Hiatus

Victoria laughed behind me. Something that almost sent a chill down my spine. I’ve only really heard her laugh before killing someone. I almost thought she wasn’t capable of a genuine laugh.

“Of course it’s working. You just don’t really get it. No matter what you’re still you. So, of course you don’t see it.”

She then grabbed me by the shoulders and fixed my hair. Her explanation still made no damn sense. Then again she was always the worst person to ask for an explanation. I would just have to ask Antimo for a better one later.

“There. Now you look like my brother. Now remember as long as we look like this you have to call me ‘Darla’ do you understand?”

Fake names? I couldn’t help but, sigh. Why couldn’t we use their real names and make this more simple? Not only did I have to pretend I was her brother I would have to remember these fake names.

“Yes. I understand.”

“And don’t forget to respond only to Andrew. If you hear your real name do your best to ignore it.”

I nodded. This would take some getting used to. Thank god it was only for a day or so.

I couldn’t help but stare as I saw her put her hair down and put on a jacket. It wasn’t my first time seeing her in casual wear. Or even her hair down.

Still, I could count on one hand the amount of times I’ve seen either but, both? This was a first. Not only that, the casual clothes I’ve seen her wear before were always nice. What only someone with a good eye could tell was designer.

What she was wearing now was a stretch to call “nice”. It was a dirty and hole ridden shirt with a faded logo. Equally dirty and rough looking jean shorts and beat up shoes.

I guess one thing about her that would never change is she always showed a lot of skin.

She turned to me and handed me equally awful clothes. For once I think I rather wear a track suit.

“Go change into this and while you’re in there think of somewhere you always wanted to go. Today let’s try and make some of your dreams come true. Ok, Don?”

“Here. Put this on.”

As I grabbed it I realized it was some kind of clip on. It was in the shape of a small dagger. As I put it on I realized I’ve seen Antimo wear this before. The two always seemed to wear some kind of jewelry in the shape of a sword or dagger. Of course, she would be such a stickler for the small details like this.

“Is this really necessary?”

“Yes.” She then tucked her hair behind her ear and wait did she cut her bangs? Her eye looked completely fine. Was the eyepatch really just for aesthetics? This entire time? What the fuck? I could’ve sworn she said her eye was-

Oh. It was probably an implant or something. I felt my face heat up at the stupid train of thought I had before. It was then that I saw a glint and realized what she wanted me to see. She wore a matching earring.

“Are you serious? Is it really that important we match. I thought you two hated that.”

She didn’t even respond. Just rolled her eye. No. Wait. Eyes. God. This was going to take some getting used too. She motioned for me to follow her so I did.

As we walked out of the room and toward the elevator I couldn’t help but, ask.

“So, if you had a fake eye to wear this whole time why didn’t you wear it around the family back home?”

She was quiet as she crossed her arms and pursed her lips. Leaning back instead of standing up straighter. Tapping her index finger against her bicep. It was a pose I was all too familiar with. It was almost relaxing to see.

“It’s not very comfortable to wear. I prefer the eyepatch. Have you decided where you want to go yet?”
