Ah engineering.... the punniest degree of them all.

I think I have lost the ability to fully enjoy hearing men (particularly white men) talk about their accomplishments within their career in engineering, how much fun undergrad was, and how many opportunities there are in the industry.
It’s always men talking too. It’s so normal...
In terms of diversity, I actually think gender equality is the most pressing issue in engineering. Particularly in the UK, where only 8% of engineers are women.. that's 92% men! I work with a diverse team of many ethnicities, but women are still missing in a very obvious way. To make a difference, we need to get at the root of the problem- the fact that girls are taught from a very early age that they do not naturally belong in STEM. This is pervasive and subtle. We need women who have been successful to stand up and show us that we do belong, and that we can do it.
Last week I attended a Women’s Business Network event with my company, and the most inspiring thing for me was seeing successful senior women enjoying their work in engineering. Representation matters because it shows me that I can achieve in this field. So I agree - we need to find the women in engineering. They are there, and I believe the majority are only too happy to support younger women starting out in the industry.

How to Make an Attractive City
We do often talk and discuss what good design principles for cities should look like. But we often get lost in details and visions.
Great video, though as a lover of skyscrapers I have to disagree with some of it.
Wow, this video raises some really thoughtful points about what needs to be done to make cities better. One of the obstacles it talks about is lack of political will, and I can kind of see why, since the video says the free market is the wrong way to go, and government legislation and laws are the only way to get things done. I won’t say I disagree with it, but there are plenty of people that do, and in the end, it seems like this debate would likely run in a vicious cycle. Thus it seems like it would be pretty difficult to get a united political force behind a modern “City Beautiful” movement.
The Architect by Erik Johansson really confuses my mind.
