 What is this? What was I thinking? Why didn't I put comments or notes in my notebook? The folder name suggests that I was going to take these colors and make some kind of color gradient. How is that interesting? I'm guessing I couldn't think of a good answer and moved on to something else.

Odds and Evens

The Moon exerts a non-uniform gravitational force on the Earth. The side of the Earth closest to the Moon is pulled more strongly toward the Moon than the opposite side. As a result, two sides of the Earth are stretched and two are compressed. This animation shows the tidal forces the surface of the Earth experiences as the Moon moves along its orbit.
