Since we talk about this on my blog a lot, I decided to do another breakdown.Ā Iāve been thinking about another example to use while watching Merlin because I was stricken by the scenes Merlin has with Gwaine and I was stricken by them because Colin has a very intense energy in his scenes, his stares are very focused no matter who heās speaking to
and Eoin is very charismatic in his scenes, he has a roguishness, he has a charm
and together, they have an easy chemistry
and itās almost flirty but itās not quite because they donāt have that kind of chemistry
itās kind of coquettish and intimate but still like a brother-in-arms kind of deal, they donāt feed off of each other
like how Bradley and Colin do
where a stare between the two of them looks like theyāre wordlessly confessing theyāre undying [romantic] love for the other, where thereās an actual kind of tension
(still havenāt seen this scene yet, looking forward to it)
or looks like they want to jump each otherās bones even during the most innocent scenes
thereās even a different kind of charge between goofy Merlin and Gwaine
and goofy Merlin and Arthur
so even though I watch Gwaine and Merlin together like oh you two are kind of flirting, I donāt feel compelled to ship them as more than a brotp because their chemistry is still platonic.
A shorter way to say this is they remind me of that gifset of Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth eating chips and Hemsworth is like, āThis is exactly how I thought youād taste likeā and Evans is kind of dying in the background by the innuendo of that sentence but Hemsworth is oblivious, itās messy but innocent and thatās Gwaine and Merlin
whereas Merthur is almost stressful because their chemistry is so decidedly not platonic and every time they look at each other you think they might kiss
but you know they wonāt because thatās not the legend.
