The first restaurant-approved 3-D printer was unveiled. It makes chocolates in any shape imaginable.
FINALLY!!!!!
Food can be created in delicate, intricate, unique shapes without extra processing, harmful chemicals or hours of labor.
Open a laptop, sketch a 3D model in a simply CAD program and watch it print, in full 3 dimensional glory: right on the kitchen counter!
Michelin star Gastro-Chemist-Engineer chefs are officially nervous...and they should be, this could change everything!
Clever is nice but effective interfaces matter more. Here Etsy's Creative Director Randy J. Hunt explains why.
You can absolutely "over" design something just as easily (if not more easily) as "under" design it...may the "best" design win!
Based on early buzz and how technology has progressed over the last 12 months, here are some of the most important trends we'll see at CES this year.
No big surprises here but still some cool things to look forward too: if you are lucky enough to go to CES this year; be sure to check these booths out!
You can play it or even hack it. Completely translated into HTML5 (for your inner nerd)

Disney Research Develops Tactile 3D Touchscreen

These life-changing shortcuts are RIGHT AT YOUR FINGERTIPS.
A few of these were new to me...enjoy!
The "Genesis" concept design from RCA student Nir Siegel would 3D print a car at your doorstep.

What will they come up with next?!
Houses that build themselves?
Tools that can make their own replacement parts?
Imagine receiving a large package that contains a modest looking 3D printer...ok, that's not that cool. Now imagine, the second that you turn that printer on: the item you purchased (a car, a tool, a house) is created before your eyes.
How much can we save on packaging, transportation and materials if we could 3D print everything, and I mean everything, we need?
Obviously, this isn't happening today: but it might tomorrow.
What would you print if you could print anything you wanted?
The new Ikea catalog is a great application of augmented reality in a situation that it would actually be useful: buying furniture. How often have you stood in Ikea wondering if this green couch will go with your red chair? It’s one of the great woes of furniture buying. Using the Ikea companion app along with the paper catalog you can preview how a piece will look in your home. Just use you phone to engage with one of the 90 AR-enabled pages, flop the catalog onto the floor where you would like to see your green couch, and enjoy your virtually decorated room in all its glory.
Someone should tell Tyler Durden.

"Tumbleweed Tango" was directed by Hydra and NYC production/post/VFX studio Humble. The short is one of Humble's studio-funded projects which the company has created to let its staff experiment with new approaches and creative techniques. In "Tango," the idea was to help them flex character design capabilities and also test drive new rendering software and compositing techniques.
#ResizeThatShit is a responsively designed jigsaw puzzle for the browsing elite. Play on, player. http://www.resize.thatsh.it
A handful of really bored creative people over at Droga5 came up with this fun play on responsive design. They created a puzzle game that you play by constantly resizing your browser window to move around the pieces. There are five picture levels that get progressively harder and a timer in the top left corner to keep score. I like the nerdy 8-bit illustrations juxtaposed against the techy responsive design. Overall its an interesting application of responsive design and pretty fun waste of time.
Yelp Wordmap: explore patterns in the urban fabric of Los Angeles. Density of the word "bacon" in Yelp reviews.
A cool new feature added to Yelp called "Wolrdmap" now visually represents the frequency of keywords using a heat map. The more frequently a term is mentioned in Yelp reviews, the more vibrant the red area on the map. This is a really cool application of the vast amounts of user data found in Yelp. As of now you cannot search your own term, but must choose one of the available selections such as "bacon" "cheap" "patio" or "tourist" (and strangely enough it defaults to "hipster"). The tool is available for major cities and is fun to play around with; the El Segundo area has a slightly pink tinge for "bacon" and "hangover."
Apple has filed an application for iWatch trademark in Japan, Bloomberg reports citing a June 3 filing with the Japan Patent Office.
The rumored Apple iWatch has apparently made its way into Japan according to the Japanese Patent Office. This adds to the roster of major technology companies creating wearable tech devices. Google's Project Glass is already on the streets as part of the Glass Explorer program (available to the general public coming soon), and it is already rumored that Google is developing a smartwatch to compete with the not-yet-released Apple iWatch. The Pebble smartwatch is already available and compatible with iOS and Android devices. With all of these choices in wearable computing coming in the near future, which would you choose to wear?
Protect your tech by showing it a little summer lovin' by weatherproofing and waterproofing it with these tips.
With the first day of summer officially behind us, we mark the beginning of a season filled with beaches, pools, and all things outdoors. Of course, this also means we take our technology out there with us. How could we properly enjoy a sunset walk on the beach without posting the photos to Instagram? (or now, a 15-second video version of it). Not to mention the pool parties where someone inevitably falls/gets pushed in the water with their smartphone in their pocket. Technophiles, fear not; with a few precautions you can still enjoy the great-outdoors while live-tweeting your hikes.

We're ready for our close-up, Mr. Systrom.
In the next couple of month's Google will be launching Google Wallet which will make sending money to people as easy as sending them an email. Gmail users will be able to enter their bank account info to send money without fees to anyone even if the person you are sending it to is not a Gmail user. Small fees will apply for anyone that wants to send money using their debit card or credit card.
It will be interesting to see if keep it personal or try to takeover Paypal as the default for online purchases from Ebay and Etsy, among others.
