Kara always looked forward to her time spent talking to Beaux. Beaux was one of the only people she felt comfortable around. From the moment she meant Beaux she knew that there was something special about their connection. It wasn’t just a mentor and a mentee, it was more than that. Kara looked up to her, but not in the same way she did others. It wasn’t jealously. It wasn’t wanting to be stronger, like she felt with Silva, or wanting to have more fun, like with Andrew. With Beaux she wanted a friend, someone to talk to, someone she could confide in. From their first meeting, Kara knew Beaux would be something special to her.
With Matias momentarily out of her life, it was weird not having someone to immediately go to for advice. If she ever had a crisis, Beaux would probably be the first person she went to. That is, if Matias wasn’t quick to answer his phone. They hadn’t known each other long, but Kara had a good feeling about Beaux. Kara wasn’t familiar with good feelings, so when she got one it always hit her like a ton of bricks, yelling, don’t screw this up. And she wouldn’t. Kara would do anything Beaux asked of her and more. Meeting for lunch between classes was easy and Kara found herself excited to see the elder Gravemaker. She hadn’t gotten to talk much with her at brunch, as she had been avoiding most people in general, so there was a lot she wanted to talk to her about. She wanted to thank her, mostly, for having her in the society. Kara was overcome with feelings for her fellow Gravemakers, and while Silva had been the one to tap her, she owed everything else to Beaux.
Kara sat down at a table in the back, waiting for Beaux to show up. She ordered the two of them drinks. Kara had always had an excellent memory and had easily remembered Beaux’s drink from the times they had previously seen each other. While she waited, Kara pulled out a book, slouching back in the booth as she read, waiting for her to arrive.
