For one full week I challenged myself to make five comic book pages every day, resulting in the following 35 page cute/dumb adventure. Hope you enjoy! -David
Hi there, my name is Julia Stretch and I'm the Education Coordinator for QueerProv, a Vancouver-based queer improv troupe. I run our weekly workshop series. I love your art and I'd like to use some of it as cover images for the facebook event page for our workshops. Is that okay with you? Is there a specific way you'd like to be credited?
Thanks for reaching out! Just link back to the blog and/or say something like “Improv Artvice by David Kantrowitz.”
Billy Merritt on improv auditions:
My one piece of advice, do everything in your power to let your scene partner have a good audition. If you walk out of the audition blaming your group or your partner for a sloppy scene, it's your fault. As auditioners, we see what's happening in a scene, we see where it goes wrong, and we see when someone is judging. There are no mistakes, only gifts. No matter what is thrown at you, you can make it work. You must develop that part of your ego. You must take pride in making others look good. If you do that, you will excel. One of my favorite things to say to people before a big show, or audition is "Don't Fuck It Up". This is not to get in their head, or to intimidate, it's a reminder that in the grand scheme of things,[Life,Love,Happiness] what you are about to do is not that important. It puts things into perspective and, hopefully, puts them at ease. I do my best work when the pressure is removed. I think more clearly, and say what I want to say. Instead of what I think they want me to say.
Your mammal brain is a genius — you need its simple instincts to be a good actor. But it is also scared of everything. When it tells you to fight back, you have to be a zen master and just wait for that wave of fear to pass.

From Alex Berg:
I heard this quote from Paul Vallaincourt in my 101 class at iO West way back in the summer of 2004, and it really stuck with me:
"A pipe gives a wise man time to think and a fool something to stick in his mouth." - C.S. Lewis
The point is that there’s ways to play besides verbally. There’s nothing wrong with playing verbally, but if you feel like that’s your only option, you’re going to wind up with a lot of panic fire in those moments where you’re not sure what to do. Slow down, engage your environment with some object work, and either buy yourself time to think or just shut yourself up for a bit.
Inspired by Adam McKay's interview from Poking a Dead Frog: Conversations with Today's Top Comedy Writers, excerpt via Splitsider.
“Don’t try to sneak in through the window. Just come boldly onto stage, like come right through the door with your choice. Kill the judge in your head and just take action." - Mick Napier
