I have been saying this since before the 2024 NFL Draft even started: Caelen Carson will play significant snaps for a team this season. The former Wake Forest cornerback is now making that case himself. The 174th pick in April, Carson slid down the board far past where I had expected him to go. He was my 61st overall player, holding an early-third round grade. His combination of physicality and sky-high potential with ball skills plays perfectly in the Al Harris secondary. We are nearly two weeks into Dallas Cowboys training camp out in Oxnard, California and the players are in full swing. The competition has been fierce. Especially after the pads came on. The Dallas Cowboys defense in Madden 25 leaves much to be desired. The defense has one of, if not the best, defenders in the league, but there isn’t much love for the defensive players after him. The defense from top to bottom looks like a top-10 defense in real life. Madden 25, on the other hand, gave some pretty low rankings to defenders who had a great year last season. Despite on-field activities beginning, it is an off-field issue that is hanging over the Dallas Cowboys’ heads right now. They have yet to strike a deal on a Dak Prescott contract extension, and at this point, why would he try? Injuries are a part of the game. Unfortunately, they happen every season to every team. Some are minor, and others are serious. Some are to star players and others are to depth players. Last night’s Hall of Fame preseason game marked the first appearance of the league’s new kickoff rules. The NFL adopted the kickoff format championed in recent years by the spring football leagues. They’ve even tweaked the onside kick rules too. Thursday night’s game was halted late in the third quarter due to thunderstorms in the Canton, Ohio area. Still, the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans managed to squeeze in eight kickoffs in the Bears’ 21-17 victory. The NFL will utilize new technology in a few preseason games to assess its impact on the games. The technology in question is a Sony product called Hawk-Eye, which could potentially replace chain gangs in measuring line-to-gain. Several games over the years have hinged on the exact placement of the ball on the field. The Hawk-Eye technology will look to give games a more accurate measure to attempt to eliminate human error. When talking about the Dallas Cowboys offense, one unit is much weaker than the rest, a unit that has been a strength over the last five or six years. The Dallas Cowboys had their first official padded practice yesterday, and to this point, we have only been able to see players go with the flow and not go at things in full game speed.
