Retablos

We came out from the 8 o’clock mass and were walking with my daughter Eulalia down the street. Suddenly a horrible, hairy, stinking man with a tremendously giant knife jumped out before us. But how great was my surprise that it was Ruperto, my husband who ran away with Chola many years ago. But he was doing very badly, and now he was dying from hunger. The masters forgave him and he has come back to the estate.

Frida comes to Brooklyn!!! I thank the Virgin of Guadalupe very much for the current exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum called “Frida Kahlo: Appearances can be deceiving.” Her clothes and personal belongings illustrate her personality which was the focus of her art. I didn’t visit her Blue House during my staying in Mexico City but now it’s been recreated in Brooklyn, just in few steps from where I live.

I eternally thank Divine Luis Mariano, a strict hoarder from Franklin district, who every week surprises with some treasures at his place at the Pedro Lagos fair. Blessed with the gift of word, he knows what to sell and how; an absolute master of the language of the streets, a gentleman with ladies and a rabid dog with those who cross him. Thanks, Divine Luis Mariano, for selling me a voice recorder that inspired me and that I used as musical instrument to make my first disc which Luis Mariano participated in, with his voice while playing bowling.

Nayeli thanks the Holy Lord of Chalma for letting her to present, with great success, her act of juggling on her horse and for the opportunity given by the circus. She expresses her gratitude.

When I came to work to the Orozcos’ house, I had a lot of troubles with Rosa who was the former cook. She got very jealous because my dishes tasted better than hers. Then she started to spoil my food. I thank Saint Paschal Baylon because my masters noticed it and scolded her before committing an injustice to me. Finally, I was left in peace.

Castulo Rodriguez was walking to the field, and a flying saucer appeared, with two extraterrestrials who were going to tie me like a pig. But I implored you, and you delivered me.

Lucio and Pedro dedicate this retablo to the Virgin of Guadalupe because Raul didn’t found out that we cheated on him after coming back from the gym. I’m very sorry and ask forgiveness for such a dirty trick, and I promise to make him happy.

Cirilo Cañete was in a bar when he felt a terrible aching pain in his stomach. It felt so bad he even cried. He gives infinite thanks to Saint Jude because he got cured after he went to poo.

Thanks, Holy Virgin, for all your favours, especially for letting my dear friend Filemon Ramos and me stay in the living world. We let ourselves loose with very hot and sexy chicks.

With fortitude, I survived a peritonitis that almost took my life and I survived in an ICE detention centre where I lived in the last years. I was seeing dehumanisation of people for more than 19 months. ICE is a system created and used to psychologically torture human beings who fall into their claws. I thank God for sending me health and freedom.

I had a fall and injured my leg. I was very sad thinking that maybe I could never join my dance group again. I prayed Saint Jude Thaddeus for my recovery, and he made me a miracle of curing me. Now I can dance son jarocho again which I’m so much passionate about. May you be blessed.
