I'm back (kind of), and full of questions!
Hey, guys! How you doing? It’s been a long time. Like, a long time. I am aware. I haven’t been active for, like, ten months? A year? I lost count. And I am so sorry for it! I really am. You guys are so amazing, so supportive, and I let you down. So, first things first, I’d like to apologize for my absence.
So, now that we’ve cleared that, let’s get to some details. Let me tell you the story of my life… Just kidding. Let me tell you about the last couple months, though. Story time! As some of you may know, I’m a seventeen year old Brazilian teenage. Last year, I graduated from high school, with intentions of getting into Med School. I don’t know how it works in the USA and other countries, but here in Brazil, it’s very hard to go to university straight from high school. It’s usual that students spend one or two years preparing themselves for the admission test, called vestibular. Like, your school grades don’t really matter, what matters is whether or not you pass the vestibular. And the medical vestibulares are usually the hardest of them all. So, yup, I am right now in this process. That’s the reason why I haven’t been updating IDH, I am kind of lost among text books and classes. I hope you guys will understand, and I even suspect some of you might also identify with my situation, trying to get into a good university and all.
Anyways, there’s more! I know, it might be getting big, but have patience, dear readers. Now comes a plot twist. Even though I love the idea of studying Medicine and becoming a doctor, that’s not exactly my dream. Like, that’s not what I would sing about in that scene from Tangled (I’m sure you guys watched that movie, right?). You know, if you opened up my heart and looked into my soul, you would learn that I love cinema. I love watching films, I love discussing their stories, and I love the idea of becoming a filmmaker. Like, that’s the dream, you guys. The thing is, the movie industry here in Brazil is not the best. So, I’d have to go abroad. Like, let’s say, the United States. That’s where you guys come in: I’m asking for your help. Not financial help, relax. I just have some questions that you might be able to answer. Your educational system is quite confuse, honestly. Here are a few of them:
• I know that private universities like Harvard and Yale are expensive as hell, but what about federal and state universities? Do you have to pay for something or is it 100% free?
• What should I be looking for, undergraduate or graduate programs?
• To get into university, what do you need besides good grades? Are there admission tests like the Brazilian vestibular?
• Will I need an English certificate such as TOEFL?
Those are some of my doubts. I would really appreciate if some of you could help me with them! If you can answer any of those, please message IDH. My inbox is open and anxious for some messages!
Anyway, that is it. For now, at least. I haven’t yet figured it out if I would actually drop Med School to pursue a filmmaker career in another country, but it’s been on my mind lately. I love the idea of becoming a doctor, but I can’t quite ignore this voice inside my head, reminding me of this childhood dream… So, answers to these questions would really help me out. After all, it is a huge decision to make.
Once again, I’m so sorry for leaving the blog so dusty and inactive! Thanks for all the love and support. By the way, we’re almost hitting the 8.000 followers mark! YAY! Thanks so much!! Talk to you soon, shadowhunters!
