sokka but make it a young female

sokka: because i'm a good person, a beautiful ray of sunshine, and i'm polite and nice to everyone

katara: ...you're in love with him, aren't you?

he looked at the ring on his finger, the diamond shining brightly. fuck.

“firelord zuko?” a servant came up to him. “i heard the news. congratulations.”

shit. even the servants remember and he didnt. he ran his fingers through his hair; he liked it short. the way he had it when he was 17. “thank you,” he said trying not to let it slip that he didnt remember.

he couldnt tell sokka. he would be heartbroken if he knew. how the fuck did he get engaged without realizing it. and how did he let sokka do it first??

he decided to make his way back to his room, where sokka would be. damn it. this wasnt good. “hey,” sokka smiled, laying in bed. “where’d you go?” he tilted his head and zuko joined him in bed.

“sorry, i went to go feed the turtleducks,” zuko smiled.

“oh, okay. we should tell our friends,” sokka said excitedly, pulling out his phone.

zuko felt his heart break a little. how was he going to tell him?

it wasnt that he didnt want to get married, he just didnt want to not remember his own engagement.

sokka texted his friends letting him know of the plan. it was obvious zuko was already falling for it. he felt bad, but it was funny.

“i love you,” sokka kissed him, zuko smiling back.

“i love you too.”

after a few weeks of excited chatter and talk of wedding plans, zuko decided to do something. he couldnt tell sokka, but there was a way he could remember his engagement.

“did i ever get you the betrothal necklace?” zuko smiled at sokka.

“w-what?” sokka said in disbelief, his eyes widening.

katara and aang’s eyes also widened, having been let in on the joke.

“yeah, i carved it for you a while back,” zuko said, pulling out a mediocrely carved water tribe betrothal necklace, holding it out to his boyfriend.

“a-are you serious?” sokka said breathlessly.

“yeah?” zuko said, confused. “i wanted to bring your culture into this too.”

not one of the three apart of the conversation could believe what they were hearing. he was serious.

“zuko, i never proposed,” sokka said, laughing. “it was all a joke, i slipped the ring on when you were sleeping.”

“oh,” zuko said, the pieces finally coming together. he didnt want to marry him. “you— i was really worried i didnt remember!” zuko yelled, trying to mask his disappointment.

aang and katara couldn’t help but laugh, but left upon zuko’s glare. “im sorry,” sokka laughed, cupping zukos cheek. he saw right through him. sokka kissed zuko passionately, letting him know that the idea of marriage wasnt a joke.

sokka released the kiss, taking the necklace out of zuko’s hand and tying it around his neck. “it’s perfect,” sokka said, kissing zuko again.

this time, zuko kissed back, his hands wrapping around his fiancée. his fiancée. god it felt good to say. zukos heart was going a million miles an hour, the relief of not missing his engagement, the fact that he proposed, and the overwhelming excitement that they were going to get married washed over him.
