A series of works replicating the Zen circle or “enso” paintings of famous Zen masters from the 18th and 19th centuries. These enso paintings were made with a single stroke of the master’s brush, revealing the wholeness of his inner character. Here, a reproduction of the original paintings are screenprinted on decorative Japanese paper. The minimalist, masculine gesture of the Zen monk is re-contextualized against a background of domesticity, femininity, and materialism.
