59 years ago, in 1958, a new icon was born. Known legally as John William Weller Jr, this man was soon to become a staple of late 70’s and early 80’s Punk Rock and Mod Revival. Known throughout his life as Paul Weller, or ‘The ModFather’, he changed the sound of a generation and as the likes of Steve Marriott, Pete Townshend and The Davies Brothers had done beforehand, he brought about a revolution. A revolution through the generations. Wielding a Rickenbacker 360, him and The Jam changed society yet again, kickstarting a whole new wave of the mods. His brilliance can be heard through bot only his work with The Jam, but his solo work too. He is a massive inspiration to me among many and a true pop culture legend. And as he puts it so well: “I’m still a mod, I’ll always be a mod. You can bury me a mod” Happy Birthday Paul Weller.

On the 19th of May, 1945, a legend was born. Not only was he amazing at playing the guitar, creating his own tones and styles of playing, but also revolutionized showmanship itself. His ‘Art of Destruction’ became a staple to hold his band, The Who into history, and to show the world that times were changing, that this generation would not sit down and shut up and do as they were told; they would rebel against the system. Since then, this ideology snowballed, taking The Who into international megafame and writing them into the history books. His musical brainchildren changed the way music was listened to and written. Having written most of The Who’s music, his compositional skills took them to the heights they reached. It was also not unknown for him to leave a practice session or come off stage with cut and bloodied fingers, having played too hard. The Who produced masters in each of their fields and lead composer and lead guitarist, Peter Dennis Blandford Townshend is no exception. Truly one of the world’s all time greatest.
