“ I was just going to continue calling you Ifrit, see how they reacted. “ Bahamut’s tone was flat but the joke was apparent regardless. He wasn’t dumb, and he knows that it would only invite trouble, but truly it would be worth it once or twice. Humans could accept any reason for some things, and if they were claiming to be brothers traveling from another land, the taboo of calling someone the name of one of the gods might be forgiven… 

And really, he wasn’t about to smite anyone for it.

“ Nekun Adarkim. I don’t much care if you are picking a different name from me, family or personal, but I’ll go with this one. “ It was one that had called to him on more than one occasion, though he wasn’t really sure of why. Perhaps a name from some previous disciple of his, or a name he’d used so long ago that he’d forgotten, but it held meaning to him.

“ Our parents were rather fond of other cultures, and as such a few of our siblings were given rather… interesting names. Does this explanation suffice? “

    “Perhaps with stone and vile. We have gained favor with some humans and lost with another. Depending on the village and with our luck, it wouldn’t go so well.”

The Infernian snorted lightly before giving a playful wink. Well it was an attempt at a joke. He’ll take it. “You’re funny, you should play the role of jester instead of curious scholar. Or will you take up the blade I wonder. You were the fool who taught me a long time ago.’’ The younger mused with a faint memory of the past ever lingering in his mind.

Nekun huh? Not a bad name. The redhead pondered for a moment before huffing with satisfaction once he himself came to a name he liked. “Rajin. Rajin Adarkim. It once meant ‘Granting Sun’ in my first worshippers languages. Call me sentimental, but they did have such beautiful ways of saying and naming things. Unlike these mores. Nonetheless, I think its fitting.’’ Ifrit chuckled softly. ‘’I will aspire to be a great champion, a warrior for good. Mayhap songs will be sung of me yet again~”

“I thought you’d never ask~” Manifesting in a spiral of flames, the god stretched and flashed a fang smile.

“this  time?”  he  releases  a  gentle  scoff.  but  despite  the  god’s  words,  he  simply  folds  his  arms  across  his  chest  &  chooses  to  scan  him  from  head  to  toe  —  so  strange,  so  unnatural,  perfect  for  a  deity.  if  he  means  no  harm,  which  is  cloud  to  say  he  isn’t  true  to  his  word?  “i’m  your…  summoner?”  confusion  crosses  his  features  but  he  continues  to  listen  intently.  “what  does  that  mean  exactly?  why  me  of  all  people?”  he  would  be  lying  if  he  said  he  wasn’t  anxious  in  the  slightest,  &  here  he  stood  struggling  with  keeping  his  stone  demeanor  up.

               “i don’t recall actually tellin’ ya my name.” he frowned, head canting to the side. “an’ i don’t actually know what or who ya really are, other than who ya claim to me.” a pause. “and demolishing a whole ass village. that too.”

“ There is one I rather enjoy, but I am not sure I could claim him as my own. He is rather fickle, and does not bow as one would expect. All the more fun in my opinion. “

Noctis watched with bated breath, half expecting the God to smite him where he stood, but no harm came to him. No, instead Ifrit was studying him as if trying to unravel his intentions. He would find nothing sinister, of course – his intentions were genuine. He had no desire to betray Ifrit now or elsewhere down the line.

He just wanted to be free of this cruel game he was expected to go along with, this role he was expected to play. It seemed Ifrit wanted that too, so perhaps they could be of use to one another. Noctis didn’t want to wage war against the Astrals, but the more he learned about himself and Ardyn, the more disgusted he became. He couldn’t view them as the benevolent beings they were supposed to be.

The more he learned, the more he saw Bahamut as the true villain of the piece.

He needed Noctis though. Noctis hadn’t come into the full extent of his power, but it was supposed to be enough to do something they couldn’t do – defeat Ardyn. That meant that he could be a threat to him too.

“That’s it?” He asked with a raised brow. He was actually surprised at how easy it had been. “ Titan and Leviathan tried to kill me before they granted me their power.”

They hadn’t wanted to kill him. It had been a test, apparently, to prove his worth. Another example of their cruelty, he supposed, making him prove himself worthy of a power and destiny that he didn’t even want.

“Not that I want you to try and kill me.”

    “That was a rule installed by Bahamut. To gain favor by the gods, one must defeat us in battle to be considered worthy. I have no intention to play any of his games. Including too mark your worth through combat. So yes. That was it.”

The ancient creature rolled his eyes. Mortals.

‘‘You have my blessing. I advice you cherish your luck better with gaining my favor at all. Such a boon from me is rare. “Ardyn was the last to be so. That was a very long time ago.”

“ Now now, hellhound. I never claimed to be boring. I just perhaps enjoy it… a bit too much since regaining freedom. Humans have so much energy to burn afterall. Why not give them a good outlet? “
