Okay let me see if I can explain this:
Andrew, Ana and I were walking on this trail Saturday morning a little before 7am. Andrew was first, Ana was about 20 feet behind him and I was about the same distance behind her. We were walking TOWARDS where I’m taking this picture from.
The BEAR was also standing right where I’m taking this picture and encountered Andrew first. They froze.
Then the bear took a few running steps in Andrew’s direction before veering off trail (those are his footprints they’re looking at), and flinging himself down the side of this steep mountain to get away from us. You can see the track he left on the way down! 🐻 😂
I missed him. Ana saw him a little from behind. Andrew exchanged cell phone numbers with him.
Everything worked like it should have 🙏 Andrew said it looked like an adolescent black bear (though it was brown). There are lots of wild berries on the trail (I tried some raspberries!). That’s what the bear was after.
Wished you all had been there! ❤️
❤️
We almost didn’t get this because Colorado doesn’t permit zeros on their plates 🤷♂️ 🤦♂️ But as you can clearly see, this is an O. 😮💨
And just like…that, you’re different people.

Made it to state #47! 🙌 🇺🇸 I landed in the rain after midnight and I was back at the airport by lunchtime. I’m still counting it!
It was perfect! We’ll all be back soon for more.
Dad and I picked a trail at Cheyenne Mountain State Park and walked 4 miles.
You know that happy feeling you get when you realize someone you love is thinking about you? I do. 🎄 ❤️
Wishes do come true! Congratulations Spencer on your new truck, you deserve it!!😎🎓✨✨✨
Wow. Congratulations!! Can’t wait to see it.

This is the dorm quad today from the outside. It is made up of dozens of those beautiful donated buildings and provides a serene place for students to continue the legacy.
It made me proud to walk in their shadow and know that they understood their civic responsibilities.
Shortly after graduation the country broke out in Civil War. The wealthy were allowed to purchase exemptions with large donations. Ario Sr. made a large donation and funded the 147th Pennsylvania Rifles…but he would not exempt his family. Ario Jr. and Calvin served, risked and sacrificed for their country in war.
These people did great thing during epic times. But they had love and honor for their families and their community. I’ve been a witness to their love of family and hospitality for even the most remote cousins and I’m honored to be associated with such a distinguished legacy of generosity.
As you come to the bottom of the second row of donated dorms, on the corner of Sage and 15th you’ll find the Pardee Dorms, donated by Calvin.
Calvin understood and appreciated the responsibility he bore in helping others. The Pardee’s generosity was not a rare event.
Calvin’s father Ario, Sr. had already donated a building to Lafayette College, a place he’d never visited or studied. With his donation, equivalent to hundreds of thousands of dollars today, "the largest and most complete scientific college building in the United States." was built. Lafayette began offering engineering degrees for the very first time in Pardee Hall and the college’s school of engineering still thrives today.

A gentleman who attended Rensselaer a few years before Calvin wanted to celebrate his 50th graduation anniversary and decided to build the college a model dorm building, and to challenge other successful grads (some had gone on to fame, for example, building the Brooklyn Bridge) to make similar donations of their own.
One by one the wealthy celebrated their homecomings by honoring the college with a new dorm building.
These are horse chestnut trees near the dorms where I walked…
Ario Pardee suddenly found himself an incredibly wealthy man, an “industrial tycoon” according to Wikipedia, with a growing empire to run. Ario’s oldest sons, Ario Jr. and Calvin were sent to college to learn civil engineering and mining. They both came to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, just up the road from George Pardee’s farm.
