Поспорили как-то мужчины о том, как выглядит самая красивая женщина.

Один сказал, что у самой красивой женщины должны быть жгучие глаза, другой – серые, а третий – с голубизной, четвёртый – карие, а пятый говорил, что зелёные.

Первый утверждал, что у женщины должны быть короткие волосы, другой – длинные, а остальные говорили, что им нравятся волосы, которые струятся до пят.

Первые восторгались рослой и статной женщиной, другие – маленькой, легкой и изящной.

И каждый из мужчин в споре приводил свои доводы и свои приметы, которые казались ему единственно верными.

Все попытки разубедить друг друга ни к чему не привели мужчин, и пошли они к умудренному жизнью старцу, и сказали:

– Рассуди нас, какая же женщина самая красивая?

Долго глядел старец на сверкающие за облаками вершины далеких гор и, светло улыбнувшись, ответил:

– Любимая!

One said the most beautiful woman should have piercing eyes, another said they should be gray, a third said they should have blue eyes, a fourth said they should be brown, and a fifth said they should be green.

The first insisted that a woman should have short hair, another said she should have long hair, and the rest said they liked hair that flowed down to her heels.

The first admired a tall and stately woman, the others a small, light, and graceful one. Each of the men in the argument presented his own arguments and his own signs, which seemed to him the only true ones.

All attempts to dissuade each other led the men to nothing, so they went to a wise old man and said:

“Judge for us, who is the most beautiful woman?”

The old man gazed for a long time at the peaks of the distant mountains sparkling behind the clouds and, smiling brightly, replied:

“Beloved!”
