Well I got this charming, cruel comment this morning. I wanted to see if anyone else got a similar message on their story. The comment "source material" made me raise an eyebrow that it's one of those scummy ai comments.
Yet, as a reminder to those who don't write: it's free to click off stories and not leave comments this horrendous if you hate the story.
This is actually very discouraging. Like personally.
I've been dealing with a lot of internal struggles about how I write. I love doing it, but I do honestly feel insecure about it and it's caused a lot of turmoil. I know my writing is lacklustre and it's haunted me for a long time. I had six years to improve and failed.
I recently made a career shift because I realized I didn't have a natural talent for it.
Of course, I'm open to handling criticism that's actually helpful (ie beta readings I requested or needed and if I wrote a delicate situation poorly) but this was just cruel. If on a worse day, this comment actually would have straight up discouraged me from posting again.
Folks, seriously don't do this to ao3 writers. It's one of the last places that doesn't have insane censorship laws. Don't make them leave out of cruelty.
