marie claire korea brunch, the four's northwest tower. with @impkeen.
of course, duri had to be sure to attend the brunch event of the whole seoul fashion week. mainly because secret garden told him that it would be a really good opportunity, so duri had to be sure to listen to his company, after all. but, he kind of looked forward to brunch, regardless, simply because of the fact that it's a lot of talking, and well, the fact that there's brunch. he's a foodie after all, even though maybe breakfast foods weren't at the top of his list of favorites; he was sure it was still going to be good.
nonetheless, after all that talking, going around the brunch event, and making sure not to get stuck in the middle where there were too many people; duri had made his way over to grab something to eat. he puts numerous random things on the plate, mainly sweets, depending on what looks good to him. before he's sure to get coffee, something that duri can use rather often. he was all set on his brunch, which seemed a lot less like brunch, but there were some brunch foods on his plate - so, that does count, right?
now, it was all about finding somewhere to sit, and this had always been his least favorite part when at events like this - this always felt like his very first day in secret garden, during lunch time; and he had no idea where exactly to go. though, he comes across an empty seat, with a familiar face; which definitely feels a lot better among the chaos. "hi doyeon!" he greets, his usual smile placed upon his lips. "do you mind if i sit here?" he asked.
to his credit, doyeon usually thrives in social situations. in fact, he'd yet to meet a social endeavor that he couldn't conquer through sheer determination and a probably-genetic inability to keep his mouth shut, but even he, an acknowledged interpersonal wizard, needed a break. he blames it mostly on a lack of sleep, this time his own fault, and nerves lowering his usual threshold for manufacturing camaraderie in strangers. he feels the slightest bit off his game with the added pressure of wanting to seem more professional despite no real incentive to do so; he'd always had a tendency to add challenge to his life where it wasn't really necessary. a quirk, certainly.
nonetheless, he indulges in his brief breather with help of caffeine and a hodgepodged plate of things that don't really go together, but sound good, anyway. he considers, for a moment, texting his manager to see how much longer he has to stay, but feels bad enough for even considering it to go through with asking. grow up, he lectures internally.
doyeon looks up with his phone and feels disproportionately relieved to see duri and not another editor, a grin splitting his face with the assurance that he wouldn't have to be quite as 'on' in the company of who was, to this day, one of the kindest people he'd met. "hey!" he greets, "go for it, i sort-of dove in after a group of people got up, so it's not really mine to hold onto away, anyway." he pockets his device, scooting forward in his seat to rest his elbows on the table, face resting in his hands. "have you had your fill of the brunchening yet, or are you just getting started?" he himself had only just gotten the opportunity to indulge in any actual eating instead of simply grazing and conversing, but all the parts that hadn't felt entirely out of his depth had been fun.
the best thing about events like seoul fashion week and being invited to them was the opportunity to network. doyeon didn't truly consider himself a hard-and-fast professional, terrible at both small talk and maintaining relationships that didn't border on codependency, but he's been making it a point to act his own age these days. and that means taking himself more seriously.
even so, he feels like he's playing dress-up, wrapped up in pretty clothes and pushed out into the ether, told to mingle and behave — which is easy enough; it's all made only slightly harder by how public it all feels. he subsists on mimosas and after his sixth full conversation with an important person, rounded off with an exchange of contact information, doyeon has half a mind to duck somewhere out of sight. surely there are enough pictures of him smiling and flouncing about to serve as proof of attendance, plenty of business cards burning a hole in his very expensive pockets.
he realizes when his head feels a little light that he's spent the better part of the brunch on his feet and very little of it actually eating and decides, very independently, to peruse one of the objective perks of being a celebrity: free stuff. it's like tunnel vision, the way his eyes set on one of the food brand stalls boasting little goodies, and perfectly cliche the way he walks directly into someone. it's not a dramatic collision by any means, but he's decent and sober enough to feel a little bad. "sorry about that," he apologizes through a sheepish laugh. "i'm just super passionate about -" he spares another glance at the food stall, "- chicken skewers."

[ text -> handsome knight ]: im almost done filming. when are you free? dinner?
joohwan slid his phone into his back pocket after sending a text to his current boyfriend. filming the past few days had been constant. the different types of light needed for each different scene made it last a long time, and was honestly super draining for him. he just wanted to settle down with a good movie and cuddle with his boyfriend.
just the thought of it made him almost jump into a skip. what should they have for dinner. chicken? no they had that yesterday. bulgogi and rice? maybe. he'd ultimately let doyeon choose. whatever put a smile upon his face, made him happy. thinking about it he pulled out his phone and sent another text.
[ text -> handsome knight ]: what about dinner in and a movie?
doyeon stares at his screen, a notification from "prince charming 💞" staring right back at him, biting his thumbnail through a smile. there's a giddy swell in his chest, a happiness he's come to associate with joohwan as a whole. he's a beautiful distraction, a slice of normalcy as he adjusts to fame, no matter how fleeting. it feels nice to like someone so much, to feel so wanted.
his heart leaps when another notification follows right after and then settles into something that feels a bit like anxiety. it just feels so...domestic. this is a good thing, objectively, his extremely considerate boyfriend wanting to spend so much time with him, and he feels good about it. he does, bar any convincing. he's just a worrier, is all.
glancing around at the other people in the room and trusting their leader to remind him of anything important, he picks up his phone, sliding it under the table to respond.
[->] soon!!!!!! just in a quick meeting for our fanmeeting coming up... agh, i'm so nervous ㅜㅜ [->] we're almost done though so come pick me up! :T [->] it's like you read my mind, that's just what i need~~ let's do pizza?
he's brought out of his bubble by a nudge to his shoulder and the sound of rustling as things wrap up, so he makes his escape quickly before he can be given anything else to do. tomorrow would be a different story, but that was something tomorrow-doyeon would have to deal with. he texts a quick let me know when you get here and i'll run outside ㅋㅋ on his way out.

it's pretty normal for some groups' members to have moments where they quarrel, it's even normal for members to not always agree on everything that goes on, though for these two it was like they were the real life 'tom and jerry' of true north. did they hate each other? no. did they fight at times? yes. but in the end the two would always make up and be there for each other when needed, or even when it wasn't.
doyeon was someone that jun absolutely loved and adored, even during the times when he would take his anger and frustrations out on the older male it was never on purpose.
dancing had never been doyeon's greatest strength. of course, his time as a member of true north had more or less forced him become a lot better than he was when they'd started out, and by now, he was pretty good as an idol dancer, but that took time. time is money – more than that, time is a precious commodity, and if doyeon hated anything at all, it was wasting time. today, his head feels like it's on backwards, stuffed full of entirely too much for him to focus altogether, but he's trying, it's just taking a little extra—
he sighs when he forgets another detail, shaking his arms out in the hopes of waking them up and getting them to cooperate. he knows this dance, usually nails it, but he's running on even less sleep than usual. he can feel the growing tension in the room, the frustration all pointed towards him and the minor fuck-ups he keeps making, and it prickles under his skin, irritates him in a way he can't truly justify. jun was often his favorite member to practice with, because the two were long past the point of mincing their words - if doyeon was off his a - game, jun was usually the first to set him straight, and the sentiment was reciprocated. they had a good thing going and a shared bluntness that made professional things a lot easier to navigate and power through, and for all their fussing, their reconciliation was just as sweet.
he's more mad at himself than he is the choreography, at jun, even, and he considers calling for a quick break to get his head together when jun throws the first stone. and suddenly all ration leaves him.
"lay off." doyeon says, voice hard. "i don't know what crawled up your ass and died, but i'm not in the mood for your bitching today." he could stop there but he doesn't, "you're not the only person in this group that has other things to do, you know. you spent the first half of the song looking like the beat offended you, and you don't see me throwing a tantrum." it's a little mean, but doyeon was never one to bite his tongue when he felt defensive.

doyeon and taerae tended to get along well. they had since they'd met. the two of them were like two peas in a pod. so taerae had been excited when doyeon had agreed to come to the gym with him. neither of them was really meant to bulk up too much. taerae assumed it was to keep to their youthful coming-of-age concept. taerae was luckier than doyeon in that his naturally wider build made it a bit easier to hide extra muscle than doyeon's slender figure. which naturally meant that taerae and doyeon didn't tend to work out together much.
so taerae had been excited when doyeon had accepted his invitation. because he liked the older male and they hadn't had the chance to hang out just one on one in a long time. when doyeon agreed to go eat with him taerae's entire face practically lit up with a grin.
"yeah, of course." taerae said bouncing on his toes in excitement. he was practically thrumming with energy still despite the hard routine that he put his body through. "what better time to get it than right anyway? a lot of places won't have it for much longer." taerae said. "anyway, lead the way, hyung."
"good answer! i was hoping you'd say that, i would've had to ask my dad to come over and make some, if i held out any more," doyeon grins, arms swinging as he marches ahead, turning to walk backwards to keep up their rapport. he lets out a pleased sigh, taking in the luxury of the area being less busy than usual. "so," he prompts, "what've you been up to lately? any hot juicy gossip i should keep my ears to the forums for?" it was simultaneously deceptively easy and incredibly hard to keep secrets in such close quarters, what with their lives overlapping in such distinct and significant ways while also being so very separate. when he was younger, he'd always thought the idols he watched on tv were exaggerating, but living it was understanding it, in more ways than one.
he doubted it, anyway. nothing particularly scandalous had plagued true north this far into their career, and he didn't anticipate that changing anytime soon, but it never hurt to ask as both a friend and one of the oldest. though, if he were being really honest, he was kind-of just nosy.
their destination wasn't far off, but doyeon had never really thrived in silence.
maybe eunchae should listen better, then she'd know what's actually expected of her. but she hasn't so the fine details of what exactly her schedules entail or why her manager has hauled her out to the kbs building are lost on her. oh well. all she does know is that pretty early on she's let lose, left to entertain herself for a while as her manager is busy arranging something... probably important? truth be told eunchae had lost interest and stopped listening to everything after just wait around for a bit, it will be an hour or so at the most.
of course, she grows tired of sitting pretty and still within the first five minutes, so she takes to roaming the building.
the moment eunchae hears her name as she rounds a corner, it's like a switch flips in her brain, less bored little brat and instead a smile too cheerful and broad for her face appearing in place, as if muscle memory. she only identifies the voice calling out to her after. "doyeon!" she exclaims, a bit too cheerfully, voice pitched a little too high as she bounces over to him. she should probably tone it down a little, but doyeon is right, it had been a while, and a part of eunchae feared that had been because he had little intent of seeing her, which was a saddening thought. she had worked so hard to get him to like her. perhaps she just has to try a little harder. "how have you been! what brings you here today! personal work? a true north thing? ohhhh is it a secret still? my lips are sealed, pinky promise!"
the shrillness of her response takes him aback, but he plays it off well, he thinks. it's easy enough to match her energy, contagious in spite of its intensity, a startled laugh coloring his words as he responds, "slow down! it's a meeting. i'd tell you what for, if i knew, but," doyeon waves his hands so as to brush away the thought; he'd get a brief later on the way back to the company building. his own lack of career autonomy tended to keep him in the dark about most things. "everything i do as doyeon kind-of turns into a true north thing, anyway. but, what about you? broadcast things?" he tilts to look behind eunchae for any signs of a frazzled manager or someone with too little time and too much to do, as the people who dipped in-and-out of this particular building tended to be. or, worse, any onlookers who'd take a man and a woman talking as anything other than what it was. he keeps his distance, but looks her over once the coast is clear.
"you look cute," he compliments, sincerely, risking a light sweep over her bangs, "i hope i'm not stealing you away from a camera crew or anything, i'd hate to get in the way of all the fun." the latter part of his statement is half-dipped in sarcasm. he tries not to be too bitter about these things. he likes them, usually. "if you're free, though, i could use a little company. at least until the boring part is over."
outside the gym.
taerae found that working out at night helped him a lot. it saved him from the aches and pains throughout the day and when he went home he was easily able to pass out. so more often than not if he had the chance he went to the gym late at night. there wasn't always a chance given that true north's schedules were so tight. but today was one of the days where taerae had been able to go to the gym and get his workout finished without too much fuss.
he'd brought a friend along with him as he liked to. so now that they were both finished taerae found himself a little reluctant to actually go home. in fact he was almost feeling energized after having completed his sets. he knew of course once he laid down that he'd be out like a light. but now that he was awake he wanted to stay out just a bit longer.
"do you want to go get some food with me?" taerae asked turning to his friend. "i'm not really ready to go back to the dorm just yet." he explained with a sheepish grin. "so let's do something a little fun while we're out."
doyeon wasn't usually much of a gym goer to begin with, blessed with a fast metabolism and strict instructions not to bulk up "too much" by their artist team, but he'd been wound tight for a few days, spine pulled taut with stress that had really, seemingly appeared overnight. it was the sort of stress that sleep couldn't quite iron out, so he'd been grateful, excited even, when he'd been bestowed with the honor of being taerae's gym buddy for the day.
for doyeon's part, his limbs felt limp and worn-out in a way that was kind-of invigorating, and the pair had always had a particular synergy akin to that of two bright, shining stars burning side-by-side, so it was easy enough to find himself replying with a "sure, why not?" instead of whining about a nap like he'd been planning to.
"i've been craving kalguksu so much these days—i think there's a place near here that i've been wanting to check out for a while, if you're down." he suggested, "we can even stop by one of those novelty cafes that keep popping up on the way back."

usually, when doyeon has meetings to attend, he brings along a few odds-and-ends to keep his hands busy while he waits for all of the people who actually have a say in his schedule to finish up. on this day in particular, however, he'd woken up that morning with the renewed vigor that always comes with an existential crisis, determined and insistent that he'd be present and contribute. that had only lasted about as long as it took for them to tell him to wait outside.
so, there he sat, idling in a way that made him feel desperate and unoccupied—a feeling that was increasingly unfamiliar as these meetings, no matter where they were, happened more and more often. all of this to say, he was bored, and in dire need of a distraction.
he's contemplating just saying fuck it, making a run for the elevator when a familiar face rounds the corner, "eunchae!" doyeon says with an enthusiasm he wouldn't otherwise possess in the presence of the girl-in-question. for a moment, he even regrets it, but it'd be rude to take it back now. "long time, no see, huh?"

DOYEON: "I think that there's a pressure to be a new, elevated version of myself every time we meet our fans after a break, and it's something I've stopped trying to do so consciously"
DOYEON's interview with weverse magazine [FULL INTERVIEW] ENG
𝐷𝑂𝑌𝐸𝑂𝑁 &: fans / fanservice
doyeon is the kind of idol to go live, even when he isn't scheduled to. he's known for impromptu, random lives at any hour of the day (or night) during which he does just-about anything. sometimes it's crocheting, sometimes he takes requests on his guitar, sometimes he's eating, hell, sometimes he's lying in bed. he understands the importance of fostering a relationship with his fanbase, no matter how para-social, and while he doesn't feed into the my-idol-is-my-boyfriend thing (not that they'd be entirely convinced, anyway), his dynamic with fans is often described as friend-like and familiar. every now and then, he'll do advice q&a's to ease their worries, and as a way to go the extra mile to pay them back for giving him the life he's always dreamed of. in some ways, by validating their delusions, he's soothing some para-social reliance of his own. who is doyeon if not for the fans? who is doyeon if not someone who needs to be loved?
Doyeon (도연) is a model, entertainer and member of Secret Garden's 5-member boy group True North, who debuted in March of 2019.
hi~! i’m 𝑒𝑣𝑒 (s/h) 21+, i’m a little late to posting an intro, because if timezones are going to do anything, it’s whoop my ass. most of what you’ll want to know can be found on his pages, but below the cut are some good old-fashioned bullet points about incidental superstar, commercial model, pretty boy, and true north’s “4D” lead vocal, 𝑐𝘩𝑒𝑜𝑛 𝑑𝑜𝑦𝑒𝑜𝑛. i don’t use d-scord much, but if you really, really want/prefer to, i can absolutely give it to you; i’m generally 🆗 with using tumblr to get the job done, though. like this to let me know you’d like to plot! either way, i look forward to writing with all of you! :-)
personality
doyeon makes friends pretty easily; he doesn't have any pretenses about the sorts of people he wants to hang out with, and the only real requisite is that they're honest. however, he does admittedly tend to be drawn particularly to people with a certain quirk or oddness, or even misery, about them.
as a friend, he's loyal and unafraid to call people on their bullshit, which is why he appreciates reciprocity in honesty. he enjoys a bit of back and forth banter, platonic flirting, etc. he's a playful chap; it's how he shows affection. skinship is case-by-case, but never off the table. he's down for most things and is pretty much a must-call in a heist situation.
his love language is time spent, so he's likely the sort of friend to be happy doing as little as accompanying his friend on an errand run or sitting next to them while they both do their own thing. he's an extrovert, (or an ambivert, at least) and that alone probably justifies it in his head. some time is better than no time, especially when you look at how precious of a resource free time is in this line of work. he's a carer, he cares. don't mention it.
on the other hand, he likely makes enemies just as easily. his candidness is as charming as it is potentially grating. he's not shy about his opinions and it's not impossible that he's rubbed people the wrong way in doing so, and equally possible that he's joked around with someone too "roughly" and ruined their opinion of him by being an asshole. he's moody and unpredictable, so he definitely antagonizes people on his worst days, or even just when he's bored.
he's vaguely polyamorous in the sense that it's entirely plausible that he could earnestly, deeply be in love with multiple people, but he probably lacks the actual emotional maturity to enter a polyamorous relationship without getting jealous / it ending in disaster; he’s very stingy about the people he loves.
that being said, his genuinely romantic (that being relationships that go beyond the physical) endeavors probably happen few and far between. he's a hopeless romantic, but his whole thing is that he loves the idea of being in love, even loves dating, but he wants to make sure he's with someone that's worth the emotional energy or the inherent risk of ruining everything.
he'll absolutely flirt, though.
facts
his older sister is a backpacker who's traveling the world, but she’s also pursuing a law degree, so he's a little annoyed about her going the extra mile to be a woman of the world and free and well-traveled, too, while he rarely has agency over what country he’s in at any given time span; but he also still thinks the sun shines out of her ass after spending his whole life following her around like a puppy.
his mom is a pastry chef, his dad is a chef and the co-owner of a cafe somewhere in seoul, and they’re both textbook perfectionists, so his whole way of rebelling against that is by being slightly obscure and following his whims. which backfired a little bit, because look who's an idol!
contrary to what you might believe based on him being the way he is, doyeon thinks kpop is at its best when it's unapologetically happy, and weird, and all that other fluffy stuff, so he's a legitimate fan of groups that do cute surreal concepts.
he crochets! close friends of doyeon have absolutely received various crocheted items as gifts at random! he especially enjoys making hats and scarves.
he has a stuffed animal he's been sleeping with since birth that he's torn up literal hotel rooms to find. like, it's that serious.
he's a big handyman in general; if you need someone to help you build furniture or fix a leaky faucet, or anything, really: he's your man. he's great at putting things together.
he is entirely too cute for a man his age, but he's simply. like that. by design. sorry, bro’s a cutie patootie.
talent-wise, i'd say he's very well-rounded and capable of picking up just about any skill. his baseline is generally above average because of how long he’s aspired to be in this line of work, so when he applies himself, he's really exceptional. the problem is that he rarely does. he’s like a gifted kid who moved up into a curriculum that required him to actually study instead of coasting by.
he's very by-the-books in terms of being an idol and is the first to be like "😣 guys, i dont know about this..." if something steers too close to a potential scandal, but still winds up in the mix half the time, anyway, so.
reigning light-weight champion of fan service.
he's bi. historically, his taste in women is truly milf-coded women and his taste in men is big idiots, but he's open to all kinds of people. he falls for men most often, but has been interested in women often enough that it can’t really be written off as incidental.
he's an optimist, but he is also constantly fighting for his life, so it might not even be working.
his favorite movie is scream (1996) and i feel like that says a lot about him somehow.
he is in a constant state of having to remind himself that someone asking about his hobbies doesn't warrant a soul tie
he's like a nesting animal, just picking up bits and bobs and trinkets because he thinks they look neat. he's buying postcards from every country he goes to, to make a collage someday.
he's kind-of a dick when he's in his feelings; vindictive and spiteful on the worst days (like, cause strife in your marriage vindictive-and-spiteful), but he also tries really hard to smooth things over after the fact, because consequences for his actions are scary.
generally speaking, he wants to diffuse any tension, awkward or otherwise, and keep everyone comfortable, if he can, because he really just has no idea how to resolve conflict as a third party, so he'll play jester if he has to.
sometimes you can just tell that he was spoiled as a child. even though he tries to be better and conscious of that sort of thing, he definitely has his moments.
his idea of flirting is probably just staring at you until you realize that he's in love with you. it's really obvious when he's into someone, but it's also entirely plausible that he's simply tripped and fallen into every relationship he's ever been in by pure luck and circumstance and good old-fashioned boyish charm.
he's the polar opposite of shy, so he's one of those people who's friends with people you wouldn't even expect him to be friends with. like, what do you mean you're friends with a 40-year-old street vendor in srilanka, doyeon? how did you even meet that man?
his aesthetic is very atemporal-but-vaguely-early-00s techie who just sort-of throws things on in the morning, and makes it work somehow; he prefers headset earphones over airpods, unless he's on a run or something.
he's got a decently projected voice when he's singing, but his speaking voice is like a third of the volume unless he's yelling.
100% “babygirlified” by his fanbase.
he acts shamelessly but he is actually really easily embarrassed. you can tell because his ears get super red, as much as he’d like to play it off, but he does well on variety shows, because of this willingness to kind of sacrifice his image for the sake of a good tv moment.
very flexible for no good reason.
he's got a master's in domesticity, somewhat of a clean freak.
you could probably drag this man to hell, if you made it sound fun enough.
