It is said that the play is under George’s supervision. I did not care about the prophecies in it or the fact that Daenerys appears in Rhaegar’s dreams with her dragons; she is one of the most important characters in the story and has a major role, so that makes sense.

But what bothered me was the disgusting justification of Rhaegar’s actions.

And the claim that Lyanna was communicating with him through the same dreams about the Song of Ice and Fire, as if she was willingly accepting this relationship.

What is even worse is the claim that Elia accepted this relationship and did not object to it.

So, in the end, neither Lyanna nor Elia are victims, and they do not deserve sympathy for what happened to them, because they supposedly created and chose this fate themselves. As if Rhaegar was the innocent, dreamy man with pure intentions who deserved love, while the women should simply bear the consequences of his decisions.

Before Fire and Blood, the great fandom theories about the reign of Jaehaerys and Alysanne were about their nation building over crumbs of information.

The giving of the Gift to the Night Watch and betrothal of Viserra to a Manderly was a political use of soft power to keep the Starks in check.

Nope. We are wasting the hand of a royal princess on a fat old man that has buried multiple wives and has many heirs.

Daella Targaryen married an Arryn and her daughter, Aemma, marries back into the family? Maybe it was a reward and apology for Arryn loyalty and a move against the Velayron faction over the succession.

Nope. Jaehaerys hated his mentally disabled daughter and wanted her married off like she was about to spoil like milk. To, again, an old man with multiple heirs.

And the royals marry off her daughter even younger.

Nope. Vaegon wasn't interested in fucking his sisters or fucking in general so Jaehaerys thought him a failure. Saera was a slut so her father wanted her punished as much as possible and her mother did nothing.

Instead of the making of Westeros, it is the amusement over more and more salacious sexual abuse of little girls and women.

Did Rhaena really needed to be punished again by her lover stealing and abandoning her, her husband murdering her friends, and her daughter dying as an eldritch horror?

Did Alyssa need to be abused by her husband, abandoned by her son, and die screaming in childbirth?

Did we really, really, really need to know that Jaehaerys raped Alysanne to get Gael?

There a thousand and one ways to end off a character.

He is writing for a mass of love depraved teenagers and adults with messed up hormones who can't tolerate to actually use reason. IF this "mad king" play turns out to be the canon of the book, then it's confirmed Martin is no longer what he used to be. He prioritized money and what's "trendy". I'm no longer going to continue to read this saga.

So yeah, I hope I'm being very stupid and not reading stuff correctly. But if this is made canon... It's pure character assassination. Not only of our beloved Elia Martell, but also Daenerys, Lyanna and Rhaella.

lyanna should have been kept as rhaegar’s royal mistress AND held hostage in the red keep. elia is portrayed as this ambitious and politically savvy woman, but she’s really just a cersei 2.0 — and she makes mistakes that ultimately cost her her life (as well as that of her children). george essentially blames elia for what happened to her and absolves rhaegar of all responsibility, because he’s his little prince and favorite character who can do no wrong.

how is it politically astute to let your husband publicly humiliate you, to let him run off with a 15-year-old girl (who can’t consent to anything), and to end up held hostage with your children at the mercy of a mad king? it just sounds like bad fanfiction.

Oh the poor innocent dreamy white boy, he didn't deserves this, and Elia is alright with that, the fuck!!
