Why? It all goes back to Whitney, which is surprising since Eren never liked him—moreso because of him being a bully who relentlessly tormented them, and others as well, rather than of who he could be as a person. Eren started out pretty weak in the game, but that never stopped them from fighting back against those who picked on them—and Whitney was no exception. They managed to lower his dominance to the point of triggering his dismissal event in the winter or early spring, within the first year after leaving the youth ward.

Eren was in shock at first, but did decide to save him at some point… however, by the time they untied their arms, it was too late. For what it’s worth, they did manage to reach Whitney’s arm… but could only rip off his sleeve before watching him being pulled away by the very people to whom he tried selling them.

The next day (or within the next few days), Eren brought the sleeve to the tailor, only to be told there was nothing they could do to fix it—so they recommended buying “another” jacket at the store instead. That was where Eren tried on the outfit they last saw Whitney in: a black punk leather jacket and a pair of cargo pants... which they actually liked seeing on themself! And since they were at the store anyway, they subsequently started experimenting with fashion for the first time. Their sense of style (still) isn’t the best, but they’re slowly learning what styles and colors go well (or not) together based on the reactions people give them.

Even now, at 19, it remains one of their favorite outfits of all time—their main go-to for appearing masculine in colder weather.

As for the torn sleeve itself: it made Eren very conflicted, at first. They didn’t know what to do with it for the longest time, and maybe they still don’t. They haven’t exactly told anyone the specifics of what happened that night, nor have they shown anyone this item... what would be the point? They’ve tried getting rid of it a few times, but could never bring themself to walk very far away from wherever they threw it. As if they couldn’t stand the thought of losing it... like the way they lost Whitney. I don’t ship them, or anything; there are no secret feelings within Eren that would affect their dislike of him should they surface. No special reason for them to suddenly start caring about him specifically.

But they did realize, that fateful night, that Whitney is a person just like they are. Just as young... and just as powerless in the face of such danger that befell him. Just as underserving of being taken away, or of being harmed in whichever way he’d likely be, no matter how terribly he had treated them.

If Eren let go of the sleeve, what would remind them of the decision they’ve made from then on; to go out there and help others, no matter what they may think of them, instead of only worrying about themself—so something like this can never happen again. So no one else would have to go through the same things either of them did.

...but that’s not what prompted them to go on the late-night vigilante hunts that earned them their current epithet; they needed more time, to become strong enough to properly protect themself first and foremost.

And they do, eventually.

Naturally gravitates to big spoon, due to their height and protectiveness, but would reluctantly agree to be the little if you insist. They’d feel out of place in the latter position, at first, before eventually easing into it (and perhaps even finding comfort in it, depending on how they view you)

Much more willing to lend clothes than to borrow them, even the literal shirt off their back if necessary. If an item in your closet catches their eye, the most they’d probably do is casually ask about it before going to buy it at the store, instead of risking you going without... but they can be quite adventurous, so they might have no other choice but to borrow something, sometimes. This totally does not tie into a general reticence of asking for help stemming from a belief that they are (or should be) strong enough to do things by themself, as they always do

Uses few pet names, nothing too special or particularly original (ex. babe/baby + variations, maybe girl/boy/man depending on gender, a nickname...)

Doesn’t enjoy being touched all that much (in general), so they usually keep their own hands to themselves out of respect (or restrained to brief, gentle touches like a pat on the shoulder or a hover on the back—which they’d prefer to receive, along with stuff like chaste pecks on the cheek). Not much of an exhibitionist, either; some form of privacy is ideal for bolder touches and sex, even if complete seclusion isn’t possible (they don’t want strangers butting in and sharing opinions, since they don’t care what people could possibly have to think of them). May consider being bolder more openly if you really insist, but getting comfortable with that can take time

Very protective, violently so—can be overbearing to a comedic degree, at times, always in a well-intentioned way; they know how dangerous this town is, they can’t take any chances. They’re not particularly paranoid, though, or controlling at all; in regular day-to-day life, you’ve got free reign to go wherever and do whatever—and they expect that same courtesy in return. However, they may consider backing off (or, at least, not being so impulsive about coming to your rescue) only if you’ve proven you can handle yourself on a consistent basis (though they’ll keep sticking around, even from a distance, just in case)

LIBIDO:

Usually extremely low, almost entirely absent, as Eren doesn’t find much appeal in people they don’t know well, or aren’t close to. It can rise to an almost absurd degree, however, if and when they catch feelings (whether that means genuine love, Stockholm syndrome, or something else)

Able to control themself (and genuinely feel fine) most of the time, but can become practically insatiable when propositioned, or simply getting aroused, by someone they have feelings for. Even at high arousal, they’re very unlikely to initiate sex, as the idea of forcing themself on you terrifies them

Great stamina too, so they can last a while—perhaps even for multiple rounds—aiming to satisfy you even if they themself don’t cum or get stimulated all that much (their own physical sensations are merely a distraction from their primary objective, which is to please you as much as possible)

The main (if not the only) reason the bar isn’t completely full is because they’re able to steel themself and back away when you tell them to, or when they figure you’ve had enough. Otherwise, they’d rather they can keep going until either of you drops

AWKWARDNESS:

I’m not really sure how awkward they’d be as a partner, tbh, especially as they’ve gotten used to taking the initiative to approach people when need be. Any awkwardness would mainly stem from total inexperience (which they’d be upfront about, within circumstances that’d allow for open and honest communication). Or perhaps it’d simply depend on what is happening

For instance, they can be really uneasy during sex, so they’ll practically study your body language (and/or even verbally check in) at every step, just to make sure they’re not doing anything you might be a teeny tiny bit uncomfortable with. They’ll only ease up if you’ve proven, time and time again, that you remain capable of sticking to your boundaries even (especially) when you’re head over heels... or, at least, of fighting them off if truly necessary (hypothetically speaking, as they’d never want to cross your boundaries)

They’ll try not to beat themself up for any awkwardness or signs of inexperience they may display, especially since venturing into all sorts of uncharted waters is all they’ve been doing so far into adulthood, anyway

They would very much care to do things right by you as a partner, ideally by their first attempt. Would give their best shot, despite not always knowing what they’re doing

JEALOUSY:

I’m really not sure how jealous they’d be, at least in the typical (possessive) sense

They’re not the type to irrationally become suspicious of someone they regard well; if anything, they’re more likely to assume the worst out of the other person they’d see you with, and act accordingly

As for you, they probably won’t think much of you being close to others, unless you make it undeniably obvious you’re being inappropriate on purpose. Even then, they’re likely to understand any rational justification you could make about it... as long as you’re honest

I could moreso see them potentially becoming insecure about their own standing in your relationship (“do you still want me?” “you’re with them ‘cause you don’t want me, right?” “oh god, you don’t want me...”). How they’d go about it, if such feelings start to overwhelm them, would depend on the circumstances

As for themself: once they start dating someone, cheating doesn’t even cross their mind, as they have eyes for no other... or so they like to believe. In reality, they’re still capable of catching feelings, but it takes circumstances just as exceptional as the ones that got them in this relationship in the first place

However, this realization could make them feel very guilty. Even if they’d gather the courage to discuss the matter, they might not think to actually suggest any changes in the relationship themself—but they may consider non-monogamy if you bring it up yourself

...That is, if the two of you are even monogamous in the first place. I could see Eren considering any type of relationship, if you’re upfront about your feelings and intentions, or at least honest when the topic would come up

STATS/SKILLS:

High willpower, especially when it comes to physical pain

High skulduggery, but struggles to perform meekness when the situation calls for it

Started off innocent, but learned to read people once they decided to try protecting others instead of only worrying about themself (and they’ve learned much about the supernatural side of things while rising in the temple ranks)

Good at tending (mainly when it comes to patching wounds, but also knows their way around a garden)

Decent housekeeping skills (better at heavy lifting and clearing big messes than polishing little details)

Decent cook (their meals are quite nutritious and filling, but end up relatively bland—or tasting surprisingly good, but nothing spectacular... at least, compared to Bailey, which isn't a very high bar all things considered)

Not too bad at dancing, but not the best either (what they lack in technique, they compensate with passion and stamina)

Grades? Hmm... Not entirely sure, though I will say they tend to struggle learning notions that depend on circumstances, or that change unpredictably over time. Once they understand, they’re good

More on Gender:

Men (usually) have penises, while women (usually) have vaginas... but as someone with both, what was Eren “supposed” to be?

As the only one of their kind or so they’ve seen so far, they’ve been given no guidelines nor a set gender to conform to—though they’ve once been told to “pick one,” which they took a little too literally; now they “change genders” as often as they change clothes

As a result, their closet is filled with both masculine and feminine clothing of various styles. They dressed exclusively for function at first, then began experimenting with gender presentation over time, keeping track of the way people perceive them when they wear a certain item over another... (their rather androgynous appearance certainly helps with that)

Now, they’ve come to expect (as in, anticipate or assume) being referred to according to the way they look. If you call them a girl, for example, they’ll believe they currently look like one (and may go change if that wasn't their intended goal at that particular moment)... but they won’t actually care if they get “misgendered,” even if they catch onto the fact you’re doing it on purpose

If they gave any of this any purposeful thought, they’d likely compare their experience to that of a crossdresser

They feel no personal connection or sense of belonging to any gender (in their eyes, they have no gender)—though they don’t care to take time away from their preoccupations to reflect on that and consider labelling themself, nor revisit any other beliefs they may have subconsciously formed around gender in a broader sense even as their awareness increases

More on Sexuality:

Like with gender, Eren doesn’t consciously think of themself as demi—they’ve never given any thought to their sexuality either, mainly because they don’t really feel attraction to people they’re not close to

They’re rather chaste, only willing to engage with partners or people they develop feelings for—which is to say: very few

They do develop feelings for certain NNPCs eventually, and it surprises them every time it happens—they never know how to react to the realization, especially as they start thinking and behaving very differently than before

Whether these feelings refer to genuine love, Stockholm syndrome, or something unhealthier... It’s like a switch flips: they suddenly become very attached to the other person, and surprisingly receptive (and sometimes even enthusiastic) to advances

Gender is not a deciding factor for potential partners at all, they never had a preference or any hopes/expectations of actually getting any partners in the first place, but here we are (this is dol, after all—is staying single even possible?)

One way to reduce Jordan’s corruption is take it upon yourself, similarly to purging a penitent in the confessional. This is best for keeping lower amounts of lust at bay, but must be done relatively often. To wipe more corruption at a time, you can “deflower” them in the temple prayer room, satiating them while preserving their purity (basically the rite of defilement, except...)

The Bishop is aware of it all, and fully supports this endeavor, as they recognize the toll lust takes on people. Especially someone like Jordan, whom they recommend keeping innocent.

Speaking of innocence, Jordan’s awareness of sex will increase over time as well, mostly by their own efforts. After their encounter with the aforementioned elkspawn, they realized just how weak they had felt as they were, and promised themself to become stronger for the sake of their beloved town. You can either help them acquire a different outlook on the world, or listen to the Bishop and keep that from happening at all.

Actions taken on the job influence Jordan’s perception of you and the temple’s grace—some choices affect them in the same way, while others offer contradicting possibilities. At first, the rest of the temple will ignore you, or even sneer at you, but may slowly warm up to you depending on the decisions you’ll make. No matter how well you may have been regarded as an angelic monk/nun, grace will reset to 0 after coming back to serve Jordan—as a fallen angel, of all things.

As for Jordan themself, they will be grateful for your efforts no matter how they may feel about you, but higher respect might influence the way they act toward or in regard to you. With enough awareness, perhaps they’ll catch onto the less-than-savory aspects of the temple, and even stand up for you should the occasion arise—if they respect you enough to risk disturbing the peace.

At high corruption, perhaps they’ll no longer be able to keep their gaze from wandering over you a little longer than necessary—or their hands from wandering to less-than-appropriate places in less-than-appropriate ways, getting bolder and bolder as their willpower wanes. The more innocent you keep them, the less likely they’d be able to realize what they’re doing on their own, and therefore less likely to stop unless you set firm boundaries every single time.

Allowing their awareness to rise offers many possibilities, regardless of respect—not only to you, but to themself and the rest of the temple—which can be both a blessing and a curse. More awareness may prompt Jordan to actually wander outside the temple, with or without you to help them navigate this dangerous town—depending on where they go, they might start learning more about themself and begin taking care of their own needs, requiring less and less help in that department over time. On the other hand, it’ll risk complicating things in other areas of life, as they grow emboldened to make more and more unexpected decisions regarding the temple—especially if their shifting perspective clashes against the Bishop’s, who will ultimately blame you for any changes in their behavior.

If you’re not careful, Jordan might witness things they can’t unsee or unhear—and they can never be 100% innocent again, no matter how much you try to make them forget.
