Ballet, Frederick Wiseman, 1995.
I genuinely dont feel like im meant for modern life most of the time. I hate going on instagram i hate online shopping and i despise being forced to drive to work. It all just feels so ridiculous and unnecessary, i also hate that everything that’s modern is so ugly and tasteless, everything that looks nice while also being sturdy and long lasting happens to be vintage or is made the exact same way as stuff being made in the 1970s. Like i just dont get why in order for things to be “cool” or look nice they happen to be following trends from decades ago. I want to like modernity and “progress” but there are no aspects of it that appeal to me
scott walker i love you so much

you will see something that the us military has done and it will be the most horrifying thing in the world. something that should be the catalyst for a complete upheaval of the system, for riots in the streets, for national mourning periods and rewritten textbooks and decades of reparations. and the whole time it's just a normal day for them. they did something like it yesterday and they'll do it again tomorrow. the lucky ones even get to come home and spend the rest of their lives getting discounts at the movies and applause at baseball games. and if you try to express any this to the average person irl they will act like you shot their dog in front of them
“The verbal energy that Dante released when he positioned himself in a text and then returned to himself with its treasure always seemed to me indisputable, even when the lines, compared with the famous ones, seemed muddled, obscure, if not ugly. I have to say, in fact, that I found the latter more absorbing. I suspected that confusion and ugliness bore witness to a tendency, on his part, to raise the stakes in every way. In all three canticles I saw the effort of going beyond what he already knew how to imagine and how to do. Sometimes I thought: here not even the most scholarly annotations follow him. I racked my brains and said to myself: he’s left behind not only his sense of the beautiful but also ours; we are used to reading and writing too cautiously, we are cowards. Not him, he’s seeing if one can make poetry even with the negation of poetry.”
— Elena Ferrante, In the Margins
