inmidsummer:
they don't talk much until they've exited the ride and are standing back on the path. natsumi loops her arm through eunbin's, jostling her gently. "that was fun. again?" she's only sort of joking - she could go again, but the lines are long and the other option, meandering, is starting to look better now that she's a little more hungry and has gotten her thrill. "or maybe not. we should get souvenirs." and take pictures, maybe, with at least one of the mascots running around, for later posting on instagram. it's not that natsumi takes great care to curate her digital footprint, but there's no harm in it.
she'd never allowed herself to linger too far to go astray, but here she stands — strands of hair wayward across her face, a palpable feeling of weightlessness guiding her steps, and company in the form of someone who feels like home. opportunistic lovers and young children crowding the lanes fill her vision.
perhaps, it's the make-believe of it all, and the ability to be concealed behind the disguise of regularity that tells her: she doesn't want to be anywhere but here right now. because today, when she's wearing the facade of normalcy, she'll allow herself to fall full-force.
her steps continue as her fingers attempt to dismantle the damage done by the shrills of the rollercoaster. arms locked, and eunbin's loaded with laughter that echoes from again. "no, no." she shoos away the subject with her fingers when the grumblings in her stomach cue her into a stop. too many rides one by one, and she's neglected the highlight of it all. "we should shop, and go find something to eat— i'll be sad if i leave the day without a cinnamoroll headband and a chococat donut."
"can't have you going home sad," natsumi jokes, and starts steering them towards the souvenir shop. if they're lucky, they'll pass by an attractive food stall on their way there - if not, they can always retrace their steps. eunbin and natsumi pass pretty flowerbeds, overflowing bins, the shorter lines at more minor attractions.. there's this atmosphere to this place that's so specific to parks like these: the sound of the rollercoasters, screaming kids, the sun beating down on them on the path.
natsumi doesn't come here often enough. eunbin and her don't do enough truly fun things, period; it's been all work and no play lately, and natsumi's always been a little thrillseeking, looking for a new experience to cut through the monotony of work and chores. it's not even that she can complain much - angelix travels plenty, and natsumi makes it a point to head out and sightsee whenever they do. but she wasn't meant to be stationary, and it's been more than a decade of seoul life now.
"hey, you know what we should do?" in her pocket, natsumi's phone vibrates. she ignores it. "i think we should go on a holiday. you, me, maybe we can ask the other girls if they want to come along. at least for a week, no cameras." after the comeback maybe there'll be time for something like that, when the festival season is over and they hit the autumn lull. "i've been dying for a change of scenery."
