We almost didn’t get this because Colorado doesn’t permit zeros on their plates 🤷♂️ 🤦♂️ But as you can clearly see, this is an O. 😮💨

And just like…that, you’re different people.
Made it to state #47! 🙌 🇺🇸 I landed in the rain after midnight and I was back at the airport by lunchtime. I’m still counting it!
It was perfect! We’ll all be back soon for more.
Dad and I picked a trail at Cheyenne Mountain State Park and walked 4 miles.

It made me proud to walk in their shadow and know that they understood their civic responsibilities.
Shortly after graduation the country broke out in Civil War. The wealthy were allowed to purchase exemptions with large donations. Ario Sr. made a large donation and funded the 147th Pennsylvania Rifles…but he would not exempt his family. Ario Jr. and Calvin served, risked and sacrificed for their country in war.
These people did great thing during epic times. But they had love and honor for their families and their community. I’ve been a witness to their love of family and hospitality for even the most remote cousins and I’m honored to be associated with such a distinguished legacy of generosity.
As you come to the bottom of the second row of donated dorms, on the corner of Sage and 15th you’ll find the Pardee Dorms, donated by Calvin.
Calvin understood and appreciated the responsibility he bore in helping others. The Pardee’s generosity was not a rare event.
Calvin’s father Ario, Sr. had already donated a building to Lafayette College, a place he’d never visited or studied. With his donation, equivalent to hundreds of thousands of dollars today, "the largest and most complete scientific college building in the United States." was built. Lafayette began offering engineering degrees for the very first time in Pardee Hall and the college’s school of engineering still thrives today.
A gentleman who attended Rensselaer a few years before Calvin wanted to celebrate his 50th graduation anniversary and decided to build the college a model dorm building, and to challenge other successful grads (some had gone on to fame, for example, building the Brooklyn Bridge) to make similar donations of their own.
One by one the wealthy celebrated their homecomings by honoring the college with a new dorm building.
These are horse chestnut trees near the dorms where I walked…
Ario Pardee suddenly found himself an incredibly wealthy man, an “industrial tycoon” according to Wikipedia, with a growing empire to run. Ario’s oldest sons, Ario Jr. and Calvin were sent to college to learn civil engineering and mining. They both came to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, just up the road from George Pardee’s farm.
Right across from Albany is the town of Rensselaer, NY. The reason for my visit there can be traced back almost 400 years to George Pardee, the first in our family’s line to arrive in 1648.
George lived on a family farm in Rensselaer and raised a few generations. Seven generations later one of his descendants, Ariovistus Pardee took a railroad job dealing with the transportation of coal.
He eventually discovered the coal deposits near the town he helped found, Hazleton, PA.

I find myself, for the first time in a long time, visiting a city I’ve never seen before. As new cities go this was kind of a bust. Albany, NY is the state capitol (and you all know how I like state capitols) but the rainy weather kept me away from exploring…in Albany at least.
We met some people today. All of these were long, country conversations. It was a wonderful day!
Micah is the bank VP. I already knew him but Jeanie met him. Oh, he also just got elected to the city council.
Debbie works at the Carhartt store at the town square.
Patricia was the high school nurse. Now she works at a hospital.
Alexis is the waitress at the cafe and Nisreen owns it.
Chris is the attorney who did our closing and will do some future stuff for us.
Rick Jenkins is a neighbor I met last time but this time we also met his wife Teresa who used to be a Spanish teacher. They moved here in the 70s and all their siblings and parents followed.
Vanessa, another neighbor.
Ronald Howard the VP of a different bank. He is married to Kathy Howard the assistant county clerk who introduced us to Ronald so he can find us contractors. Kathy works for Kevin Montgomery the county clerk WHO IS THE YOUNGEST SON OF DARBY, THE MAN WHO SOLD US THE PROPERTY!! It was actually where Kevin’s grandparents homesteaded and where Darby grew up. We heard some great stories. Oh, and that last name Montgomery???? John Michael Montgomery? Montgomery/Gentry? He grew up behind our farm! We noticed Montgomery/Gentry will be playing at the local 400 seat theater in the town square.
OMG we’re exhausted!!! 😩 😂
