devices , jace being the only person willing enough to take her out and show her the ropes . to help her explore the life she was supposed to have grown up in . things came easy to clary , she could swirl a seraph blade around , drawing runes became easier each time she did it , becoming more accustomed to the burn of angelic power on her skin . but the actual killing of demons , well that wasn’t what she was used to . she observed as jace handled it , yelling pointers at her whilst he took care of it . watching it evaporate into thin air as he sliced through the creature with his alight seraph blade . “ one day it will become easier for me , right ? ”
