He nodded along with her words. Of course, everyone was different. He wouldnât be able to pinpoint her every hope and dream from one simple conversation. And god, she was so young. The thought kept popping into his head. She was in her first year, she was a baby, practically a newborn. He could see her going places, but she had such a long road in front of her.Â
âWhat, youâre more interested in the wholeeee⌠equality, fraternity thing? You want a leader who cares about you?â He pursed his lips, but nodded. âTheyâre few and far between, iâm afraid.âÂ
He felt a little bit lighter in his steps due to the conversation, and the passing of old familiar spots. The walk back to the Domus was as natural as breathing, still muscle memory. As they neared the building he slowed, taking it in with fond eyes. âSometimes people just donât get along, I guess. How would you want her to go about things, if you could pick?â He asked, gesturing her forward as he did.Â
When they reach the door, he leans against the clean white wall beside it, waiting for her to unlock her key and let him inside.Â
âCares about me in so many words.â Imogen shrugged her shoulders. âI donât need Emily to hold my hand and help me cross the street.â She laughed, the thought of Emily helping her with anything at all made her want to laugh even harder. There was nothing she found impressive about the queen. Sure, she was great at speaking like she knew all the answers in the universe, and her holier than thou mannerisms did nothing for Imogen.Â
âItâs about loyalty, you know. I look at the Gravemakers, and I talk to Beaux and I think, you know, theyâve all got each otherâs backs over there.â Imogen shrugged her shoulders, âIâm not longing to be a part of their club or anything like that. Itâs just, I would prefer Pax to have a little bit more loyalty. If I called Emily with a dead body, sheâd never help me bury it.âÂ
Imogen was quick to catch herself, she groomed herself into a higher individual, more proper. She wasnât the kind of girl to speak about murder. âWell, obviously, not that exactly, but if something like that were to happen. I find myself questioning if anyone would really have my back.âÂ
Imogen quickly unlocked the front door, turning her key and pushing it open. âWelcome back.âÂ
