Clouded Mind

“Wait for someone who says, “Holy crap, how did I get so lucky?” when you walk in the door, absolutely exhausted from work at 6pm after being married for 30 years. Wait for that, it’s more than worth it.”

I’ve spent most of my life and most of my friendships holding my breath and hoping that when people get close enough they won’t leave, and fearing that it’s a matter of time before they figure me out and go.

There were no sex classes. No friendship classes. No classes on how to navigate a bureaucracy, build an organization, raise money, create a database, buy a house, love a child, spot a scam, talk someone out of suicide, or figure out what was important to me. Not knowing how to do these things is what messes people up in life, not whether they know algebra or can analyze literature.

You never know how long your words will stay in someone’s mind even after you’ve forgotten you spoke to them.

I think part of the reason why we hold so tight is because we fear something so great won’t happen twice

Nobody is afraid of heights, they are afraid to fall.
 Nobody is afraid to say I love you, they are afraid of the answer.
