I've tried explaining this to people before, generic sex scenes being used as a means for eye candy moments with characters who have no bond are boring.

Scenes where there's actually thought put into the characters preferences and how they'd bounce off each other are interesting and development.

Eg. The tough general who's in command of everything is a soft bottom who wants to be treated tenderly.

Or for an established couple, if one party is shy and the other is boisterous, between the sheets they're the opposite. The shy one nearly breaks the loud one pelvis and they love it!

There's a reason fandoms develop headcanons on sexualities, libidos and position preferences etc, it's a part of the character life that gets overlooked or ripped off by the writer.

While Sonar yearns to be sappy and romantic, being a douche runs in his veins.

Can't go a single date without saying something rude at least thrice, (he says it all while holding your hand or doing something affectionate).

And you both laugh at each other when you trip, nearly pissing yourself while helping the other up.

You end up pulling him into your neck during cuddles so he doesn't ruin the nice moment and shutting him up with kisses, it works.

Thoughtful in a way, you get given a flower he saw outside in your favourite colour then asks "So am I getting laid tonight?"
