Oh and my favorite part about him which sadly is hard to link to but is the fact that you’d expect him to have this kind of nice tenor voice or something, but NOPE he’s got this basso profundo husband material voice that grinds out of, I don’t even know, maybe his toes or maybe out of the center of the Earth’s molten core, it’s like any minute now he’s going to bust out a Shakespearean monologue and you’d totally be okay with that because he could probably get you off with the St. Crispin’s Day speech. JUST SAYIN’.

As far as I can tell his sin was being the Doctor who starred in a fairly mediocre - and AMERICAN - TV-movie version of Dr. Who in ‘96 that was supposed to spur a TV show, but for whatever reason (I think a combo of ratings, rights, and the UK freaking out over the idea of Dr. Who being made in the US) the show never happened. So that TV movie is all we get of Eight, aside from the tie-in novels (of which I may have read all of them. Spoilers: I read all of them). It had some greatness, like Grace the Age-Appropriate-Seeming Companion (as opposed to some wispy 19-year-old) and Chang Lee the Good-Hearted Sort-of-Criminal-But-His-Heart’s-In-The-Right-Place, and oh my god ERIC FUCKING ROBERTS as the Master, just chewing every piece of scenery he could get his hands on and being fucking hilarious. But sadly, not enough greatness for us to get McGann instead of Eccleston (who I love! but like, I could’ve done with a few years of Eight before moving on to NIne), even though apparently Moffat was inspired by McGann’s performance as Eight and thought it was cool. WHATEVER, still bitter after all these years.
