There was something about this female that unsettled him. What was it.. bah! if its truly important he would have know by now. No matter. 

 “You, female! Where is the nearest human settlement from here, tell me so and I shall spare your life.” They pop up like baby rats, so new settlements were not a new thing for someone like him. 

The chill his voice sends up her spine, how the breath catches in her throat - synthetic, programmed responses. No more, no less. How can they be anything else? Fear, like any emotion, evades her.

Or it should, anyway.

      “Not necessarily, I just don’t really care.”

  “How so? Why not enjoy the fear and pain those spiteful humans would go through in their last moments when they realize burning that ‘witch’ was a bad idea? But it is only inevitable if you decide it to be, they will not suffer unless you want them to.”

   He held no sympathy for the innocent girl that burned, pretending to care about her and Carmilla’s wishes like it was nothing but an act - the Immortal had simply caught his interest ( the more information he could get of her and her world, the better ).

    “Or is it that you wish to be noble, despite those men having done the same grave deed that has caused the majority of your suffering?”

Her eyes dart to his chest, to the side, down, looking anywhere but at him. She’s angry, she’s furious, and if the world is to go down then she will see it burn by her own hand just as she once did. Few have earned that right more than her.

Yet... she doesn’t know if she can. To kill those who wronged her is one thing, but to bring about the end of life itself? That’s asking too much.

“I’m not worried about that. The end of their lives, it is inevitable... The end of all life had to come sooner or later. I just... hate to get my hands dirty, is all.”

“... I suppose it’s inevitable, isn’t it.”

But that doesn’t mean she has to like it. It’s the same now as it was with the count, as it was with Hel; there’s no peace to be had in the company of her own kind.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO TAKE ON YOUR CURRENT MUSE (THAT YOU ARE POSTING THIS ON): It wasn’t so much what of her we saw in the game that drew me to her as much as it is what we didn’t see. Carmilla has a pretty big role in the series, but save for the final moments of Boktai 3, that role is mostly behind-the-scenes. I wanted to explore this fascinating character, you know, try to figure out why she is the way she is - I wanted to bring her to the light, so to speak. Plus, writing a more sociable character is a nice change of pace for me!

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE ASPECTS OF YOUR CURRENT MUSE: I see a lot of myself in her - namely the fact that she’s lived her entire life at the whims of those who hold power over her, and her subsequent loneliness, disregard for her own life, and complete, unshakeable devotion to the one person who’s treated her as an equal. There are many, many facets of both her and her Lunar Knights counterpart that I relate to, but those are the most prominent.

WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING: It varies but at the moment, Gothic horror and vampire fiction. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read Sheridan Le Fanu’s Carmilla for this blog.

FAVOURITE TYPES OF THREADS: Stuff that’s plotted out, stuff with story, stuff with some meat to it! I love writing out story arcs and character development, but I never do because I’m always too shy to approach people about it and I worry my ideas will sound silly anyway.

    “You have lovely bubbies, my dearest Carmilla.” With her face right between them, yes, she was observing. Preparing for gamahuching.

The paraSOL can’t be called fickle. It’s an unfeeling machine, subject to the whims of its creators. But the same cannot be said for them. Taking a break from her duties, Carmilla lingers a good distance away from the windows, should the force of the storm shatter them.

Such torrential rains and indiscriminate lightning strikes are a threat. The vampires’ collective rage, thick and oppressive, is powerful enough that even she with her state of emotional compromise is suffocated by it.

One of them must have fallen. Not he who bears the terennial of wind, she thinks sardonically, but it must have been someone formidable if they feel a need for a show of power like this.

The sound of the heavy front door slamming shut rips Carmilla from her thoughts. She’s already off to meet whoever is foolish enough to visit in such weather, as she knows of only one person who would even dare. Perhaps if he hadn’t been in such a sorry state, she might have been as close as she could be to excited.

He looks terrible. It’s hard not to after being out in such horrid rain. She rushes to him, quick to take his coat and making a note to herself to get him a towel.

It’s rare that Carmilla leaves the mansion, rarer still that she does so for leisure. Laura’s whimsy and charming disposition has an effect on her unlike anything else she, in her admittedly short life, has ever experienced, and there’s little she can do to resist her.

What dear Laura cannot do, however, is keep Carmilla from sulking about being dragged out for something as menial as clothes shopping.
