BLACKENED CLAWS SCRAPE AGAINST THE PAVEMENT, sharp as hatred. Saliva pools in hismouth, dribbling between long, conical teeth, as baleful amber eyes watch the humanfrom a distance of fifteen metres.

The shadows, carvedfrom the moon, spill over his obsidian scales like water; to ahuman’s senses, there would be no sound but the wind in the treesand the faint echoes of life from the small cluster of homes nearby;to him, he hears the push of blood in their veins, calling out tohim, blood calling to vengeance.

Muscles tense andpoised to kill, his dewclaw twitches in anticipation, every motion reminscient of a weapon: efficient, calculated, and lethal.

❛ He is… imperfect. ❜ His creator’s voice cuts through his memory, drawing out rage like spilled blood. It coils in his stomach, burning all the way up his throat. I am no more or less than what you made me, he thinks savagely, but I will make myself anew out of every corpse.

With an explosion of adrenaline, he lunges forward, swift and silent strides devouring the distance between him and his target.
