Parchment is not “old timey paper”. I know the majority of people think of parchment and think of the speciality paper that’s made from wood pulp to look like parchment, but that’s not parchment.

It’s made of animal skin, it’s heavy, and it’s stiff. Mistakes in ink can be literally scraped off it because the parchment was scraped to get it that thin in the first place. One cannot crumple parchment into a ball and throw it in your Elizabethan wastebasket or at your teacher, and if you tried it would at best crack and not even stay in that position. Not that you would, because uh, have you priced leather recently? Real leather? Now imagine that leather treated specially in an unusual way that made it much more time-consuming to make than normal leather. That shit’s expensive.
