Fortuneâs Fate (Betrayal!Era; Starter for itfeltlikeflynn)
Click! âIf I could turn back ti-ime!â Sang Alanâs clock radio. âIf I could find a wayâŚâ The man groaned and turned over as he pulled the pillow over his head. âIâd take back those words thatâve hurt you, and youâd stay,â the clock dutifully continued. Turning over, Alan slowly uncovered his head and switched off the alarm. He sighed, staring at the clock for a while. There was a time when he wasnât so tired in the morning. In those days, he was an early bird, getting up and catching the worm before most people had even warmed their first cup of coffee. Those, however, were his pre-Flynn days.
In the beginning of his friendship with Flynn, Alan managed to get up early on most days. However, it had become increasingly difficult, especially the more he became acquainted with ENCOMâs C.E.O. Not that Alan minded anymore. Not really. He missed the quiet of the early morning, but heâd long-since traded it for the boisterous, yet rewarding, relationship he had with his friend. Flynn hadnât always been easy to get along with, but Alan had come to appreciate him. Now, he couldnât imagine a day without the influence of his charismatic boss. The man was always working on something. Many things, actually.
In fact, a couple of nights ago, heâd come to Alan, practically dancing with delight. In fact, he was so excited that Alan had to calm him down before Alan could even understand what he was trying to say.
*
âWoah, slow down Flynn, my ears arenât quite that fast!â Alan commented, hoping that his friend would take the time to at least somewhat collect his thoughts. Alan knew better than to expect fully organized ideas from Flynn, but his communication attempts tonight were exceptionally chaotic.
âIâm sorry, man! I just canât believe it...Iâve cracked it. Iâve cracked it. I mean, all of it. Well, not me. It happened. It just happened. It happened and Iâve been trying to understand it, and finally cracked it. Everything we thought we knew. Itâs all wrong, man. Itâs all so far behind...â Flynn raked his fingers through his hair, pacing around Alanâs living room. He couldnât sit down. He couldnât sit still. He could hardly stop talking long enough to take a breath, even though what was coming out his mouth didnât make much sense, âbehind this. These algorithms. Theyâre something else, something else entirely.â âReligion? Nailed it. Science? Bogus, weâre primitives. Medicine? Genetics research? Obsolete. All our so-called progress and itâs been blown away. I canât wait to get this out there. Weâll be moving and shaking, man! Figuratively, yes, but also literally!â he gasped for breath, âI canât wait. I just canât wait. This is gonna take us into a whole new era. A digital revolution. Who needs fossil fuels when you can walk from one planet to the next?â If anything, his speech had become even more wild and generic, even less organized, than the babble that he had first inundated Bradley with, but he couldnât help it.
A smiling Alan pushes past the door and embraces you with a generous bear hug.
A surprised Flynn turns around and tackles the Alan with a laugh and an equally big hug, âHey, man!â

Reblog if your muse kinda sorta needs a hug
"Flynn? You said you wanted to see me?"
âHey man! Yeah, come on in.â
itfeltlikeflynn
âWhat am I doing?â Flynn grinned and rocked the chair slightly, squeaking it, knowing it would probably irritate his straight-laced conversation partner.
âWell, that is the question, isnât it?â he tilted his head slightly, thinking. It would be very complicated to explain. âYou know what, it would be easier just to show you. Why not stop by the old place after work? You can bring Tron, maybe get in a few rounds on the new machines.â He grinned, âand Iâll show you what Iâve been working on. Itâs just in the beginning stages, but I think youâll love it!â
Alan tried to ignore the squeaky chair and focus solely on the conversation. He also tried to resist the urge to roll his eyes. Alan wasnât the video game type and heâd taken many an opportunity to express this. Flynn should have known that by now despite their relatively short acquaintance.
âIâll bring Tron and Iâll see this new project of yours,â Alan let that statement hang in the air for a moment. Much as heâd tried to tune out the squeaking, Flynn somehow managed to produce the sound at the most obnoxious times and it was beginning to grate on his nerves. Of course, simply being around Flynn was enough to grate on his nerves, but the intermittent squeaking didnât help. Alan felt his self-control slipping. âBut Iâm not playing any video games,â he blurted out. He hadnât intended to be rude to an executive, but this executive called for just a little more patience than Alan had.
There it was, the façade was slipping. So Dr. Alan Bradley was human, after all. Flynnâs grin opened to release a short chuckle, and he gave the chair one last, victorious squeak forward as he sprawled his upper half onto the table. He leaned and nodded at the same time, âAll right, all right, Iâll try not to round off your square edges too much. Just try to keep an open mind about the project, yeah?â

âUh,â Flynn rubbed the back of his neck. Yeah, youâre probably better off not knowing all the details.
âI drove you. Donât worry about it, man. Just get your rest and get better, okay? Do you need anything?â
Alan slowly nodded in acknowledgment as Flynn spoke, afraid sudden movements would increase his dizziness. The ever-present headache clouded his mind, but he fought to remain focused on Flynn.
âDonât know,â he replied.
Just then, the nurse returned, asking to speak with Flynn. Once they were away from the room, she spoke.
âPreliminary results show your friend has been drugged, in addition to the alcohol in his system. Weâre going to keep him under observation until weâre confident heâs stabilized.â
Drugged. âWho would do that?â Flynn fairly exploded at the poor nurse. The stress of the past few hours, hell, the whole night, having caught up and blindsided him. He rubbed his face, immediately withdrawing his misplaced anger. âSorry, sorry. I just donât understand. Heâs a programmer. Weâre both...weâre both programmers. Who would drug a programmer,â he stammered as he struggled to recall the scene at the bar. Frankly, he hadnât been paying attention to Alan for a solid ten minutes at least before removing him. Anything, anyone, could have gotten to him in that time. âWhat can I do to help, have the police been called? Do they know what bar it was? I can give a statement, if it would help,â he looked around as if expecting the cops to suddenly appear.

[anyone still missing Flynn threads they wish Iâd have replied to]?
"Do you remember me?"
âUgh⌠w-what?â
Ram couldnât remember much of anything at the moment, and only half of the strangerâs syllables had reached him. Heâd been⌠in a building? Or outside of one? Itâd collapsed, in any event, and he could blearily recall trying to usher another program out of the way and getting hit by debris in the process.
As he attempted to blink the spots from his vision, the hacker tried rolling over onto his back, only to be met with a flurry of error messages and a wave of dizziness. Fine, laying flat on his stomach it was.
The physical impact of the hug may have been minimal, but it still knocked Flynn breathless for a moment. He tried to talk, tried to dig his voice back out and all he found was a laugh made of relief and disbelief. He wrapped his arms around the program and hugged him tightly.
Finally finding words, he spoke quietly, âIâve missed you, man.â It hadnât really dawned on him until this moment, just how true that was. He couldnât explain how either of them were standing there, but for the moment, it didnât matter.
They were barely more than acquaintances, really, for how well they knew each other. Flynnâs presence accounted for a very small portion of Ramâs total runtime, and yet⌠Maybe it was just his programming reacting to the unexpected success, but that explanation seemed too cold. Too impersonal. Because despite how briefly theyâd known one another, the program really did consider Flynn his friend.
Another breathy laugh to keep from getting overwhelmed, and then he pulled away with an almost sheepish smile.
âSorry. I didnât think-â a hitch in his air intake, like the sound that sometimes precedes tears, but the smile was still there. âIgnore me, itâs⌠itâs been a long cycle. But if youâre ready to go⌠shall we?â
âYeah!â Standing here with Ram, in a digital world, an adventure ahead, Flynn felt the cycles lifting away. He could almost let himself believe he was a young man again for a second, the weight of the years in exile not holding him down. He lifted an arm, almost dramatically, and smiled, âLead the way, man!â
Seeing Doudble [drunk!Alan; Open]
âŚÂ
Flynn dropped the magazine he wasnât reading as if it was on fire and ran after the nurse.
âHey, Bradley.â
For the second time that night, Flynn felt his insides tightening. Seeing his friend that way was jarring. He cleared his throat awkwardly, trying to keep air moving to his lungs and space for words to move out.
âHowâre you feeling, man?â
Alan looked over at him, confusion evident on his face. Something inside Alan told him he knew this stranger, that he could trust him. Something told him: SAFE. Alan smiled at the man who addressed him, although there was still something missing from his eyes. A sense of who he was, where he was, and what he was seemed gone, lost in the swirling world of realities. That voice. I know him! Alan tried to consider what his response should be. How did he feel? He finally shook his head.
âI⌠Iâm not sure,â Alan replied, gently placing his head in his free hand. âI wish I could understand whatâs going on here. Unfortunately, I donât even know where here is.â Alan looked around, trying to understand the strange room and all its furniture. His eyes once again made their way to the âtelevision.â
As Alan stared at the wall with the strange television, things began to make sense.
Hospital.
He was in a hospital. Why?
He continued looking around until he once again saw the man standing.
âFlynn?â He asked finally.
âYes?â Kevin took a hesitant step forward. He slightly lifted his hands, âItâsâŚitâs all right. Youâre in the hospital. You uh, hadâŚkind of a wild night.â
This is not what Iâm good at. Give me a busted car radio or bugged code. Something I can solve. I donât know what to do here.
He tried to smile, his facial expression wavering between âfrighteningâ and ânervousâ finally resting on the edge of âunsettledâ.Â
Alan squinted and glanced around.Â
âApparently so,â he stated, looking back at Flynn. âIâm guessing Iâm glad I donât remember it. However, howâd I end up here?âÂ
âUh,â Flynn rubbed the back of his neck. Yeah, youâre probably better off not knowing all the details.
âI drove you. Donât worry about it, man. Just get your rest and get better, okay? Do you need anything?â
Pieces of Broken Memories
Flynn instinctively drew back from Rinzlerâs hand. It was difficult not to look at the program and see death reaching for him. He couldnât reconcile the image with that of his old friend, Tron. And yetâŚsomething in the way Rinzler moved, at timesâŚ
âI donât know. Iâve got toâŚfigure something out. Maybe keep watch, in case the others come back.â Flynn undocked his disc and activated the readout. There wasnât much he could do to repair himself but it would help to at least know the extent of the damage. Self-diagnostic was one advantage of living a digital life.Â
If Cluâs forces do show up again, he thought, I could be in real trouble.
He immediately took his hand back, keeping it to himself and averting his gaze to the ground so he wouldnât have to see that look again. He couldnât stand seeing it, especially from an old friend. Being around and remembering Flynn again had given him a mistaken impression that he was remembered as he used to be too. Tronâs memory flooded his own and brought him right back to the day theyâd parted ways, which wasnât constructive in the least bit. Time had taken more things than he account for, as had CluâŚ
With a quick glance at Flynn, he kept his eye on the beam of light in the distance. Was the Admin waiting for him? Had he let him down by crashing? Maybe heâd been written off as loss by Clu⌠The better question was what to do with the flood of memories heâd gained by seeing Flynn again. He couldnât go back to serving his luminary, not after he knew what had been done to h-⌠to Tron. He wasnât Tron, Tron was dead, that was a factâŚÂ
But what did that make Rinzler?
Flynn worked on his disc, keeping half an eye on Rinzler. He wondered if heâd imagined the awkwardness that had descended between them. There, that was all he could do for now. He docked the disc and felt the synch. That should patch things up for now. Good enough. âWell, we canât stay here,â his gaze scanned the Sea, a habitual watch for pursuit of Cluâs forces. He shoved himself painfully up to a kneeling position, preparing to stand, and addressed the program next to him. âHow about you, do you think you can walk far?â
Hey Flynn, how are you? Hope you, Tron and CLU are well! :)

"Flynn? You said you wanted to see me?"
âHey man! Yeah, come on in.â
Alan tried not to be impatient with his new CEO, but Flynnâs lack of instant focus was trying his patience. He instead tried to focus on what Flynn had spoken before he became distractedâŚ
âMaybe you should ask ENCOMâs âjelly bean fairy,ââ Alan muttered, but then swiftly changed the subject. âAnyway, you said youâve got âbig plansâ? I donât suppose you want to enlighten me on them right nowâŚ?â Alan pried, hoping to guide Flynn back to his original topic.
Plans. Jellybean. Chair squeak. Jellybean. Plans. Flynn reached up and shoved his hair back out of his eyes. It was getting long and due for a trim. Maybe he should just start gelling it back now that he was an Official Boss Man. The party-all-night look might not be âinâ for corporate CEOs. He tossed another jelly bean into his mouth and grinned at Alan.
âI would love to. Actually, Iâd love to show you what Iâve been working on, but Iâve still got some little bugs to work out before itâs ready for a grand tour. And security. Iâm gonna need the best security you can give me for this.â Kevin rocked the chair slightly, too excited to sit still, âitâs gonna be worth it though, man. Once itâs safe and things are running smoothly, itâs going to change everything!â His mind rewound a few seconds and he sat straight up, âActually, Iâd really like a copy of your Tron program, if thatâs possible. Working with him was great! I think Tron would be a perfect fit for this.â
âWell, Tron is the best in security,â Alan puffed with pride. âAnd you know me, I keep backups of everything! âŚBut what is this all about? Flynn, what are you doing?âÂ
âWhat am I doing?â Flynn grinned and rocked the chair slightly, squeaking it, knowing it would probably irritate his straight-laced conversation partner.
âWell, that is the question, isnât it?â he tilted his head slightly, thinking. It would be very complicated to explain. âYou know what, it would be easier just to show you. Probably not, but whoâs going to stop me, Mr. Master Disaster?
