And I don't like talking to anybody...

"At least Chlo and Izz are having a good time." You say as you motion towards the cluster of sweaty bodies in the middle of the room. The dim light from the chandelier is cascading down on them as they all move together in time with the beat. Archie and Izzy are swaying in unison with their hands above their heads. Chop is twirling Chloe through the sea of unfamiliar faces, all with wide smiles and laughter like wind chimes.

I wish I could be like them. Carefree. Unable to recognize the mass of strangers in such close proximity on the dance floor. Not frightened by friendships, or any relationship for that matter. Maybe I should try though, so I finally meet your gaze thinking that maybe you and I could be something more than snide comments and dirty looks. As I study you I notice the way the vein on your neck is slightly raised and my mouth waters as I imagine running my tongue over it.

"For Christ's sakes, Rae, you've been ruffling through that box for ages, will you just put something on?" I roll my eyes. Of course we'll be nothing but snide comments and dirty looks, at least until one of us becomes a murderer and the other is ten feet under.

"Would you like to dance?" Finally. Someone is here to save me from this bumbling twat.

"Absolutely," I sigh as I turn, giving you a sarcastic smile. You look at me like you want to say something else, but your eyes turn colder and you turn away. Tall and blonde and exceptionally beautiful, I follow him out onto the dance floor. I let the music wash over me and I can't help but begin to move. I close my eyes and I feel his hands on my waist and him pulling me back into his chest and abdomen. Warm. It feels good to be this close to someone. I bask in the feeling as the liquor courses through my veins and I begin to feel free. My limbs are loosening and my breathing becomes more even and deeper. I feel my heart beat in time with the music and I imagine that maybe I, myself, am made of music. I am not a person but I am a song.

My mind wanders away from the man dancing with me and wanders to you, and I ponder if we were both songs whether we would be on the same album. I feel him turn me around so we are face to face and my mind returns to the present. I don't even know his name, but when he looks at me with those hazel eyes I know I would forget it if he told me anyway. His eyes drop from my gaze to my lips and I feel him lean in slightly. I know he's thinking about kissing me. And when he finally does, his lips taste sweet, almost like raspberries but his tongue tastes stale and it makes me shiver with disgust. He takes this as a sign of pleasure and pulls me closer and I decide, despite the twist in my stomach, to run my fingers through his hair because I'm not ready to give up the warmth yet. 

But I have to, because I feel your hand wrap around my upper arm pulling me away from him and I turn cold again. "What the fuck, Finn?!" I shout over the music. I'm sure you can feel me trembling from the chill that has found its way back into my blood too soon. Though where you touch me my blood is still running hot. You look back at me with fire in your eyes, and I know better than to not say another word as you pull me along. I don't understand why you've pulled me away, but I'm too exhausted from our constant bickering to start another round in our game, so I go with you willfully.

We end up in an empty bedroom on the second floor of the house. You tug me in to the room and shut the door behind you. When you finally let go of my arm, I feel the chill creep back into me and I realize I've lost all the warmth I'd begun to savor. My stare turn icy as my eyes finally meet yours, "Why did you bring me here, Finn?Couldn't you see I was having a good time?!"

You look at me for a short moment, like you're trying to decide what to say. "No, you weren't."
