She wanted him to stay, everything hurt and she was scared, but time wasn't on her side.
"Jake..." She said I'm a rough whisper. He leaned down planting a kiss on her forehead.
"You rest now hun." Sadie had a feeling of what was happening. She wasn't feeling great with the thought of him leaving. Her panic rose when he got up from the cot and turned. "Jake dont..." She said this time louder, but the strain was still there.
"Don't worry Sadie. I'm not leaving you." What did he mean by that? He was clearly heading out and it was frightening her.
"Jake!" She called out, but he didn't respond. He kept on walking past the tent flaps and disappeared. Sadie yelled out his name again a few times, trying to get him to come back, but he never showed. She did attempt to sit up to try and go after Jake, but there was a force that was pushing her back down; Sadie tried hard to fight against it. Every movement she made created a stabbing pain, but she didn't care.
"be still Mrs. Adler!" voices again. She couldn't tell who it was even though they were familiar. "Stop moving. You'll break the stitches." Sadie couldn't process what was being said to her since her mind is swimming around in the fever. It was a small battle that suddenly faded, slipping away like a leaf caught in the breeze. With all the pain she felt from her own wounds, she couldn't catch the feel of a needle being injected, followed by a strange warmth that drowned her into unconsciousness.
