I took some photos in Pác Pó where  is a small village in Cao Bằng province, Vietnam, 3 km from the Chinese border. Near this village is a cave, Hang Cốc Bó (today often called Hang Pác Bó) in which Ho Chi Minh lived for seven weeks, during February and March 1941, when he returned after 30 years of exile.

Biography

Abraham Harold Maslow was born April 1, 1908 in Brooklyn, New York.  He was the first of seven children born to his parents, who themselves were uneducated Jewish immigrants from Russia.  His parents, hoping for the best for their children in the new world, pushed him hard for academic success.  Not surprisingly, he became very lonely as a boy, and found his refuge in books.

To satisfy his parents, he first studied law at the City College of New York (CCNY).  After three semesters, he transferred to Cornell, and then back to CCNY.  He married Bertha Goodman, his first cousin, against his parents wishes.  Abe and Bertha went on to have two daughters.

He and Bertha moved to Wisconsin so that he could attend the University of Wisconsin.  Here, he became interested in psychology, and his school work began to improve dramatically. He spent time there working with Harry Harlow, who is famous for his experiments with baby rhesus monkeys and attachment behavior.

He received his BA in 1930, his MA in 1931, and his PhD in 1934, all in psychology, all from the University of Wisconsin.  A year after graduation, he returned to New York to work with E. L. Thorndike at Columbia, where Maslow became interested in research on human sexuality.

He began teaching full time at Brooklyn College.  During this period of his life, he came into contact with the many European intellectuals that were immigrating to the US, and Brooklyn in particular, at that time -- people like Adler, Fromm, Horney, as well as several Gestalt and Freudian psychologists.

Maslow served as the chair of the psychology department at Brandeis from 1951 to 1969.  While there he met Kurt Goldstein, who had originated the idea of self-actualization in his famous book, The Organism (1934).  It was also here that he began his crusade for a humanistic psychology -- something ultimately much more important to him than his own theorizing.

He spend his final years in semi-retirement in California, until, on June 8 1970, he died of a heart attack after years of ill health.

   Đã rất lâu rồi, từ khi mới chập chững sử dụng cái điện thoại di động. Khi ấy, đó là cái điện thoại Nokia cùi bắp mà người ta vẫn hay gọi nó bằng một cái tên rất hào nhoáng, điện thoại đập nước đá. Cũng đúng, nó vừa to, vừa thô nhưng lại rất ư là bền bỉ. Bền theo thời gian và độ bề khi va đập đấy nên mới gọi là đập nước đá chứ.Đó là cái điện thoại đầu tiên của một thằng sinh viên ngành kỹ thuật như mình. Mình trân trọng nó vì không phải đó là đồ mình làm có tiền mà mua lấy mà là một đồ vật kỷ niệm.

Cũng như đám bạn của mình, mình quyết lên đời điện thoại, thật ra thì cũng chẳng có gì ghê gớm. Chỉ là chuyển từ Nokia đình đám sang một thương hiệu mới mà thôi. Đó là Sony Ericsson dòng điện thoại cũng cùi bắp không kém cái Nokia đập nước đá. Vì mình chẳng phải là đứa nhà giàu, cũng chẳng có tiền để mua đồ đắt tiền. Năm ấy mình nhớ đấy là năm 2007 mình được anh mình cho lại cái Sony Ericsson T610. Niềm hãnh diện của mình lúc bấy giờ. Từ cái bước ngoặc ấy, mình bổng dưng yêu thích cái thương hiện Sony Ericsson mà bẩng quên đi biểu tượng của đất nước Phần Lan mà mình đã một thời gắn bó. Trong suốt thời gian là sinh viên, mình của vài lần đổi điện thoại, đừng hiểu nhầm nhé chỉ là từ cái cùi bắp này sang cái cùi bắp khác. Nhưng có một điểm chung là chỉ dùng hàng Sony như W800i, W200i hay K750i.

Cũng không khá hơn, sau khi ra trường mình tiếp tục chuổi ngày thay đổi điện thoại. Khi mình đi làm, mọi người ở nơi mình là các anh hay sử dụng các sản phẩm với thiết kế khỏe, bền và khá đẹp cũng như giá cả rất hợp ý. Với sự gợi ý của nhiều người và bằng quan sát mình quyết định nâng cấp các thế hệ cùi bắp thành điện thoại mà mọi người hay gọi là điện thoại thông minh. Ờ thì thông mình thiệt, người sử dụng có thể làm được rất nhiều điều từ chiếc Smartphone này. Cái mình chọn chính là HTC (High Tech Computer) một thương hiệu đình đám của Đài Loan với công nghệ Đức. Nghe có vẽ tuyệt hảo nhỉ. Ừ thì rất tuyệt, từ phím bấm tịt tịt giờ cảm ứng vèo vèo. Cảm giác rất ổn và vừa túi tiền của một kỹ sư nghèo như mình. Ấy thế mình cũng đã sử dụng được 2 chú dế của hãng HTC rồi đấy chứ. Với ngần ấy kinh nghiệm đấy thì ai nhờ tư vấn mua điện thoại thì mình cũng bảo là nên mua HTC đi, ngon lắm, rẻ lắm. Cũng có vài người mua theo gợi ý của mình. Cũng vui, nhưng đến một ngày chiếc HTC của mình bị hỏng. Hỏng thì quyết định mua cái mới thôi, chứ không mua lấy gì mà liên lạc với mọi người đây. Nhưng lần này không giống như những lần khác, mình đưa ra cả 4 sự lựa chọn đó là HTC, Samsung, LG và Nokia.

Viet Nam, after two decades of rapid economic growth, is today considered a development success story. Political and economic reforms (Doi Moi) launched in 1986 have transformed Viet Nam from one of the poorest nations in the world to a middle-income country within a quarter of a century.  This dramatic growth, with per capita income rising from below US$100 to an estimated at US$1,596 in 2012, has coincided with a dramatic reduction in poverty from 58 to 14 per cent between 1993 and 2008 and an estimated 11.8 per cent in 2011. While most development indicators have improved with a number of Millennium Development Goals attained ahead of the 2015 deadline, new challenges are emerging as Viet Nam enters a new phase of development.

  History 

With 88.5 million people from 54 different ethnic groups, Viet Nam is a diverse nation with a rich culture that has witnessed a century of dramatic change. Having emerged from periods of colonialism and decades of conflict, the reunification of Viet Nam in 1975 following a costly war with the United States and the Doi Moi economic revolution in the 1980s have transformed one of the world’s poorest nations into one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic and fastest growing economies, with aspirations to be a developed nation by 2020. The rise of this aspiring Asian tiger economy resulted from a shift from a centrally-planned to a ‘socialist market’ economy in 1986, with the resulting inflows of foreign direct investment, emergence of the private sector and a more globalized approach to business and trade as a result of Viet Nam’s World Trade Organization accession in 2007 driving its economic growth engine. This language for change translated into a breathtaking period of social change amid rising living standards and a reduction in poverty. These trends, along with new ones such as serious bouts of macroeconomic instability since 2008, have also presented the one-party communist state with significant policy challenges as it looks to consolidate and build for a new period of sustainable socio-economic development.

    Challenges

  Amid such rapid economic growth and dramatic changes in society, the resulting growing pains leave Viet Nam facing significant challenges today. If left unchecked, these mounting challenges and growing disparities will severely compromise the country’s sustainable development. While there has been an eye-catching drop in the rate of poverty, it is not reflected in ethnic minority and rural populations with more people vulnerable to falling back below the threshold. Further poverty reduction efforts will be hampered by continuing domestic macroeconomic instability and the need to employ a new economic growth model, along with the ongoing global economic crisis and associated reduction in donor funding. The recent stall in Human Development Index progress, Viet Nam climbed from 120th in 1995 to 108th in 2005 only to fall to 127th in 2012, comes as a broad spectrum of other issues such as climate change, environmental degradation, depletion of natural resources, corruption, growing disparities within society and rapid urbanization demand urgent policy responses. While Viet Nam has achieved most MDGs ahead of the 2015 deadline, more progress is needed to achieve MDG 6 on HIV/AIDS and MDG 7 on environmental sustainability. Unlocking the door to a more equitable and prosperous society will depend on success in regulating economic growth in environmentally sustainable ways, improving governance and distributing wealth and social services more evenly across society. The Socio-Economic Development Strategy 2011-2020 calls for ‘breakthroughs’ in structural reforms, environmental sustainability, social equity and macroeconomic stability to allow Viet Nam to lay the foundations for a modern, industrialized society by 2020.

Successes  

Viet Nam has won global recognition for its development and poverty reduction successes on the back of rapid economic growth during the past two decades. It has transformed from one of the world’s poorest nations to boasting one of the fastest growing economies, with lower middle-income status attained in 2010.   This growth, based on robust economic reforms and World Trade Organization-driven global integration, helped drive down poverty from 58 to 14 per cent between 1993 and 2008 and an estimated 11.8 per cent in 2011. Rising living standards have been matched by a steady improvement in a number of development indicators, with improved access to education and health, along with targeted social safety nets for a broader range of society. Viet Nam has been applauded for taking steps toward creating a more equitable society that is inclusive of the most vulnerable members of society, including the poor, ethnic minorities, women and the disabled. UNDP has helped Viet Nam enjoy success in a number of breakthrough areas during the past three decades, most recently with the achievement of a majority of MDGs ahead of the 2015 deadline, especially MDG 1 on poverty reduction. With an eye to the future, Viet Nam is now recalibrating its economic model to drive a new period of growth and sustainable development.

The 7 people who can restart the Internet

Call them this era's Magnificent Seven. Seven people around the world hold the keys to the Internet, uniquely charged to restart the global network should a terrorist attack, hacking event or other calamity put it out of commission.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers developed the plan and chose the seven keyholders, according to a report at NewScientist.com. In the event of a major attack, the keyholders would combine the code they hold to recover the master signing key, necessary to restore the Web servers that power much of the Internet.

While no one could actually turn off the entire Internet, the new Domain Name System Security Extensions being deployed throughout the system ensures that Web sites had official approval and are digitally signed to document their authenticity. In the event of a major attack, DNSSEC could break the connections to the signed sites to protect them, according to a report in Metro in the United Kingdom.

The keyholders would be summoned to a base in the United States to oversee a reboot of the system, using their keys to enable it.

ICANN has chosen not to keep the keyholders' identies secret. They are:

  Whether you’ve been to a live presentation, seen one on TV or just heard about them, Steve Jobs’ presentation skills are legendary. Yet the tricks he used don’t just make sense; they’re essential if you’re want to make a complex piece of technology (or a service) sexy, desirable and irresistible - like he did.  

Here are top 10 tips you can use even if you don’t have sexy Apple technology, an Apple-sized budget or Apple’s stunning on and off stage wizardry.

1. Tell a story

Steve Jobs told stories, usually about how Apple technology would change the world. Like all good stories, his had a beginning, middle and end. More to the point, they had heroes and villains and lots of drama. Do you remember when he pulled the MacBook Air our of an envelope at Macworld?  

2. Start with the narrative

Before you work up a slide or video presentation, work out how best to tell your story. Jobs spent a lot of time thinking, brainstorming, sketching and ‘white boarding’ the story outline. He spent years in the movie business, remember?

 Once you’re sure of the best way to tell the story, you can start thinking about the supporting visuals.

 3. Add variety for spice

Jobs used stunning visuals. He knew the story he wanted to tell, and used slides and props to support the story, not drive it. He didn’t give his audience time to get bored or distracted either. He mixed it up with video clips, demonstrations and other speakers. He added drama.

4. Use catchy headlines

‘iPod. One thousand songs in your pocket.’ Few of us have products like those Jobs held up to his audience, but we can still craft great headlines: ‘The 4 Words That Will Get Your Email Opened.’ ‘The Three Key Elements of Irresistible Email Subject Lines.’ The last two are from

 5. Create an antagonist

Every good story has heroes and villains. For Jobs at first it was IBM then it was Microsoft. For you, it might be a persistent problem or influence that people in your market face, or an obstacle that has held back industry progress.

 When Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone, his message was simple: it would get rid of all the irritating problems people had with their mobile phones.

6. Make features tangible

For every statement you make, put yourself in the shoes of your audience and ask: Why should they care? If all you do is talk about speeds, feeds and specs they won’t. You need to relate your features back to pains they feel.

 So, what was so great about Apple’s new Time Capsule? ‘All your irreplaceable photos, videos and documents are automatically protected and easy to retrieve if they’re ever lost.’ Ever lost a precious photo? You know the pain.

 7. Use the rule of 3

A story has 3 structural elements: a beginning, a middle, and an end, and the middle is best made up of 3 main points. You may have 10 key points to make about your product, but don’t be tempted. Most people can only cope with 3 points at once, 4 at a stretch.

 If you give them too many points, chances are they’ll tune out and won’t remember any. If you think of every application of marketing and selling, it’s always the same: rule of 3. It works.

 8. Be passionate, sell dreams

Jobs did what he did with a messianic zeal. As head of Apple, he could have just talked about changing the world, but he actually did. He once said that his goal was not to die the richest man in the cemetery, but to go to bed at night thinking that he and his team had done something wonderful.

 You can use similar ingredients in your presentations: passion, emotion and enthusiasm, to connect with your audience’s hearts, not just their eyes and ears.

 9. Make numbers speak

A lot of presenters, especially of technologies, use lots of numbers and statistics. Problem is, they fade into blur. If you want to use numbers, they have to be memorable. That means using them in a context that makes them tangible for the audience.

 For instance, you could talk about 10 terabytes of storage—or say it’s the capacity to hold the entire printed collection of the US Library of Congress. Which of these brings the scale of the number to life?

 10. Use simple language

The rules that apply to great writing apply even more to presentations; you can’t speak with the same formality as you write, and you don’t want to be editing live on stage.

 Eliminate clutter, use simple words and short sentences, use short Anglo-Saxon words (not convoluted Latin ones), and use words that create images. The audience sees and remembers far more than it just hears.

Of course, Steve jobs also mastered the other presentation skills of eye contact, body language, gestures, vocal variety, pauses and a lot more.

 They’re the tools of the trade, and they make a good speech better, but won’t make a great speech on their own. Conversely, if you have good content, refine it to great content, and bring it to life with outstanding presentation skills, you’ll be more than impactful and unforgettable, you’ll be rare.

How can I talk about motivation and not mention Michael Jordan? Jordan suffered his first set-back in his sophomore year when he was left out of the varsity basketball team. Reason? He was only 5’9” at that time. His taller classmate Leroy Smith had won the last spot on the team.

He made up his mind that he would never have to face a similar situation ever again and started practicing every day after that, making it a point to take out time for his practice daily without fail. He soon shot up to 6’3”, made the team the next year and never had to look back after that.

Only thing, I thought that Their believability did not put on the bough, their believing was put on themselves. For example, English is my second language.
