My Midnight in Salem Theory

The fact that Her has gone so far as to release the character art on Facebook indicates to me that the game is probably done. They did one each week, which shows they were trying to buy time in hopes of having a release date by the end of the reveals. After 5 weeks, no further news. The fact that they still don’t have a set release date indicates to me a problem finding a distributor/manufacturer. If this is the case, they may have to make MID download-only until they can find a company to handle the physical copies. I could be totally wrong, though. Thoughts?

So...now what do we do?

I hope HerInteractive takes us along for the journey during the upcoming year via the Amateur Sleuth blog. I’m getting tired of these “Game is on sale” and “Nancy Drew Moment” posts. I want meat, y’all. And we’ve been getting baby food.

So now what? Do we play 2 games a month until MID comes out or...?

Projected product info release dates for MID

Based on past Fall releases, I’m going to guess that MID will be released on Wednesday, October 21. I looked at the dates when different items were released for SEA, and based on the amount of days between those dates and SEA’s release date, I’ve constructed a timeline for MID below:

MID’s first peek/screenshot: Week of August 17.

MID’s cover art: Week of August 24.

MID’s soundtrack/product page: Week of August 24 or following week (August 31)

MID’s additional screenshots: Week of September 7.

MID’s character bios: Week of September 7.

Official trailer/Preorder date: Week of September 14.

Release of game: Week of October 19.

I might be completely off, as Her can always move the release date a week before or a week after October 21. They also may not release the soundtrack or character bios until much later--who knows. These are just my educated guesses.

I didn’t realize Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon was so short. It was cute though, like an easy miniature Syberia. Also after playing older games (some replays), I have the strong opinion that they’re making them dramatically harder now for us. I could have never beaten SAW or Thornton Hall back when I beat 1-10 or so. They’ve definitely increased the level of thinking required, which makes sense considering they want they want to keep their old customer base despite us all growing up.

I really want the newest two but I think it’ll be a year or so before they appear on Steam so I can get them on sale and there’s no way I’m paying $20 a piece. The only two unplayed I have left are Phantom and Warnings, neither of which I’m particularly psyched about. I’m considering just replaying Blackmoor Manor instead. I know Phantom has the chasing stuff I’m not into and Warnings is apparently just girls bickering and you doing chores???

Personally I enjoyed Phantom and Warnings. Phantom is basically a precursor to SPY because we get to see Nancy do some secret agent type stuff, and Warnings has that catty (no pun intended) all-girl boarding school atmosphere where someone has harmful intentions to steal the valedictory title. Both games have great scores as well :)

I still haven’t played RAN, nor have I finished CRE or ICE.

Also I just realized that I’ve had one job that revolved around hamburgers and a complex list of hamburger ingredients, and it was my job to get the orders correctly or be yelled at by someone standing behind me. And also always say “order up”. My current job is in a spooky old theater in which Harry Houdini once performed, and much of my day is spent repeatedly dialing phones and walking up creaky carpeted staircases. So, yeah, I really tend to look for that Nancy Drew flavor when I search for a job.
