App of the Day Bandcamper - Free on iTunes App Store
If you’re like me and are interested in finding undiscovered bands out there this might be the app you are looking for. It's kinda like a free Spotify but for underground bands. Basically any band that had a bandcamp page you can use this app to stream the songs and set your favorites to listen to again and again. It's easily one of my favorite apps I've found. So check it out!
Throwback Album of the Day
The album of the day is The Postal Service's 2003 album Give Up. I remember when I heard this album for the first time. Hearing Death Cab's Ben Gibbard combined with DNTEL's Jimmy Tamborello was like a match made in Heaven. The pop sensibilities they designed will stay in your head all week. Actually all year. Throw in Jenny Lewis' from Rilo Kiley's background vocals and you have perfection. If you've lived under a rock for the past 10 years I'd highly recommend it. Otherwise give it another listen with your kids and see how they react. You'll have them dancing for a long time.
Kid Threat: Low (Recommended album!)
I actually recommend this to kids. The dancey tracks are great, and the lyrics are non-threatening. See how they react when they first hear "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight". I guarantee they will enjoy it quite a bit.
I've been playing Sleeping Dogs as of late and I highly recommend it. Very much like Grand Theft Auto but you play as an undercover cop in Hong Kong. If you have PS3 you can get it free as part of their Playstation Plus program. It's rated M and for good reason. There's lots of sexuality, violence, and bad language. There's visible death and executions on screen. My advice? Play this one after they go to bed.
Yo Gabba Gabba!
So, I just want to say the one thing that truly inspired this entire blog was Yo Gabba Gabba. The reason being is they wind up having more underground bands perform on the show and that got me thinking that maybe the two worlds could collide. Kids and pretty great music. I know my daughter Amelia loves Yo Gabba Gabba. But since she's only 1 she can't quite sing along yet. My other daughter Marlee will listen to a lot of the music my wife and I listen to and really enjoy it. So if anyone is a good barometer for this it's them. I'm going to put kid warnings on anything music, movie, game related so you can see at a glance if it's appropriate for your kids. Don't take it as me policing or anything. The wonderful thing about being a parent is you decide you they should grow up. If you are okay with certain things I'm not then more power to you! You are always welcome to drop me a line at [email protected].

I forgot how much I love this track. It takes me back to a time when I was in High School and finding out who I was musically. Time for a journey.Â
Kid Threat: Moderate (Some references to violence, but seeing as how half the time you can't understand them, you may get away with the beauty of the melody alone)
Lyrics:
Anywhere Whole I cut you down; I cut you down For being anywhere Anywhere Cause you're so Cause you're so Cause you're sold Beat your head down I'll be your I'll be your Headstand down You've got your headstand down Don't fall down
Tabula Rasa
I'm starting this to talk about all the crazy adventures I get into as a dad. I love my kids a lot, and hopefully I can help other Dads out there realize you don't have to give up yourself, just use what you know to be a better teacher to your kids!
