the county police donât bother with anything supernatural (they do not believe. not surprising.) so spitkisser00 turns to flesh revival instead.
they made the right call. after all, the resort and town would be in the hands of a ghost-hunting tech expert, an occult specialist, and you. the clairvoyant who can see the otherworldly with a membrane filter under your eyelids.
inspiration derives from franchises such as tales from the gas station, supernatural, silent hill, the ritual, the blair witch project, phasmophobia, and ghost files.

AKSEL / ALEKSA HAUSTEIN [M or F] The Reckless Lagomorph. the one who sent your team to camp hillbird in the first place. yes, they are spitkisser00. A works as a tattoo artist and is an avid fan of your paranormal youtube channel, fascinated by every strange thing flesh revival manages to uncover. with a reckless appetite for adventure and a talent for making bad ideas look fun, they insist on joining the investigation as your self-appointed guide.
PERCY / PIERCE DILLANE [F or M] The Bleeding Hound. a traveler returning to halvrest to help at their uncleâs auto shop, while also taking on fishing work around camp hillbird to keep their family afloat. unfortunately, they also happen to be someone from your past. as one of the people tied to the ugly history you and your friends would rather forget. further telling that the sharp-tongued P wants nothing to do with your investigation or with you. though somehow, bad luck keeps forcing the two of you into each otherâs orbit.
TAKANE / TAKERU MEGURO [F or M] The Hillbird. the owner of camp hillbird and the architect responsible for much of its design, making them the person standing closest to every secret buried beneath it. however, for someone so elegant and frustratingly unreadable, T is being haunted. if anyone holds the truth about camp hillbird, it's them. you just have to be persistent enough to get close.
MAVERICK WARDWELL [NB] The Crooked Stag. a well-known regular at camp hillbird with a jack of all trades reputation. hunter, horse rider, professional bargainer, you name it. charming to a dangerous degree, maverick trades secrets for favors. whether they are helping you or simply entertained by you remains unclear.
SALEM ABERNATHY [trans M] The Sentient Vulture. a ranger assigned to oversee camp hillbird, meaning he also has to deal with you and your friends. salem spends most of his time patrolling the grounds and making sure no one gets themselves in trouble chasing ghosts in places they absolutely should not be (aka you guys). he's armed with too little sleep and the patience of a man being tested by the universe.

You and your friends have been in a band since high school, when all you were was a lead singer to a band that played out of someone's garage and did occasional birthday party gigs for the neighborhood kids. after years of grinding, your band has yet to make it big, but has managed a small and dedicated cult following. All you and your bandmates want is to see your names in glittery lights, traveling the world to perform for millions of fans.
Your chance comes in Misfit Alley's Battle of the Bands. After auditioning every year with no success, your band has finally gotten the opportunity to tour across the United States and open for the biggest band in the world, performing against other bands in the hopes that you win and get signed.
As you perform, your fame rises and you can see the dream coming to fruition. But with fame comes problems of its own, some that might just ruin you and the band you swore to take to the top.

The Band Manager: Orion/Oriana Quinn ⎠he/him or she/her, 35 ⎠[RO] -- strict and reserved, O is the antithesis of what a rockstar is. Some call their cold and uptight demeanor having 'a stick up their ass' but they call it being business focused. O is all about bringing the band to the top, which includes being professional at all times.
Special romance route: you can choose to have been chasing O for years, to no success (until now?)
The New Addition: August Pierce ⎠they/them, 26 ⎠[RO] -- With the exit of your bandmate, August has taken her place as the band's drummer. Usually shy and reserved, that all goes out the window once they start playing. You wonder if their isolation is less a personality trait and more the fact that they're in a band with longtime friends. Doesn't matter--seems like it'll take a while for you to get close to them regardless.
The Idol: Griffin/Gina 'Gigi' Reign ⎠he/him or she/her, 28 ⎠[RO] -- the spunky, charming and controversial lead singer of Misfit Alley and now your mentor, G Reign is currently the most famous person on Earth. Everyone either hates them, wants to be them, or wants to fuck them. Of course, this means a slew of trouble if one gets close to them...that is if they even allow it.

The Rival: Seven Lawless ⎠he/him or she/her, 27 ⎠[RO] -- once your best friend or ex, they are now your rival and the lead singer of Soft Violence, another band competing for Battle of the Bands. They hate you. Still, the line between love and hate is a whole lot of passion.

The Girl Dad: Sebastian Holland ⎠he/him, 33 ⎠[RO] -- a normal and friendly data analyst, Sebastian isn't about the music scene....but his daughter is and she's a superfan of your band. Sebastian is your typical 'nice guy' almost too nice, sometimes, and has been dragged along by his daughter to follow the Battle of the Bands for her birthday. He's just a normal civilian. The last thing you should do is get to know him, right?
The Eye Candy: Victoria Valentine ⎠she/her, 27 ⎠[RO] -- G Reign's wife, she's an upcoming actress and model. Victoria has been G's eye candy since they came up on the scene, but you can almost sense the tension between them. And the way Victoria seeks shelter in someone else...that could be you.

This game is heavily focused on relationships, so expect a lot of romance, but romance is not required to progress through the story if that's not your thing. Azaâdeh Asayesh âThe Desert Jewelâ
(Male or Female)
The Mahdi of the Ahara Desert first dwellers, the Emir, and former high priest/priestess of the followers of Taiâjik, the god of deserts and safe passage. Through great sacrifice and worship, they were able to acquire Taiâjikâs blessing, which in turn is used to protect their people from their enemies. Azaâdeh puts the safety of their people above all else, even going to great lengths to keep them away from harm, including allying themselves with a being hated and feared by all.
They have a rich, dark-skinned complexion, darkened by the unforgiving sun of the desert, and light emerald green eyes that appear to shine under the sunlight. They stand at 6â tall with a surprisingly muscular physique for someone who is seen doubled over books all day.
Azaâdehâs hair is dark brown with a few peppered caramel strands and slightly wavy. Male Azaâdeh likes to keep it short on the sides but longer on top and brushed back, with the longer strands gathered in a tiny ponytail. Female Azaâdeh keeps her hair long, reaching beyond her shoulder blades, with a golden headpiece styled with gold coins and encrusted with tiny emeralds.
They are sure to attract everyoneâs attention.
Wulfric âThe Beastâ
(Male)
One of the Wildmen, considered by many as a bunch of uncivilized and savage people. Some say they are not even humans but beasts who take the form of monsters when angered. Worshipers of the great goddess of fertility, Vaal, and the deity of love, Amorr, the Wildmen are protected by both, and whatever the truth may be, people tend to stay clear of the rainforests up north. Itâs up to Death to learn for themselves if the myths are true or just stories told by crazy old hags.
Wulfric, as a Wildman, can take the shape of a large black wolf. While in human form, he maintains all the features expected of a human except for longer and sharper than average canines. He is 7â5ââ tall and has honey-colored skin along with a powerful and intimidating physique. He usually keeps his dark-brown, wavy hair set in a single braid that reaches way past his shoulder blades; several tiny fairy skulls and sharp, curved fangs are secured around the tip. His eyes are light brown with specks of honey.
His appearance is certainly intimidating.
Ăoin "The Mortician"
(Male or Female)
The faithful follower. Maybe the last human in all Hylaria to worship the Abyssal in secret, of course. Ăoin still follows in their family's footsteps by taking care of the Yskari Mortuary. With a shy and reclusive personality, they prefer the silent company of the dead over the noisy living. With deft hands and endless devotion, they make the intricate practice of embalming a form of macabre art.
Long weeks tugged away underground have given them an extremely pale complexion; their skin is covered in rusty freckles that get more accentuated the longer they stay in the sun. Their eyes shine like pebbles washed by the ocean waves but may appear darker depending on their mood. They stand at only 5'2'', and while male Ăoin displays a crown of fluffy, curly, bright red hair that barely reaches his ears, female Ăoin maintains her fiery locks long and wild.
They will believe in you when no one else will.
Kazael Crane "The Necromonger"
(Male or Female)
Kazael became an orphan early in their life and, through a series of misfortunes, spent most of their childhood wandering the streets of Luanya. After a rather traumatic event, they became aware of their true heritage and that death carries great power. As they delved deeper into this new, somber world, not becoming numb to the deaths happening around them seemed impossible.
Kaz's most striking feature is certainly their deathly pale skin, not a rarity in a city where the sun never makes an appearance, but even then no mortal skin can be so devoid of lifeâfor this reason they resemble more a walking corpse than a living being. They have slick, bluish-black hair, like iridescent crow feathers, kept fairly short on the sides and very long on top. Their eyes also seem devoid of color, the shade of monochrome memories, silver-blade.
Is their heart truly as lifeless as their appearance?
Sol "The Sun God / Goddess"
(Male or female)
God/Goddess of the sun, light, music, and civilization. Sol embodies the life essence itself, being the second deity to acquire physical form after the Great Sacrifice. A calm, wise, and passionate divine, but also wrathful towards the evil and cruel. Is up to the MC to decide what kind of relationship they had with Sol in the past; lovers, friends, or nemesesâthe choice is yours. With glowing, sun-kissed skin, a muscular, powerful, towering body, and eyes of liquid gold, they represent the epitome of perfection.
With Sol, everything is possible.
Leon/Leona "The Golden Prince/Princess"
(Male or Female)
The beloved prince or princess of Solarys, the greatest city of Hylaria. As their father's oldest child, they grew up being showered in the most expensive gifts gold could buy, until their brother came along. The tales of their heroics, kindness, and generosity are forever etched into the hearts of the people that they care so much about. But as their father's health deteriorates with each passing hour, they must adapt, against their will, to the role of King/Queen.
Leon/Leona is the mirror image of their mother, with blond hair that brings memories of golden wheat fields, of many-hued stems that dance in the autumn light, and light blue eyes that sparkle with boisterous mirth.
Their bravery and valor are enough to inspire Death themselves.
Amorr "The Deity of Love"
(Gender-fluid)
Amorr is the Furyan deity who embodies love, beauty, and carnal pleasure. Their presence alone evokes compassion in the hearts of mortals and gods alike, although that wasn't enough to spare you of a terrible fate.
As probably the only furyan deity who completely regrets their role in your imprisonment, Amorr will jump at the opportunity of atonement for their past sins. Is up to you to decide their fate.
Amorr is known to change physical appearance on a whim, but they like to remain faithful to certain traits. Their hair is a lovely shade of light pink, usually reaching past their delicate shoulders in soft waves. Out of all the Ten, Amorr is the shortest in height, reaching only 7'3'' when in their divine form and 5'2'' when in human form. They have porcelain skin with a healthy pink undertone and lightly freckled cheeks always tinted with a rosy flush. As a divine, their eyes reflect their essence, taking the color and glint of a rose quartz under the sunlight.

I'll admit I'm not much of a blog guy, (so expect me to be a little technologically illiterate when it comes to this Tumblr thing) but I think it's important to have a place where I can talk about the development process of my game, answer questions, and perhaps even post supplemental materials in a place everyone can see, not just on the Choice of Games forum.

Uh, mistakes probably, but beyond that you can look forward to monthly updates on my writing progress on the first of each month, answers to your questions, and, as previously mentioned, maybe additional material if I'm ambitious or inspired to expand the universe with information or world building that doesn't fit directly into the game's narrative.

INTRODUCTION
Pactbinder is a WiP dark fantasy interactive fiction university novel set in an alt-history England, where you play as a once-ordinary person who has struck a bargain with an eldritch force in order to gain the gift of magic and walk in the hidden world of mages.
Word count is currently ~292k, which covers the game's prologue and first three chapters.
My inspirations are too numerous to do them all real justice, but Donna Tarttâs The Secret History and R.F Kuangâs Babel often find themselves on my mind as I write, as do many of the stories about students attending magical schools that I read growing up.
Outside of literature, I hope that anybody who has enjoyed DMing for or roleplaying a Warlock in a darker Dungeons & Dragons campaign will find something to enjoy in Pactbinder.Â

SYNOPSIS
Aspiring mages flock to the halls of Hightower to pursue the best arcane education in England, perhaps the world. For those blessed with the Gift of magic, there is no nobler dream than to study beneath the universityâs elegant arches and develop skills and connections that will serve one for a lifetime.Â
However, the Gift is a rare privilege that is almost solely the birthright of the nobly born. This is the way things have been for as long as anybody at Hightower can remember. This year will be different, for rumours abound of a new student born Gifted but raised ignorant of the existence of magic; an oddity anywhere in this world, but particularly scandalous at elitist Hightower.
You are not that student. Youâre just the person who stole their life.Â
As the Pactbinder, a once-ordinary person whose path to Hightower was paved by a bargain struck with an enigmatic entity of unspeakable power, you must fight and scheme to carve out a new life for yourself during your first year at Hightower whilst working to master your stolen magic, serve your patron and discover the universityâs secrets without compromising your own.Â
Ultimately, it will fall on you to answer one question: What price would you pay for the life of your dreams?

Note that with the exception of the Pactbinder (the MC) and the Entity (their eldritch patron), the core cast are the gameâs primary ROs. RO genders are fixed, though all of them can be romanced by male, female and non-binary characters.
The Pactbinder (MC).

Appearance: Player determined.Â
Description: A mysterious individual who stole the gift of magic from an unwary victim who was set to be the first mage born outside of magical society to attend Hightower in decades. Now impersonating that victim to take their place as a student, the Pactbinder must master their stolen magic whilst serving their Patron. How they feel about all this and what they plan to do about it is up to you, as is everything that they do next.Â
The Entity
Gender: N/A
Appearance: An empty space in misty skies, its outline barely suggestive of a humanoid form. Though its appearance is ever-shifting, it is always crowned by a halo of six red stars.Â
Mastery: Wields unknowable power over reality far in excess of the works of mortal mages, if indeed it can be compared to them at all.Â
Description: An enigmatic being who struck a bargain with the Pactbinder in their dreams, granting them power and access to the hidden world of magic in exchange for a lifetime of service. Its nature, true goals and desires are as yet wholly unknowable to the Pactbinder.Â
Alice Mortimer / Adelais De Mortemer: The WitchÂ
Gender: F
Appearance: Tall, slender and very pale, with aristocratic features, silver-grey eyes and long white hair.Â
Description: One of the Pactbinderâs collegemates. An inscrutable first-year student with a troubled background and a fearsome reputation, Aliceâs customary apathy isnât quite enough to mask her fiercely intelligent mind, nor the quiet intensity that lurks beneath her listless demeanour. Seemingly the only first year to have already awakened her Gift before joining the university, something considered dangerous and foolhardy by most mages.Â
Eleanor Whitworth: The Scholar
Gender: F
Appearance: Very short, with braided dirty-blonde hair, a heart-shaped face and warm brown eyes behind round spectacles.
Description: One of the Pactbinderâs collegemates. An academic young woman from a well-respected family of mages recently struck by misfortune, Eleanor seems fixated on restarting the long-banned Hightower Expedition Society, a group dedicated to exploring the ruins beneath the university town. A hard worker and fierce friend who can nevertheless come across a little bossy at times.Â
Finlay Stuart: The Prince
Gender: M
Appearance: Very tall and thin, almost gangly. Freckled, with short reddish-brown hair and green eyes.Â
Description: One of the Pactbinderâs collegemates. The second son of the Queen of Scotland, a country which seems to be an entirely independent power in magical society. Finlay himself seems like an affable young man, if a little homesick and uncomfortable with the attention his presence inevitably attracts. However, the circumstances surrounding his arrival to Hightower, which is in England remain shrouded in mystery, particularly given the apparent longstanding enmity between the two countries.Â
Layla Farouk: The Traveler
Gender: F
Appearance: Average height, lean and fit. Olive skin, hazel eyes and long brown hair thatâs often in a ponytail. Constantly on the move.Â
Description: One of the Pactbinderâs collegemates. The only international student in Hightowerâs first-year class, Layla is indelibly marked as an outsider from her very first day. The enthusiastic young woman seems determined to meet this challenge with fierce pride and make her mark on Hightower all the same, whether the university likes it or not.
Marcus Elmgrove: The Rebel
Gender: M
Appearance: Tall, dark-skinned and broad-shouldered. Striking features marked by a scar on his lip. Dark hair and eyes.Â
Description: One of the Pactbinderâs collegemates. Brooding and cynical, Marcus is the mixed-race son of an influential noble father and a foreign-born mother. As such, he walks the uneasy line between barely-tolerated outsider and accepted member of high society. Though a fierce friend, Marcus struggles to manage the conflict between his resentment of magical society and his desire to fly under the radar.

Daemir - The Stoic Lord. The tallest of the twins, Daemir stands out with his muscular frame. His long, white hair is often tied behind his head. His sky-blue eyes are often emotionless and cold.
Xavier - The Prisoner. His chocolate-brown eyes gleam with warmth. His short, curly brown hair adds a touch of charm, with a single rebellious curl that always rests on his forehead.
Tameran - The Pirate Captain. He has an intimidating presence, marked by his tall physique and tattoos that snake around his neck. His slightly curly brown hair frames a face where rebelliousness sparkles in his light green eyes.
Nicholas - The Rebellious Prince. He has mischevious dark blue eyes and wavy blond hair, parted into two curtains that frame his forehead. Tall with a slightly muscular build, his physique hints at a few duels fought, though fighting was never truly his focus.
Jarean - The Mysterious Servant. With his curly red hair and tall presence, he is a charming young man. One of his eyes is a deep, dark blue, while the other bears a white pupil, a lasting mark from an injury that left him blind in that eye. The scars across his face add a layer of mystery, each one telling a part of his untold story.
Maevra - The King's Guard. She has dark, curly brown hair and deep brown eyes that radiate confidence. Her tall, muscular build marks her as a intimidating soldier, and a scar over her bottom lip stands as a testament to her rigorous training.
Clara - The Adviser's Granddaughter. She has a youthful face framed by medium-length blond hair. Her light blue eyes radiate kindness and respect, and a small mole rests delicately above her lip.
Astryn - The Enemy. She has red-kissed hair, deep brown eyes, and long, dark waves cascading down her back. Despite her slim build, she's a fierce fighter, favoring speed over brute strength.
Lena - The Hateful Queen. Her long, straight dark brown hair perfectly matches the cold, merciless glint in her eyes. Though shorter than her brother, her presence is undeniably dominating, and her slim build hints that she has never touched a sword.
Revna - The Lord's Twin. Though shorter and slimmer than her twin, Revna still commands an imposing presence. She keeps her white hair cut just above the shoulders for ease in battle. Mischief glimmers in her sky-blue eyes, a sharp contrast to her brother's icy gaze.
If youâve played the old version, I recommend forgetting everything and playing the demo with a fresh perspective for a better experience.

The heir to a member of the all-powerful triumvirate which dictates society, and fellow classmate in the academy. A well-liked charming young man, loyal to those he cares for, caring, and honour bent on the traditions of High Society.
Seen as the ideal heir, and is seen as the golden boy of what a member of high society should be. Caesar has a desire to do what he believes is right, and bring justice to wrongdoers.
Physical appearance:
Short golden curly hair and eyes, a strong brow of darker blonde. A sculpted face that looks to be carved out of marble, defined jaw and bone structure.
Tall, broad and athletic from years of training, along with perpetually sun-kissed skin
Aurelia Lucius [F] [RO]
The heir to your familyâs rivals, a divide which spans back half a century. The daughter of current triumvirate member, who will also attend the academy in the same year as you. Considered distant, mysterious and quiet â much like her father, she does not speak unless she deems it necessary.
With a dislike for the spotlight, and preference for observance, she has a talent for perceiving the truth in people. When she does speak, her words are eloquent and formal, always well said.
Physical Appearance:
Long, wavy blonde hair that is so light it nearly appears white. She also has been blessed with the desired feature of golden eyes, which are complimented by long eyelashes. Her face is elegant, soft, yet with defined high cheekbones and jawline.
Average in height but with a lithe yet strong figure and pale skin
Perception: âToo nice for this world,â but still popular and with good public image for their positive attitude and natural charm
Fatal Flaw: Hubris
The desire to win, to remain desired and adored by others manifests in hubris. This leads to over competitiveness, a saviour complex, and underlying belief that they could do things better than others.
Perception: Irresponsible and reckless, short sighted â but also able to think outside the box and do things no one else can.
Fatal Flaw: Impulsivity
Driven by heart over mind, the fool is putting caution to the wind with their decisions at times. This can lead to many disadvantageous situations for them.
Perception: A more quiet, soft spoken type of person who may often blend into the background. Also seen as being smart, intelligent, and good at communicating, figuring out what people desire.
Fatal Flaw: Hesitation
Always putting caution first, deliberation, and other peopleâs feelings â this can lead to the hermit neglecting themselves, or not being able to make firm decisions when it matters.
Will this be a standalone?
A: yes, it will be. there will be two parts to the story, but it is all contained as one book.
Will there be more ROâs?
A: not for now, at least. to be honest, coding takes a long time, and adding more would only make each update take longer. iâm trying to ensure that everything in the novel is high quality, and that i can get this done.
How long will chapters take?
A: Depends heavily on length of chapter and my current workload in school + extracurriculars. 2-3 months at most, hopefully every month!
