sorry i've been so inactive! a lot has gone on over the holiday season for me but i'm on the mend and will hopefully be posting regularly again! x
remember that it's okay to not be productive sometimes, too. i know you have big dreams and you want to chase them with all your might. i do too. but you need to rest sometimes. you need to sit outside, feel the sunlight on your skin. play a video game, knit a scarf, play an instrument, whatever brings you joy. you can't hate yourself out of burnout.
what's in my bag: campus edition
i. an old gift pouch used to carry essentials, containing: wired earbuds for my laptop, hydrating hand sanitizer, hand cream (l'occitaine shea butter), face powder compact, lip balm (coffee scented!), extra pens, cologne mini (this one is aprรจs by ellis brooklyn. it's a wintery dream of pine and vanilla), loop noise-cancelling earplugs. (this is an absolute necessity for me as a neurodivergent person. i cannot recommend these highly enough, they have saved me from severe sensory overload so many times.)
ii. the book i'm reading (the name of the rose by umberto eco)
iii. my laptop
iv. my agenda (i'm currently using a lilac 2025 leuchtturm 1917)
v. a portable iphone battery pack
vi. a beat-up hilroy spiral notebook that i draft and plan assignments in
vii. keys and wallet, containing my fob pass for lounges/study spaces and student card
viii. byoma balancing face mist (the building i'm in today is dry)

You still have time. Time to change your wardrobe. Time to get divorced and married again. Time to change majors. Time to learn a trade from scratch. Time to pay off debts. Time to travel. Time to love and be loved. You still have your whole life ahead. Whether you're 19 or 66. You still have so much time. But you have to take it.
How to Dress Without Caring (and Look Like Yourself)
I didnโt stop caring to be cool. I stopped caring because I moved so often I never had time to catch up. every city had a new code, a new uniform, and I never had the instructions. so eventually, I gave up trying to follow them and realised I didnโt need them in the first place.
If youโre trying to let go of other peopleโs expectations, but still want to feel likeย youย when you get dressed, hereโs what actually helps:
How to Stop Caring (In a Healthy Way)
get used to being slightly misunderstood.ย people might not get your outfit, but thatโs fine, youโre not dressing for explanation.
stop dressing for the โideaโ of yourself.ย dress for how you feel that day, not for the version of you you think other people expect.
notice what you reach for on bad days.ย thatโs probably your real style. or at least a hint to what comforts you.
donโt justify your choices.ย Someone asks why youโre dressed like that? shrug. โI felt like it.โ thatโs enough.
realise the outfit you regret least is usually the one you felt most like yourself in.ย not the one you dressed up to impress.
accept that some days youโll look weird.ย thatโs part of it. style evolves through mistakes.
How to Find Your Style (When Youโve Stopped Performing)
start with colour.ย what colours do you feel good in? build around those. for me its cool toned pinks, light blue, cream, white, black, and deep red. I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about greys.
find a silhouette you love and wear it to death.ย long skirt girl. giant blazer guy. little shirt and big trousers combo. repeat it. no shame.
save outfit photos, not of others, of yourself.ย catch the ones where you look likeย you.
notice the textures you love touching.ย soft cotton, linen, leather, fleece, silk. let that guide your wardrobe.
make uniforms.ย youโre not boring for repeating things. youโre iconic. my uniform will always be the black skirt, tights, loafers, and some top combo. its my safe option.
shop like you have amnesia.ย ignore whatโs trendy. If you saw this in a thrift store and had never scrolled Pinterest, would you still want it?
let your clothes be a memory map.ย what you wore when you felt beautiful, or strong, or invisible in a good way. Keep those pieces close.
you donโt need to be a minimalist or a maximalist. you just need toย feel okayย walking out the door.
thatโs all style really is: the quiet confidence that you dressed for yourself. and no one else. <3

beginner makeup advice
if you're pale, the colours will always look darker on you than they do in the tube
east asian eyeshadow palettes tend to be a lot more forgiving+cost-effective than western brands are. i'm personally a big fan of the rom&nd ones.
cream eyeshadows are brilliant if you have dry skin OR no patience to blend
brands will try so, so hard to convince you that there's a noticeable difference between drugstore and high-end mascaras, and they'll be lying each time
putting a little eyeshadow under your lower lash line will soften the overall effect
skin prep > primer
don't tightline your eyes. i know it looks cool, but it's a really good way to get an eye infection
clean your eyelash curler every few weeks. product and bacteria can build up on the pad.
remember that celebrities and influencers are trying to sell you things. their partnerships can be with good products, but they are ultimately partnerships
ease up on the contour, ESPECIALLY if you're young. your face doesn't need to be snatched at 15.
give your skin a break sometimes! it needs to breathe too, even if it's just for a few hours.
you don't need both a foundation and a bb cream. i mix my foundation with embroylisse's lait-crรจme sensitive and it lasts all day.
menial advice i wish i could give to my younger self
save up and buy higher quality pieces of clothing. those fast fashion jeans will fall apart in two years.
you don't need that many lip glosses. they'll rot before you finish them all.
as annoying as it is to hear, physical activity does help with your mood.
you can't become 'that girl' through materialism.
your teachers/professors are more understanding and compassionate than you think they are.
keep on top of your email(s)
bring a packed lunch to campus.
do the 20-20-20 rule when writing essays
read a physical book every day
stop focusing on what "looks good" on you over what you love
a red lip is always the way to go
stop flat ironing your hair
you don't need to worry about your skin aging. put that anti aging serum down.
put sunscreen on your hands too
