Had the usual family party over the last weekend, as the folks tend to take any excuse to celebrate with friends. I did not learn from 2 years ago as I accepted my only drink of this year from my sister yet again, (mild alcohol allergy), and like new years two years ago, I could not rise from my prone position with my partner for at least 4 hours. And now I continue to be itchy from that reaction even halfway through this week.
Other than that, my friends and I went out to a night market like event to pass out some fliers we had of the Visage Garden thing we're doing the upcoming weekend. Very overstimulating as that market is quite busy. Always has been. And I'd.... forgotten my ID so I was barred from certain places I wanted to get mocktails at.
I've also started a new DIY now that I've crocheted enough cotton netting to do this one. Diamond shape nets around these pants that I thrifted maybe 2-3 years ago? I've actually made some decent progress on it so far and I hope to get it done before this weekend so I can wear it. But if not, that is no issue.
I also made the choker in the photos above from these malformed bluish black pearls that I ordered in. I wanted to alternate pearls and these jet beads that I also ordered, but I found the holes in the jet beads were not big enough. Ironic because usually pearl holes are not big enough for my needle to pass through. But these pearls were specifically big hole pearls. So my needle easily passed through, but the pearl holes were a bit too big. The knots that were supposed to keep them in place? Did not really do much. But alas.
Found out about Feeding Fingers from a bat conservation compilation. There was a song, the world starves for lonely girls- that I thought sounded good in theory but was so weirdly compressed sounding on the compilation that I had to check if it was like that on the album. My thought: "Wow, by all accounts I really should like this song because compositionally it sounds cool, but currently- it sounds objectively kinda shitarse. Are the vocals clipping...? Is that clipping I hear or is there a different word for that- hm".
The album was normal and I did end up really liking the whole thing. And side note, but I'd be remiss to not warn/mention that the vocalist does sound like Robert Smith, but I found the band doesn't fall into the trap of just emulating the Cure. Good variety of sounds- didn't get bored 3 songs in and they sound distinct. Post punk + goth rock for that one album I listened to- Detach Me From My Head (2011). Favorite songs are:
I Am a Brutal Little Boy - The pacing is fun, the vocals have a catchy rythmn to them.
Vestigial Sleep - Ok, now how I said they don't remind me of the Cure? This one is an exception. Dirge like, reminds me of Faith-era Cure. Still sounds like Feeding Fingers and still a good song.
One Year - This probably wouldn't count as a song to most, but I have a severe weakness towards mid album instrumental interludes. Especially. Especially! If there's piano involved. Outros and Intros too. Once again- Especially if there's piano.
This World Starves For Lonely Girls - First song I listened to that was in that compilation. I really like the guitar melody and how it sounded against the vocals. In general, dynamic and I like that. The bassline and guitar that comes into prominence after the verses- just all the instrumentals in between the vocals were interesting to listen to, imo. Chef's kiss.
