She watched him for a beat than let out a soft chuckle. "People see what they want to see. The often includes the most unexplainable, and anything they don't understand-- whatever makes them uncomfortable." She shifted her weight a little, unsure still if the man was more than he appeared, as was often the case in her line of work.
Sherlock considered her words for a moment. "It is true. Most would decide, should they see something they cannot explain, it did not happen... or start a religion based on such phenomena. On the rare occurrence that I come across something I do not understand, however, I seek to make the unknown known."
Yes, Sherlock was a know-it-all, and he was well aware of that fact. But not knowing something was actually an exciting day for him. That meant that there was something new for him to learn. And, as much as the paranormal fascinated most people, and there was a bit of morbid curiosity, perhaps, from him, he could not accept the idea that anything supernatural was happening here. No, he was quite sure that, whatever this was, there was a perfectly reasonable answer. One that did not involve spectres.

"I've met Hades, and I didn't find him particularly impressive," Alice admitted with delight, "he was very upset I got away from him."
As a niffin, Alice wasn't actually dead, and she found good reason to mock the god of the underworld for having to deal in disgusting humans and so, he couldn't take her.
"The underworld cannot have me anyway," she responded, perky as can be, not minding the other woman's knife at all.
Alice even shrugged her shoulders carelessly. "I'm here because I can be. And I need access to that pyramidal artifact that your little organization is making incredibly poor use of. You have no idea of what it can do for you, and, more importantly, for me."
"Then he'll want you back." Okay, that was a bit rude. Oh, who was Deimos kidding? She was rude all the time. But she didn't like people running in, acting like they control everything. She was the one with the blood of the gods, they were suppose to be stroking her ego, not the other way around.
But, at the comment of the pyramidal artifact, she raised a brow. "What pyramidal artifact?" She, of course, knew exactly artifact that they were talking about. But it only worked for those with the blood of the gods anyway... and, supposedly, Aspasia, but that was the only person she knew of that the godly blood rule didn't apply for.
"You've forgotten the part where you tell me what you can do for me. Because, right now, you bore me. And, when I'm bored, I find my own entertainment." Meaning someone ended up dead.

(For Wednesday from @flimflamandfire ) “I’ve got my eye on you.”
Wednesday's brow furrowed ever so slightly, imperceivable to those who haven't trained themselves to notice. "Better educators than you have tried and failed that." If she could outmaneuver Principal Weems, despite the woman's shifting abilities, then she doubted she had anything to worry about. She had far more important things to worry about at Nevermore, anyway.

“The cats are in a quiet room, Jaws is on the TV, and Barry is manning the grill. We’re good to go.”
"Hmm... I would have preferred him on the grill." Wednesday was joking, of course... well, mostly. Dort was... annoying on a good day. Some roasting of the suckling pig would sort out his more annoying quirks, one should hope.

Here is Leyra Damaris. She is a Betazoid on the command track of Starfleet. She comes from a long line of Starfleet officers, so Damaris carries a legacy. She's not getting the promotions and postings because of her family name, no, but it definitely leaves an idea in other people's minds of who she is.

Ava understood wanting to protect one's child. She'd certainly used her advantages for her daughter's sake, though never nearly as crudely as their illustrious mayor. Still, Donna was happy, safe because of the environment Ava had provided for her. If someone came into town to threaten that, Ava Troy couldn't say she'd bear it gracefully either.. in comparison perhaps, but it was a low bar compared to two women fighting over Henry.
"Hm, that certainly explains why you're here.. four hours early, doing your homework in my kitchen." Not an uncommon occurrence to be fair, Ava had watched both Mills children while their mother and the late sherif Graham had been occupied elsewhere. Ava didn't soften exactly, she rarely let that happen completely.. she had standards to maintain, but her tone was light, slightly teasing. Homer purred, content with his current place.
"A cup of tea ought to help.. for the moment at least." She sighed, turning off the stove and reaching into the upper cabinet. Tea in this house always meant blends taken from the garden rather than a store shelf. Ava Troy would rather die than drink store bought tea, nevermind serving it to a guest. "Is there anything else going on dear? You look about as well rested as I felt when Donna first came home."
Minerva shrugged slightly. "Henry's not required a babysitter at home, but he knows to call me if he needs something. He usually keeps me up to date on what he's doing, even if he doesn't tell mom. At least it's quiet here." Henry being yelled at for wanting to spend time with his birth mom would only result in her yelling at their mother for yelling at Henry. "Emma seems nice, but... way out of her depths in the whole parent thing. And I fear that the only person who's going to end up hurt in this feud is Henry."
Was there more? Yes. But how was she suppose to explain her dreams without people thinking she was just as crazy as they thought Henry was? "Just... not sleeping well." Let her think it was just stress. She wasn't completely sure if it wasn't stress, even. But the dreams were unsettling enough that it made sleep difficult.
@inkdreamt liked for a starter from Circe!
Minerva had been babysitting Donna since... well Ava couldn't quite remember when. She was a responsible and capable young lady.. Donna adored her and little Henry. Which was in part, exactly the trouble… the tension in the Mills house had worsened after Sherif Swan had first sauntered into town. Neither of the children seemed to be left unscathed.
“Are you sure you’re alright? You look a bit tired..” Ava frowned, turning from the pot of pasta she was overseeing. Even Homer could tell something was wrong. The cat had jumped onto Ava’s perfectly clean island and stretched himself before the girl. Beloved Imperious creature that he was.
Minerva looked over to Ava when she heard her ask if she was all right, then back down to her own work. "Oh, I'm fine." She stroked the head of the cat gently before looking back to her. "It's not exactly a secret the Mills household has been... turbulent... ever since Henry ran off and found his birth mother."
But far more importantly, at least to her tiredness, was the odd dreams she had been having. Of her running through the woods, ground under her paws. Of heartless men, of magic. She didn't dare mention them at home, the last thing she needed was their mom thinking she was egging on Henry's belief of their mother being the Evil Queen.
@inkdreamt liked for a starter from Asteria!
There were times... lives, when Asteria just needed a bit of quiet. A little shop, a shelter... something that let her do the Amazon mission and allowed her to breathe at the same time. Her work had taken her across empires, across oceans... from more populated areas where she could slip through large crowds, to rural and war torn areas that actually needed her help the most. Midvale seemed like a good idea, despite the risks that always came with smaller towns. It'd been too long.. since she'd been this close to the sea. She'd been looking out at the waves when she felt herself being watched. Out of the corner of her eye, Asteria could see a girl, no older than thirteen by the looks of her.
"It's a lovely view, isn't it?" She said lightly, offering the child a mild if friendly smile so as not to frighten her.
Kara looked over to the woman as she heard her speak. "I guess," she said before looking out across the water. "If you're here to talk to the Danvers, you're going to have to wait." It wasn't so much that she wanted to be rude. Far from it, but so far? She wasn't exactly enjoying her time on this planet. While the parental units were fine, the daughter, Alex, hated her. Not to mention the fact that she was ages away from Kal, which made her task of protecting him so, so difficult... even if he was too old to realistically need her help.

At first, the twelve year old thought she hadn't correctly. Girls getting locked in attics were the things of old stories... then Donna's bright blue eyes caught the look in Mal's green ones.
"Locked in the.... a week... for sitting at the table..." Donna's whole body went still, blue eyes wide in horror. How old must have Mal been? the last time... had she tried before? what kind of monsters- Donna's heart ached... her lip trembled as tears swam in her eyes. She blinked several times, finally looking away from her friend before she broke completely and made this about her own comfort.
"... that's not right." she said at last... her voice shaking on the last word. She was angry, furious even, she was horrified... she was hurting for the child Mal must have been. "That's not- We don't do that here... no one should've done that anywhere."
She wanted to hug Mal, she didn't dare. Instead she just stood there in the doorway and trembled... barely holding everything inside herself. "Mom would never do that... No one should ever have done that. You can sit here and have dinner like a basic human being... but if you're not dinner table people then- then we'll eat somewhere else. We can eat in here.. we can make a picnic in the living room or eat in the kitchen.. but... we're eating together, okay?"
Mal sighed as she heard Donna say that it wasn't right and that it shouldn't have happened anywhere. "A lot of things happen that shouldn't, Donna. That's how the world works." Did the girl seriously go her whole life without hearing about Gold's shady deals or assume that all kids had happy lives?
"So, what? You're gonna rewrite your entire schedules because my home life is crap?" Come on, Donna, that's wasn't something you could keep up long term. You'd come to resent Mal for 'making' you do things differently than what makes you comfortable. "Just... eat with your mom."
"uh yeah there is, I literally just set the table, like two minutes ago." Donna took a step back, her confusion giving way to an almost wounded concern. Was Mal angry with her? Oh... at her last words it started to click, this was because of the mural? Mom hired Mal for a mural.. Mal completed it and got paid... now she thought she was hired help forever? It didn't really make sense to Donna, but there was at least logic to follow.
"If you're under our roof, you're our guest... we feed guests here. Seriously even if the neighbors stop by for five minutes, Mom brings them a tray of bread, salt, and honey. If you don't wanna eat with us, I could bring your food up here? Or ask Mom..."
Mal sighed, looking away for a moment before looking back to Donna. "It's not about want, Donna." After another long sigh, she straightened up and set her sketchbook down on the bed. This kid had to know, right? Her mom knew her home life had sucked. Surely, Donna did, too. How is her apprehension to sit at the table any shock?
"Your mom is probably going to be pissed if I tell you something like this, but... the last time I dared sit at the dinner table at home, I was locked in the attic for a week." She cleared her throat. "So yeah, I'm very aware that this is a test or a trick or... something. I'm not 'dinner table' people."
