As it was requested (and these are the three things that I personally have) I made a Venn Diagram showing the overlap between ADHD, Autism, and Anxiety!
Look itâs me in chart form
the overlap between anxiety and adhd is HUGE to say thereâs nothing in common is erasing a lot of symptoms people with anxiety have. to be fair i have anxiety and depression comorbidity and i experience:
sensory issues
auditory processing difficulties
finding it hard to make friends
being uncomfortable making eye contact
executive dysfuntion
poor memory
time blindness
noticing small details that others do
getting stressed and anxious when my routine deviates from the norm
my brain is always going 100 miles an hour, worrying about 28 different things and contemplating 6 different outcomes to the conversation im currently in. this leaves very little room for other things.
anxiety is not just physical symptoms as can be seen in the centre of the venn diagram.
Yes, Iâm very aware of this. The way that Venn Diagrams work are that you do not repeat phrases in every category they apply to. If they worked like that, then all of the symptoms in the centre would be repeated in every single section. ADHD and Anxiety just donât have anything in common that isnât also shared with Autism.
Some of the things you mentioned are in the center because they apply to all three. The others are debatable on whether or not they would be shared with Anxiety, as they only apply in certain people, in certain situations.
And some of them you may think are being experienced (eg. Auditory processing difficulties) because thatâs how it comes across, but biologically itâs not the same as in people with ADHD. These problems are down to a dysfunction of one of the stores in our Working Memory. In people with anxiety, yes they can have problems with memory, and yes they can have problems with mishearing things, but itâs down to the fact that anxiety distracts the mind from focussing on whatâs being said - and these problems only occur in high states of anxiety, not all the time.
