The Space Between Us
I don’t know you anymore.
And maybe that is the quietest kind of heartbreak —
not losing someone all at once,
but slowly realizing you’ve been standing beside someone
you no longer feel close to.
After years,
I know your routines,
your habits,
the life we tried to build.
But somewhere along the way,
I lost the feeling of knowing us.
We became two people sharing pieces of a life,
but no longer sharing the same world.
I miss feeling chosen.
I miss being asked if I’m okay,
not because it’s expected,
but because someone truly wants to know.
Because the hardest loneliness
isn’t always being alone.
Sometimes it’s being next to someone
and still feeling invisible.
I have poured so much of myself into this.
My time.
My energy.
My patience.
My hope.
And somewhere along the way,
I started feeling like I was disappearing.
The truth is,
I leaned on you so much because I didn’t have anyone else.
I didn’t have a safety net.
I didn’t have somewhere else to fall.
I made you my home
because I didn’t have one.
And maybe that is why this hurts so much.
Because I’m not only grieving a relationship.
I’m grieving the place I thought I belonged.
The distance didn’t just create miles between us.
It created silence.
And the silence started answering questions
I was afraid to ask.
