“Don’t be like that.” Sirius repeated, sighing as his mood sobered. He wasn’t going to lie - things had been feeling a little strained to him of late. “We both know the only person he loves more than me is Lily, and I can’t blame him there.” He chuckled softly. “Being named for someone, having to live up to their legacy is far from an enjoyable experience. I know that all too well.”

James sighed, not in defeat because he would never admit being wrong, not even to his best friend, but he decided to stop giving Sirius a hard time for -- well, for being happy. "Wrong. That kid looks at me like I am the greatest thing after Quidditch. He knows I'm his favourite uncle, he doesn't speak yet but he will tell you."

“But has that ever been proven?” He countered. “I like to think that we all would have been better off without the Bloody Baron. And don’t get me started on that Moaning Myrtle. Merlin, I swear she followed me around every day during fourth year.” He grimaced at the memory. Sirius shrugged, raising his hands up. He had never understood the seemingly inextricable ties between Lily and Snivellus. Even after everything that happened, he still had her under some kind of spell. “Not sure I believe you, love. But you get points for trying to convince me.” At her reply his lip jutted. “Lily,” he whined. “How long have we known each other now? Go on, tell me.” He shrugged. “S’alright. Like I said, slow going. Spent the morning listening to Bowie whilst I reorganised some of the sections. Now, for your other question. Did I miss you? Hmmm….” He teased, tapping his chin in mock thought. “I’m not sure…”

"I believe this calls for a test. You move out of the flat and go live with Potter for a few weeks and we'll see." Laughter bubbled from her lips, shaking her head in amusement. "Oh baby, that's because she had a crush on you. And she hated me. I remember she kicked me out of the bathroom once because she said I had no right to be there." And back then they were friends only, but she supposed the ghost saw something they didn't. "I'm not trying to convince you. But I guess we just had to agree to disagree." It didn't matter, not really, because Severus thought she was dead and he didn't like Felicity that much. Hell, some days even Lily herself didn't like Felicity at all. It was for the best if they avoided a fight and simply didn't talk about him. "For way too long, it seems. But I'm still here, so it means you must be doing something right. It's a surprise and you can't see it yet." She smiled and looked at him, as waiting for him to decide whether he had missed her or not, already knowing the real answer. "Not sure? When you sleep on the couch tonight, I want you to ask yourself again."

“Aw, come on mate, don’t be like that.” Sirius dropped into the seat next to James, slinging an arm around his shoulders. “Ugly? That’s no way to talk to your best mate now, is it? Truly, you have wounded me.”

"But who cares if you have wounded me, right? After everything we've gone through together, you decided to name your kid Harry instead of James. You know that kid is the closest I have to my own child. He loves me more than you."

“Ugh, don’t remind me.” His eyes rolled. “Sales may pick up, but that means that you won’t be blessed as much with my wonderful company.” Pulling away from the kiss, he ruffled her hair. “Ghostbusters? Yeah alright, sounds good to me. Perhaps we might pick up some tips, go give Hogwarts a little clean up.” He teased. “How was work today? Sniv-” He cleared his throat, correcting himself. “Snape didn’t give you too much of a hard time, did he?” Catching sight of the box on the counter, he tipped his head towards it. “What you got there?”

"That's a shame. But you know what people say, absence makes the heart grow fonder." She shook her head playfully when he ruffled her hair, trying to swat his hand away. "I don't know. Hogwarts wouldn't be the same with all those lost souls." She glared at him, almost as if daring him to continue. She knew he wasn’t fond of Severus, but that didn't change the fact the young man was, or at least once had been, her best friend. "Severus is doing what he thinks is best for the apothecary. It's not so bad, and it helps my healing training." Lily gave him a smirk and shrugged. "It's a surprise and no, you can't see it yet. How was your day? Did you miss me much?"
