Negligent Homicide, Reckless Driving resulting in Bodily Injury

In November 2025, after an emotional day in court, a former Hillsborough County (Florida) detention deputy learned his fate for a deadly high-speed crash. Daniel Hernandez was convicted of vehicular homicide and reckless driving for killing a 65-year-old woman and severely injuring her husband.

In court, the judge sentenced Hernandez to 15 years in prison followed by 5 years’ probation.

Daniel Hernandez sat silent through the two-hour sentencing.

His family spoke on his behalf and asked the judge for a lesser sentence.

Earlier, Hernandez was found guilty of vehicular homicide and reckless driving, after the electronic data recorder inside his Mustang revealed he was driving 109.2 mph just seconds before the impact.
