No Admittance, Except On Party Business

I finished my first embroidery project!! After three years of putting it away for months only to pick it up again, my hobbit hole is finally complete and I’m so proud of how it turned out! If you’re interested, my blog holds some of my old progress pictures:)

My first venture into embroidery. This sat for like three years as a wip with just the sky and the door and parts of the timber frame done, but I’ve been obsessing over it in recent weeks and now I’ve got a tree and grass!! I’m honestly super proud of the grass!

Ok it took embarrassingly long to post Maedhros. Like a year or something. I had him sitting all finished in my drawing book all this time, but I was worried I’d made him too much of a drama queen. Then I realized that with Maedhros, there can never be too much drama. So here we are!

I’ve already posted each of them individually, but they belong together so I couldn’t help myself.

Amrod canonically has hair a few shades darker than Amras. This is them in the Fourth Age of Valinor after reembodiment, with Amras having lived through most of the First Age, while Amrod, who died with the burning of the ships, was left both relatively unburdened by the effects of the oath and unmoored by his horrible death—however inadvertently—at the hands of his father and brothers.

Part of my ongoing series of portraits on the sons of Fëanor after reembodyment in fourth age Valinor.

Here are the others so far:

Maglor, the only son of Fëanor to survive the first age and return to Valinor by ship (Elrond dragged him along)

Celegorm, who I imagine was closest to the twins because of their shared love for the outdoors

Caranthir, who is glaring at everyone with extreme prejudice

Curufin, who has not yet understood that their time of evildoing is well and truly over

Amrod, who burned with the ships as a result of his father’s insanity and never got to set foot on Beleriand

I worked some more on Celegorm (here’s the earlier version), and since I’ve made significant changes I decided to make this a new post. This new version features actual values (light and shadow) on his face as well as his leather jerkin that I’m quite proud of (as opposed to the amorphous brown shading from the early version). It’s still the same painting. This is part of my ongoing series of portraits on the sons of Fëanor, here are the others:

Maedhros, too tired to deal with Celegorm‘s shit and yet dealing with it anyway

Maglor, him and Celegorm couldn’t be more different, but they grew close during the long years of Maedhros’ captivity

Caranthir, who has very little patience for Celegorm, or anyone really (Celegorm loves him anyway)

Amrod, the twin who died when Fëanor burned the ships

I’m going with the version where Amrod died on one of the ships when Fëanor had them burnt. Now, reembodied in Fourth Age Valinor, he grapples with the fact that he never got to see Beleriand, that he died because of his father’s madness, and that only one of his brothers opposed the burning of the ships. He’s young in the way none of the others are; even his twin, Amras, died hundreds of years after him. He sees that his brothers are heavily scarred by their experiences and their choices, and feels like an outsider looking in. They look at him and see the little brother they failed, and yet they can’t help but feel relief that he didn’t live to be consumed by the oath.
