❄️ ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────    “ it is more peaceful. yes, i do but i feel i’ve always been rather lonely regardless. ”

“ you’re preaching to the choir, babe. ” meg peered down at the keyring of sticks that had nail colours at the end of it. “ i always get purple or reds … mind if i steal ice-blue for a while ? ” she asked with a sideways smile. “ but yeah, no, i get you. it’s … effort … hanging around with people all the time. ”

❄️ ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────     “ i suppose i am. ”  elsa replied with a small smile. the queen looked at her own ring of colors for a moment before turning to meg.  “ sure, only if i can borrow purple. ”  a small teasing smile graced her features as she sat the ring down.  “ it is. i’m not used to being in so many social situations or having people around. i’m used to isolation. i suppose it’s reassuring my sentiments are shared. ”

if there was one thing kit had learned about balls, it was to always follow his nose. his nose, for one, could steer him away from situations like young royals who had found themselves too sick after drinking too much, or from a group of older dignitaries smoking a whole through the ozone layer in a drawing room. 

the better trick, however, was his nose leading him to the kitchens. 

when he opened the door, back against it as he pushed it open, he beamed as he saw elsa. the prince wasn’t at all surprised. “ fancy seeing you here ! and, i confess … ” from under his cape, he, quite comically, revealed a bowl of collected desserts, “ … you’re a half-hour too late, but thank goodness you came, otherwise i might’ve gobbled up the whole place before you could get something. ” quickly, he walked over and set down the bowl, opening his arms up for a hug with elsa.

❄️ ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────      seeing   her   beloved   kit   in   the   kitchen   brought   back   fond   memories   of   much   simpler   times   for   elsa.   times   where   she   was   allowed   to   just   be   herself   without   the   pressures   of   others   expecting   her   to   be   anything   but   perfect.   with   kit   she   was   allowed   to   be   just   elsa   and   that   was   a   gift   she   cherished   wholeheartedly.      “   the   kitchen   always   seems   to   be   our   spot   does   it   not   ?   ”      the   queen   asked   with   a   playful   grin.

she   made   her   way   to   kit   so   she   could   take   in   his   extravagant   outfit   he   had   on.   it   was   certainly   not   like   the   suits   she   had   seen   him   wear   when   they   were   younger.   blues   hues   brightened   as   she   saw   the   collection   of   treats.      “   i   braved   being   social   longer   than   i   imagined   i   would.   a   treat   is   deserved   alone   for   that.   kit   !   you   would   not   dare   to   eat   all   these   treats   and   leave   me   none.   ”      she   teased   easily   sliding   into   his   arms   and   hugging   him.      “   you   look   dashing.   vibrant.   ”   

❄️ ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────   sneaking   away   during   these   sort   of   events   wasn’t   anything   new   to   elsa.   despite   being   forced   to   attend   these   year   after   year   the   overwhelming   sensation   that   filled   her   body   never   seemed   to   go   away.   snacks   always   made   situations   better.   elsa   could   practically   smell   the   chocolate   from   the   ballroom.   the   kitchen   was   a   place   not   many   frequented.   it   felt   like   the   best   place   to   unwind   and   not   feel   so   overstimulated.   her   nose   hadn’t   failed   her   yet   and   elsa   came   face   to   face   with   a   few   chocolate   cupcakes.   she   was   about   to   grab   one   when   she   saw   the   kitchen   door   open.   she   stilled   in   fear   that   she   had   been   caught   by   a   chef   or   wait   staff   in   a   place   she   wasn’t   supposed   to   be   but   soon   fell   into   an   ease   as   she   came   face   to   face   with   kit.   it   felt   like   she   was   a   child   again   seeing   him   in   a   similar   situation   they   had   found   themselves   in   many   times   in   their   youth.      “   we   always   manage   to   end   up   in   here   don’t   we   ?   ”

☽ 𝙵𝚄𝙻𝙻 𝙼𝙾𝙾𝙽 𝙱𝙰𝙻𝙻 ☾

❄️ ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────      elsa   had   gone   to   the   flower   shop   to   find   something   for   victoria.   she   had   noticed   her   roommate   had   been   feeling   off   lately.   elsa   wasn’t   one   who   was   great   at   comforting   people.   flowers   were   always   a   nice   gift   so   the   queen   thought   this   would   be   a   perfect   middle   ground.   upon   entering   the   shop   she   noticed   a   familiar   figure.   she   had   heard   tales   of   aurora   from   kit.   she   had   yet   to   meet   the   newest   edition   time   to   the   charmont   family   but   it   seemed   as   though   today   she   would   have   the   honor.      “   aurora   ?   ”      elsa   asked   with   a   gentle   smile.      “   this   must   be   a   bit   weird   and   i   apologize   if   it   is.   i   know   it   can   be   a   bit   startling   when   people   know   you   without   really   knowing   you.   ”      she   rambled   with   an   awkward   chuckle.      “   i’m   elsa.   kit   is   a   dear   friend   of   mine.   he’s   spoken   quite   fondly   of   you.   ”

cass was a morning person by discipline if not by nature - her father’s military leanings and her own stubborn training schedule had seen to that. and then the busywork she’d been given around the castle, which was better to get done sooner than later if she wanted to avoid mrs. crowley’s scowls.

that discipline meant that, whether she was waking up beside elsa or not, she had a morning routine to stick to. at least now it sometimes started with untangling from her girlfriend.

becoming official, as it were, didn’t feel much different from what they’d been doing before. for cass, it felt more like they’d just affirmed something which had been true for a while - that this thing between them had been growing like a creeping frost, whether they’d named it or not.

it also didn’t mean running into victoria on her way back to elsa’s bedroom was any less awkward. victoria was sweet, but still. alas, if you want the rewards of spending mornings with your girlfriend, sometimes you have to go through the mortifying ordeal of running into her roommate in the hallway.

“do you actually want to know? or are you just hoping i’ll flex for you?” she replied as she entered, narrowing her eyes in a playful faux suspicion. she circled around to set the mugs she’d brought with her down on the bedside table before giving a proper answer. “it was alright. same as always,” she shrugged, reaching out to cup elsa’s face in warm hands and press a kiss to her forehead, and then her lips. “good morning,” she murmured in a gentle, belated greeting.

❄️ ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────  the   transition   between   friends   and   girlfriends   had   been   seamless.   the   only   thing   that   seemed   to   shift   was   the   new   title   they   both   held.   the   feelings   that   elsa   had   for   cassandra   had   really   only   intensified.   she   was   content   in   this   little   bubble   they   had   made   over   the   years.   the   dance   they   tangoed   along   the   line   of   ‘what   are   we’   finally   ended   with   roses.   it’s   not   that   elsa   had   a   need   to   label   anything.   she   was   content   with   just   having   cass   in   her   life.   however,   the   rush   she   felt   anytime   she   called   cassandra   her   girlfriend   was   truly   unmeasurable.   it   was   like   sitting   under   the   sun   on   a   warm   spring   day.   for   someone   who   lived   in   the   cold   and   loved   it   the   feeling   was   very   inviting.   the   queen   could   almost   see   herself   making   a   home   in   it.

elsa   never   thought   she’d   find   peace   in   such   mundane   activities   such   as   lazily   lying   in   bed   waiting   for   her   lover   to   return.   it   was   a   luxury   she   had   never   had   nor   allowed   herself   to   have.   there   was   so   much   resting   on   her   shoulders   but   here   in   the   afterglow   with   cassandra   she   could   just   be   elsa.   not   the   queen   of   arendelle,   not   the   woman   with   ice   powers,   just   elsa   which   was   something   she   had   not   been   in   quite   some   time   without   fear   creeping   in.   

“   is   both   an   option   ?   ”      the   queen   asked,   a   blush   staining   her   cheeks.   she   feigned   a   look   of   innocence   as   she   sat   up   a   little   straighter.      “   there   was   nothing   particularly   interesting   happening   today   ?   ”      it   always   seemed   there   was   an   adventure   to   be   had   in   elias.   elsa   felt   herself   melt   at   her   girlfriend’s   touch,   happily   returning   the   kiss.      “   good   morning,   my   love.   ”   she   mused,   dazed   and   happy.

“ um … ” serena stalled, looking around. seeing their reflection in the bar mirror, she honed in on that, her eyebrows furrowing as she focused. “ i don’t know they just … they seem to be figuring you out. trying to place you in their memories … or they could be … well, they could be interested in you, ” she said awkwardly.

❄️ ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────   elsa’s   brows   furrowed   as   serena   spoke.      “   place   me   in   their   memories   ?   ”      she   asked,   the   idea   of   someone   trying   to   place   her   from   somewhere   in   their   mind   bothered   her   to   some   degree.      “   i-interested   ?   oh   why   would   anyone   be   interested   in   me   ?   ”      she   asked   fidgeting   with   her   hands.

         IT WAS COMFORTING TO HEAR  that  someone ,  her  dear  elsa ,  was  willing  to  be  patient  with  her .  victoria's  parents  had  never  given  her  so  much  grace ,  especially  as  she  got  older  and  therefore  less  easily  to  control .  of  course ,  she  never  gave  much  thought  to  such  things ;  who  wants  to  reminisce  about  their  parents'  poor  choises ?  ❛  we  ought  to  plan  a  trip  then ,  either  for  the  two  of  us  or  anyone  else  that  you'd  like  to  join  us !  i'm  afraid  i  can't  really  afford  that  right  now ,  but  that  only  gives  us  more  time  to  prepare ,  wouldn't  you  say ? ❜  while  victoria  didn't  particularly  like  to  speak  about  her  finances ,  even  more  so  her  family’s ,  elsa  was  one  of  the  few  people  aware  of  her  current  situation .  after  all ,  the  two  were  roommates  —  it  would've  been  impossible  to  keep  such  a  part  of  her  life  private .  nevertheless ,  she  thought  she  was  doing  quite  well ,  especially  since  getting  a  job .  her  first  job !  smiling  a  bit ,  she  nodded  as  elsa  spoke  of  music .  it  made  perfect  sense  to  her ,  and  it  made  victoria  wonder  if  it  was  how  victor  expressed  himself .  probably  so .  ❛ i  do  agree ,  though  i'm  afraid  that's  the  very  reason  my  mother  doesn't  approve  of  it .  feelings  and  emotions  are  a  nuisance  to  her ,  so  the  product  of  such  things  could  only  be ,  well ,  loud  nuisance .  i'll  be  sure  to  introduce  you  to  each  other ;  he's  rather  introverted ,  more  than  i ,  but  you  have  a  comforting  presence . ❜  one  she  believed  victor  would  quickly  warm  up  to .  suddenly ,  a  particular  face  comes  to  mind .  ❛ on  the  subject  of  people  in  our  lives ,  how  is  your  friend ?  the  one  i've  seen  here  a  few  times ,  um …  oh ,  cassandra ,  i  believe ? ❜

❄️ ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────    “   yes,   i   think   that   would   be   lovely.   we   could   bring   a   nice   little   group.   i’m   sure   my   friend   kit   is   indeed   of   a   vacation.   it’s   alright.   as   you   said   it   gives   us   time   to   prepare   properly.   ”      her   dear   kit   was   due   for   one   years   ago   but   with   her   own   self-care   cruciade   the   queen   was   determined   to   make   sure   kit   also   found   a   well   deserved   peace.   the   blonde   frowned   ever   so   slightly   as   victoria   spoke   of   her   mother.   it   was   times   like   this   where   elsa   was   grateful   that   queen   iduna   had   been   such   a   loving   mother.   even   with   elsa   in   isolation   she   could   always   feel   her   mother’s   love   through   the   other   side   of   the   door.   elsa   had   been   forced   to   shut   her   own   feelings   off   for   the   safety   of   others.   in   her   time   here   she   had   learned   that   letting   go   wasn’t   a   bad   thing.      “   feelings   and   emotions   can   be   complicated   but   they’re   not   a   nuisance.   i   am   sorry   your   mother   felt   as   though   they   were.   that   would   be   lovely,   victoria.   thank   you.   i   am   more   than   excited   to   meet   someone   who   means   so   much   to   you.   ”      at   the   mention   of   cass,   elsa   felt   her   cheeks   burn.   she   was   sure   her   porcelain   skin   was   stained   bright   red   from   how   fiercely   she   felt   herself   flush.      “   oh,   uhm,   cassandra   is   my   girlfriend.   she’s   wonderful   as   per   usual.   ”

he shrugged in response to the question. “no worse than usual,” florian replied, the words flippant - though not so much as to be dismissive. this was elsa, after all. and it was as truthful an answer as he could probably give - what did sleeping well really mean to florian charmont, anyway? (he knew why she was asking, what she was asking. maybe if he had more practice with it, he’d be able to spill his guts - talk about bad dreams and sleepless nights and old habits that had formed years ago and longed to drag him into another downward spiral. but it had been too long since he’d had that kind of vulnerability - with sorrel as the notable exception - and… he could still be helpful, if he was needed. what really mattered, beyond that?) “is this a ploy to get me to compliment you? because that might also be grounds for divorce,” he replied, narrowing his eyes with faux suspicion, though the amusement in his tone was undeniable. “you would’ve made a wonderful wife,” he added only a moment later, the same gentleness he’d spoken to her with when they were young seeping in. there was nothing romantic behind the words - not anymore, if there ever really had been - but that didn’t make them any less genuine.

❄️ ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────  elsa   gave   a   thoughtful   hum.   florian   had   always   been   secretive.   in   that   sense   they   were   similar.   both   plagued   with   problems   they   would   never   dare   share   with   anyone   else.   however,   elsa   did   feel   relaxed   in   the   company   of   the   charmonts.   she   would   be   open   with   florian   if   the   opportunity   ever   presented   itself.   not   as   open   as   she   would   be   with   her   dear   kit   but   she   trusted   florian   enough.   after   all   they   were   once   set   to   be   marry.   not   wanting   to   pry   she   gave   him   a   gentle   smile   and   reached   to   squeeze   his   arm.   a   little   nudge   to   let   him   know   she   was   here   if   he   wanted   to   talk   and   she   would   still   be   here   even   if   he   didn’t   want   to.      “   no,   no   !   i   would   never   trick   you   into   such   a   thing.   ”      the   queen   blushed.   her   hair   might   have   grown   out   some   but   it   was   still   too   short   for   her   to   reach   and   mess   with   as   she   would   have   in   this   situation.   any   anxiety   she   might   have   felt   quickly   dissipated   at   florian’s   compliment.   such   softness   from   a   boy   that   rarely   showed   it   now.   it   felt   special   to   witness   such   a   thing.   florian   wasn’t   as   bad   as   the   media   painted   him   to   be.   elsa   knew   he   wasn’t.   he   was   just   a   little   lost.      “   thank   you.   you   would   have   made   a   wonderful   husband,   ”      and   she   meant   that   whether   florian   chose   to   believe   it   or   not.

“ and forever’s a hell of a long time. ” without a soul, would she live forever ? or would she die sooner ? the thought sobered her, pulled out a worry deep from within her, and it showed in her eyes. her face twitched, and she hoped she could hide by turning towards the door and stepping in. meg cleared her throat and schooled her features before continuing. 

“ less flashy but yeah, it could do in a pinch. ” she took elsa to the shoes counter. throwing the huge sign across, she hopped onto the counter and spun around, landing with a careful thud on the other side. “ what’s your shoe size ? never thought i’d ask you that, ” she added with a snort. “ what have you been up to anyway ? hopefully you haven’t met someone else with a suspicious campaign to take over the world. you’re still … ” she motioned a crown on top of her head, “ … right ? ”

❄️ ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────   “   it   is   only   if   you   want   it   to   be.   ”      it   was   a   concept   that   elsa   didn’t   really   dwell   on.   there   was   nothing   within   the   realm   of   forever   she   neither   feared   or   cherished.   not   anymore   at   least.   there   was   a   time   she   believed   would   feel   the   grief   of   her   parents   death   forever.   she   carried   it   better.   she   thought   she   would   live   in   fear   forever   and   now   she   was   beginning   to   live   life   again.   forevers   had   come   and   gone.   at   least,   the   negative   ones   had.   

“   well,   fingers   crossed   we   won’t   have   to.   ”      she   smiled   as   she   followed   meg.      “   oh,   uh,   7.   ”      elsa   nodded.   she   never   thought   meg   would   either.      “   yes,   i’m   still   queen.   my   sister   has   been   trying   to   get   me   to   go   back   to   arendelle   for   sometime   now   but   i’m   happy   here.   i   met   someone   ...   she’s   wonderful.   i   really   love   her.      ”      a   flush   painted   elsa’s   cheeks   as   she   spoke   about   cass.   she   really   hadn’t   talked   about   it   with   anyone   outside   her   circle   because   she   was   protective   of   her   bouts   of   joy.   she   caught   her   lip   between   her   teeth   as   she   mulled   over   her   next   statement.   “   i   understand   you   and   hades   aren’t   on   good   terms   but   he   helped   me   be   more   comfortable   with   myself   and   my   powers.   i   feel   a   little   more   free   now.   there   is   a   life   now   worth   living   in   for   me.   ”
