Musings for Incoming Nursing Students
As roughly…6 weeks away from being officially halfway finished with nursing school(madness!), I found myself extraordinarially stressed today. We had a big exam followed by a day of difficult, frustrating, and sometimes boring class. We have a big assignment due Friday, and frankly people were crying in the hallways. The breakdown has come and mine began tonight when I could NOT get the mediasite for a lecture we’re quizzed on tomorrow to play without skipping. A 1 hour lecture took 3.5 hours and I started crying into my wine glass.
After finally getting myself somewhat together, I found myself thinking in the shower. There is no way to REALLY have prepared for nursing school-it is as rough and demanding both physically, mentally, and emotionally as everyone says), however there is a way to survive it.
I kind of did this via the starting of this blog, but all soon to be starting nursing students out there:
I want you to write a letter to yourself now. Nothing super fancy-unless you want-but in it, I want you to write about how you feel right now going into school(excited? a little nervous?). I want you to write about why you want to be a nurse and what type of nursing you want to do/interests you.
Then promise me something. Every night you have like tonight(there aren’t many, but there will be some), please pull out your letter and remind yourself exactly why nursing matters to you.
Because it does matter. It matters so much and when I remind myself- I feel so rewarded and fortunate to be able to have this opportunity to do such an amazing thing with my life.
