“I am no vampire, therefore it’s best you leave my sight. I’ve no reason to exchange names with you or explain anything.” Little did he know, his face was slowly changing expression. The frustration was starting to show in his creased brow, which was a mistake, considering who he was dealing with.

A loon calling others loony, then. He wasn’t brave, he was just a damn fool, pestering a powerful demon in such an obnoxious manner.

Instead of continuing a pointless conversation, he turned his back to the so called doctor and started walking away once more.

          Ah, there it is. At the sight of the frustration leaking through, Vanitas cracked a smirk, finding it at most a modicum of a victory.

“The best diet for a vampire? Chips and soda. Forget the blood stuff, we like desserts.”

“Did I not? Hm. Your staring at my healing wounds would have tipped you off that I am not a mortal. You clearly could have asked me outright, instead of your annoying cryptic ramblings.”

His facial expressions did not change, even with the shift of his tone. The demon spoke in a low growl, turning to leer at this so called ‘doctor’ over his shoulder.

“I’m in no need of a doctor, my wounds will heal on their own. Will you begone from me, then?”

          “Obviously, but you got a name to go along with that?” And if there’s more. Vanitas had dealt with plenty of otherworldly shit here, and met a kid that called himself an angel, so he thinks there’s plenty of loonies here too. Thanks for the vague answers, that’s what gets people like Vanitas on your ass.

Alright, now he went on to rambling. Talking complete nonsense. He made himself sound like some kind of hybrid, although Sesshomaru wasn’t getting any strange smells or auras from him. He felt his hair on the back of his neck bristle with irritation again, though.

“That’s enough of that. I’ll ask you again: what is it that you want from me? Your pussyfooting has no affect on me. Out with it.”

Oh well. In spite of his boiling blood, he still seemed calm and stoic on the surface. For now.

          “An explanation for one thing: with all this talk I did on vampires, you never did go into depth as to what you are. As a doctor, it’d be helpful.” If anyone’s surprised to know Vanitas is a doctor, well, it wouldn’t be the first time. There’s a reason why Dante nicknamed him Quack. In Vanitas’ mind, he could find a weak point. “The second: pure boredom, that’s it!” 

Wait, was that man still following him? What in God’s name….

Sesshomaru’s eyes closed and he almost growled. Better to not show him he was easily getting irritated. These mortals were impeccably idiotic.

“You say that as if you’re not human. Regardless, you’re bothersome. If you have nothing to ask of me, then you need to go in the opposite direction. I will not waste anymore words on you.”

          “Unfortunately, I am human,” he responds, bitterly, as if it’s a blight to be what he hated ( himself. that which he hated the most is himself ), “with sprinklings of other things, but mostly human.”

There was no offence taken whatsoever, but Sesshomaru found it amusing that this person saw fit to start trouble with him. He did nothing but bypass the stranger and the staring began. Perhaps even if he hadn’t said anything, the lad would have commented regardless.

Such audacity. The demon had a feeling that they were looking for a fight or something.

Or they were incredibly stupid. Either way, it was pitiful.

“You are blind if you haven’t figured it out yet, then,” came a short reply in spite of his calm tone. Yet again, he turned his back to someone else instead of engaging in their ridiculous attempts to provoke him, moving toward one of the lesser occupied benches.

          Yeah, he’s stupid.

          Stupid and blind, perhaps, if Vanitas agreed with the statements said his way, but would any of that bother him? Nah, there’s more fights to start picking things to start learning about; and so he follows.

Sesshomaru felt eyes on him. For some reason, there was a man ogling his slowly healing cuts and bruises, ones that normally would have been gone in seconds if not for this ‘nerfed’ business that the dragon girl preached to him about.

His eyes narrowed, casting him a look from over his shoulder.

“Do you have business with me?”

          “With you, personally? No, please don’t flatter yourself.”

          Always a joy to have around, returning a soulless smile to the other’s glare, but Vanitas had been staring, studying the man’s rapid healing. It’s none of his business -- until it’s a vampire that is, unable to control their blood lust due to their malady. The lack of red eyes and viciousness kept Vanitas from acting.

“One of these days you’re going to find some poor idiot who will put up with you and like you for you. Then you’ll be sorry.” Fuck you the most.

“It’s alright, Van-chan. They hate you just as much, if not more.” Fuck this guy.

“What’s that supposed to mean? I’m an arch angel, I’m already wearing big boy pants.” It never occurred to him that others might think that sentence might make him seem like a child.

“Overnight?” All the more reason to have Hyde come by with his things. With a heavy sigh, he nodded. “Fine.”

At least if he’s stuck in the hospital, it’s with someone he isn’t too likely to try to punch.

          “You’re still on that, huh.” Regarding the whole arch angel mention, since in all the years that’s passed, Vanitas will say there’s a long way to go until the other gets into the big boy pants.

How cheeky. Flashed through Sougo’s mind at the question Vanitas posed at him after accepting the task. It, of course, brought a small quirk of lips. He knew quite well about the other’s dislike towards him despite willingly doing jobs for him, even if it was begrudgingly.

“I’m not sure you’re up to it.” Sougo hummed after a few minutes, pulling away. “After all, you’re fine without it aren’t you?”

He wasn’t about to give it so freely without knowing the other was willing to put his own stake into it. Be wary of those loosely tied to them. He couldn’t just bring anyone deeper, even if they were one of the best, if not the best, at their field.

Loyalty was a must have. Nothing less.

“You don’t have to burden yourself with it, especially for someone with your skills.” Sougo smiled blithely, “Just continue doing what I asked of you for now.”

          “Oh, chief, concerned about me?” he questioned, knowing full damn well that the other wouldn’t give him another single glance. Vanitas’ only purpose currently is to serve, when he’s lost his usefulness or fucked up enough somewhere, he’d end up in a ditch somewhere mysteriously. As long as they can name him after death, Vanitas figured it’d be okay; he’s accepted that he’ll go out as cryptically as he lived. 

          To die for some twink chode is not how Vanitas would want to go, and hearing at Osaka attempting to sway him into that manner almost made him burst into laughter.

          There’s a sort of honor that should be involved too, but Osaka wouldn’t know that if he’s always needing someone else to fight his battles.

The hospitals they owned were probably one of the best. At least, they made sure the care and such were of top quality in their standards, and those are high standards. Fortunately, there was no troubles that were currently ongoing that need Sougo’s attention at the moment. He was here on a different reason.

“There’s been some problems from a recent excursion.” Sougo began after a moment of studying the other. “Nothing complicated that most couldn’t be taken care of immediately.” The medical area reserved for such incidents had most of the supplies needed. The only problem was that some things could only be done at the hospital.

He leaned in with a vague smile at the… request he was going to give him. “I do, however, want to ask if adjustments can be done for the few that need a checking here later today. You’ll be detailed of them, of course, and products used will be replaced for.” It wasn’t a big job, sadly. (He wanted to send Vanitas out on something fun for once.) Just some information changes to keep his precious group from going up on the radars of the law enforcement. 

“Can you do it?”

          You only ever come here when there’s a problem, Vanitas wanted to say but choked it back, biting on his tongue. A sharp reminder to keep his mask up while dealing with the mob boss; there’s absolutely no retorts and no showing any sign of displeasure. The last time Vanitas wanted to be smart, he’d been greeted by one of Osaka’s toys. Not a fun time. “Of course, chief.”

          Adjustments, huh? About the typical means that Osaka wants then, thankfully. A pain in the ass, though with all the practice Vanitas has had working under the mob, it’s become practically so easy to do he could accomplish it with his eyes closed. Don’t know what else that’d make him, other than complicit.

          “Thank you for taking us into your care, chief. We’ll be able to take care of that for you in no time.” Not as if he had a choice, but you know. Pays the bills, at least, while he gets to wipe records that could possibly link Osaka’s group with the crime scene.
