First and foremost, give him space. INTPs are uncomfortable expressing emotions in front of others, especially negative emotions like grief definitely is. They also need time to introspect and go over what is happening inside them in a safe, isolated space. They need to process what happened first and human presence will be contraproductive, even if the person needs well. They need to be alone for a while and the best you can do is to provide them the needed space.INTPs also value open communication. They can be somewhat awakward at human interaction so your INTP may not be aware that they are sending out messages that they aren´t interested anymore.What you want to do is let your INTP know that you are there for them anytime they need. It is improbable that they will actually come to you for comfort but it lets them know that you are invested in them but at the same time, you are giving them the space they so desperately need. Once they feel ready, they will come back to you.If you are worried that they lost interest, ask them, but be extremely careful as it is a crucial time. One thing INTPs really hate are emotionally needy people, people that need emotional validation from the INTP (in higher that required levels). If you tell the INTP that you feel neglected because they are preoccupied grieving the loss of their father, they might close off to you because for the time being they are focusing emotionally on their father.Recommended course of action is patience and support from the sidelines - give them the space they need but be ready to talk and be there for them once they decide they are ready, definitely don´t push them.
