People like to hold children to a higher standard than adults, both in real life and in fiction. If you look at what is expected of children (being quiet, sitting still, being respectful to people who aren’t respectful of them, crossing boundaries) we don’t expect those same things of adults. For example at dinner children are expected to sit, be quiet, don’t wriggle and eat everything on their plate. If they don’t they’re being “bad”. Adults on the other hand don’t have to sit still, they can talk and be loud and they don’t need to eat everything on their plate.

So with that if mind, if there was an adult with the same tendencies as Damian - and we see a lot of them in Jason - he would not be looked at in this way. We would be viewing him in the same way we view Jason. If Damian was the same age as Tim he would not be seen in the same way. It’s because he is a child that people hold him to a different standard.

We need to remember that Damian is a child and he is a child who grew up with trauma and being raised as a prince. He grew up learning how to kill, seeing people killed, participating in it and along with so much more potentially done to him. On the flip side, he’s the heir to the Demons Head. He was a Prince. He was spoilt and given what he wanted and probably not held to a lot of regular boundaries as a result.

So he’s very spoilt and murderous, and can be annoying. But it comes off as worse when put against how a child would normally be raised.

Does this make him a bad person or character? No.
